What are the purposes that drive us and guide us in our lives?  How can we make sure that developing a CLOSER RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD is one purpose we keep as the highest priority in our lives?

God wants to use us to build relationships with people so that we can share His love through our actions, words, and especially with His Word.

Prayer is essential for our life of faith.  Prayer isn't so much a public performance or a mechanical practice...PRAYER IS A RELATIONSHIP WITH OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN.

But how can we avoid the dangers of performing or mechanically just saying a bunch of words or only praying at meals and at bedtime?  How can we GROW in our RELATIONSHIP with God through prayer?  And how can we make progress without feeling guilty all the time?

There is a deceptive danger hidden in doing good deeds: that we would be doing them for the APPROVAL of others rather than for God's ATTENTION.

God doesn't want us to live our lives doing the bare minimum in our relationships.  God wants us to be like Him in our integrity and keeping our word.

But we struggle in relationships and in saying we will do something and then not follow through.

Jesus lays out God's heart for relationships with others in marriage, in dating, in work, and in life.  Jesus' way looks like faithfulness in relationships, sacrificing for one another, and being people like HIM who ALWAYS has and will KEEP HIS WORD.

It's SO EASY to be angry.  Every person in our world can struggle with sinful anger.

Living in our culture is a fight to remain pure in our thoughts and actions.  We need to live intentionally by relying on God's Spirit so that we can put to death unbiblical anger and lust to death.  But how can we put these sins to death consistently?

Joel and Ryan talk about Jesus' plan in the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5: 31-37 on how fighting the temptation to sin works out in our every day lives.

Jesus wants us to live lives free from sin and realize our need to rely on Him by being what He says is blessed in the Beatitudes.

We are all an influence on the World around us.  But what kind of influence are we?

Jesus says we are SALT and LIGHT if we are in His Kingdom through faith in Him.

In our discussion today, Dwight, Jason, and Ryan work through challenges we face to being Salt and Light:  Bitterness, Burn out, Lacking concern for others, and serving for others to NOTICE US rather than serving for God's Glory and other's good.

By going to Jesus' message, the Sermon on the Mount, and reminding ourselves that we're BLESSED BY BEING who we are in Christ and by being SALT and LIGHT we can influence people we know away from decay and show the way to Jesus.

There are many traps that can SNAG us in life.  Living trapped by GUILT, by BLAMING others, or trying to PAY BACK our bad decisions and actions through PERFORMANCE. 

Jesus gives us another way to live, and it's KINGDOM LIVING.  Jason, Joel, and Ryan talk through the BEATITUDES and what it really means to be living like someone who is in God's Kingdom through faith in Jesus.

Kingdom living is upside-down and backwards to the way this world works...but is BLESSED by God!  This is true of our relationships with God and with others as we live as people who are POOR IN SPIRIT, but are filled with faith and born again by the SPIRIT into HIS KINGDOM.

Of all the things we can do in our lives, FOCUSING ON JESUS is most important.

Jesus isn't about lots and lots of rules.  He's the ONE who loves us MOST and wants what is BEST for us all day every day.

But sometimes we struggle with that.  We can drift away from church.  We can become bitter because of bad experiences with churches or other Christians.  We think we know what's better.  We can be stubborn.

One way we can help one another to stay connected with JESUS is to learn how to and be ready to share our stories of how Jesus intersected our lives.  And actually, how He CONTINUES to give us GRACE and empower us through His SPIRIT to live our lives focused on Him.
