We all know Nursing is changing by the minute, but did you know Nursing is the first and only profession to offer professional board certification in coaching? My Guests today, Lyn McCright is among the pioneers in this emerging profession. Teresa Walding is a Director and Faculty for the program and Amy Hoeschler, is a student and my connection point to meeting the other two. Graduates of the 60-hour CE program can sit for National Board Certification through the American Holistic Nurses Certification Corporation. (AHNCC.org) (RN's must have a BSN or above and have 2 years of experience). The NIH has done a research survey of Certified Nurse Coaches (from all 5 Nurse Coach CE programs) stating that Nurse Practitioners may be ideally suited for the role.

I became aware of the Nexus Youth and Family Solutions. through Linda Barnhart, who worked at the same healthcare organization I did, but after I left. I've been wanting to address this topic and demonstrate the life-long damage that can be done to children and youth if trauma is NOT addressed and healed. Nexus CEO, Dr. Michelle K. Murray, was kind enough to to join us. When I was young, there was not much consideration of the traumas that young people experienced. I think the idea was that either the child would forget or their brain was so pliable that they would simply adjust and go on with their lives. Nothing could have been further than the truth. Parents feared the negative perception of the family, if the Dirty Laundry was aired. Even if a family was willing to take a child to a psychiatrist, there did not seem to be a lot that could be done. Perhaps talk therapy, later there were a few drugs available to elevate mood or have a calming effect. Join us!
