  • #1416, 2021 Hair Trends, Logan Shiels, Autumn Connolly, Onions

    Happy Monday!
We have a great show for you today! Although the Bills lost and Bernadette is sad, she's bringing us the energy today! Autumn Warren Connolly is here to talk about magnesium carbonate drinks and onions. Logan Shiels is here to discuss 2021 beauty trends! So, let's get started!
    Logan Shiels
Logan Shiels is an Oklahoma girl that has planted her roots in Dallas. She has immersed herself in all things beauty and fashion. Logan is currently a specialist stylist at ERA salon, and is also the co-founder of Uncommon Man alongside her husband Kyle Shiels. She loves getting active, not only in fitness but in her community as well through philanthropy. No matter the day, she’s ready to hustle.

Buzzcuts, fringes and 90s bangs were all popular. But as we near the start off the year, perhaps the most unexpected hairstyle has returned. The much-derided mullet: made infamous by Little Richard and David Bowie, is back but with a modern twist. The modern twist on the haircut is that it is being worn by women as well as men. This year we’ve seen the do on Miley Cyrus, who started the trend for celebrities, and now even Rhianna. Color pops are back, brought in by Billie Eilish. Shags and Bobs are back as well! A straight, blunt bob can be tricky to maintain because it requires constant trims, but if you're handy with a flat iron it's one cut that never goes out of style. Whatever floats your boat, it will fly in 2021.
    Autumn Warren Connolly
Autumn Connolly lives in the sky islands of Arizona with her three kiddos and animal babies. She is the creator of Anvil Traditional Healing, a company dedicated to restoring microbiome health through diet. Follow Autumn on Instagram @AnvilTraditionalHealing. Autumn is a self-taught vegan chef, a serial gardener and an avid believer and teacher of the powers of meditation.

Autumn and her kiddos have started making magnesium carbonate drinks, because most people are deficient in magnesium! Most people think magnesium drinks are only around to help bowel movements, but that's not the case at all! Magnesium can help with sleep, skin, and a myriad of other things. With a soda stream type machine, Autumn and her kids have been making flavored magnesium carbonate and CO2 cartridges! Next, we are talking about onions! Onions have lots of very anti-inflammatory qualities in the form of the flavonoid quercetin. Studies also suggest that onions may lower high blood pressure, reduce heart attack risk, and even help protect against cancer.
    Thank You!

  • #1415, Furry Friday, Marc Peralta, Moms Across America

    Happy Furry Friday!
We have a great show in store for you all on Furry Friday! We are proud to announce our partnership with Castor & Pollux! As the leader and maker of America’s #1 organic pet food, Castor & Pollux has set a new standard with the most comprehensive portfolio of purposeful pet food. We have Marc Peralta of Best Friends Animal Society and Zen Honeycutt from Moms Across America. So, let's get started!
    Marc Peralta
Marc Peralta is the Senior Director of National Mission Advancement for Best Friends Animal Society. Best Friends is a leading national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters. In addition to running lifesaving programs in partnership with nearly 3,000 animal welfare groups, Best Friends has regional centers across the country and operate the nation’s largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals. Prior to joining Best Friends, Marc served as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, as well as interim CEO for the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The mission of Best Friends Animal Society is to end the existence of homeless pets. They want to save them all by spaying and neutering and preventing more unnecessary animals onto the planet. Housing and economic problems that you see on the news neglect to include the statistics on the animals as well. If a family loses their home, they lose their animals as well. Fostering is the future! Fostering helped Best Friends Animal Society pull through last year. Best Friends is knows that if they truly want to save them all, they have to bring in all sections of the community, regardless of SES. A lot of shelters only focus on dogs. That is not a bad thing, but we as animal lovers need to bring more cat lovers into the mix!
Zen Honeycutt and Moms Across America
Zen Honeycutt is an activist, speaker, author, and the founder and director of Moms Across America, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to educate and empower mothers and others with actions and solutions to create healthy communities. While heading Moms Across America, Zen initiated the first testing for glyphosate in tap water, breast milk, and urine and spearheaded the non-profit’s successful petition to Costco to remove Roundup from their shelves. She is the author of “UNSTOPPABLE: Transforming Sickness and Struggle into Triumph, Empowerment And A Celebration of Community.”
    Moms Across America and 2021
No matter who is in office, we at Moms Across America are committed to taking actions to protect our food supply and health of our families. Our food supply is in jeopardy of becoming even more toxic than it has been over the past decade. Biden's pick for head of the USDA, Tom Vilsack is a not surprising, but is a terrible idea. Vilsack is a staunch supporter of GMOs and is responsible for supporting the contamination of the entire food supply with GMOs and toxins while he held this position during the Obama administration. It's time for a change. Bernadette and Zen agree that we have to get rid of lobbyists. We need to break free of the ownership that has taken over.

Bernadette won't eat anything that is genetically modified. Science is great, but both Zen and Bernadette agree that science doesn't belong in our food. Agrochemicals are also taking over alongside GMO. Visit Zen's blog for more information. If you want to start avoiding GMO's, stay away from corn, soybeans, and sugar. The majority of GMOs exist in those products.
    Thank You!

  • #1414, Lily Dulan, Dr. Lori Whatley

    Happy Thursday!
We have a great show for you all today! Lily Dulan, author of "Giving Grief Meaning: A Method for Transforming Deep Suffering into Healing and Positive Change" is here. Dr. Lori Whatley's is back to discuss talking about politics with your kids. So, let's get started!
    Lily Dulan
Lily Dulan is an MFT Psychotherapist with Masters in Psychology, Creative Writing, and Teaching. She is a certified Heart of Yoga Teacher and completed coursework at Agape International Spiritual Center under the tutelage of Michael Bernard Beckwith. Lily started a foundation in loving memory of her daughter Kara Meyer Dulan and partnered with both local and international organizations such as Unatti Foundation and Venice Arts. She teaches workshops at her home in Los Angeles, leads retreats, speaks throughout the community, and hosts a variety of educational and charitable events. She lives with her husband David and their two daughters, Sally and Marcelle.
    Giving Grief Meaning
After her first daughter, Kara Meyer Dulan, died at home from SIDS at two months old, Lily started a foundation in her child’s memory called The Kara Love Project. Through being gentle and kind with herself, the letters from Kara's name began to bring qualities of change all over the world. By attaching a special meaning to names, following breathing and meditative exercises, and daily affirmations, Lily is able to move through the grief process in profound and transformative ways. She can teach all of us to do the same, using the hard earned method she developed and calls The Name Work. By creating an inspired groupings of qualities, (IGQ’s)  attaching purpose and meaning to our chosen names, and following breathing and meditative exercises, daily affirmations, and more; Lily is able to move through the grief process in profound and transformative ways.

Whether a deceased loved one’s name or your own, The Name Work method ascribes qualities to individual letters in a name. Through introspection and self-reflection, the reader is able to create an Inspired Grouping of Qualities. The qualities we find through doing  The Name Work can help us move through grief and suffering of all kinds. Once mastered it is a tangible and personal self healing method for whatever obstacles come up in day-to-day life. A unique, new wellness tool for healing and self-discovery,
    Dr. Lori Whatley
Dr. Lori Whatley is a clinical psychologist and relational therapist who specializes in the effects of excessive digital device usage. Dr. Whatley has over 25 years of clinical experience and has specialized in digital device usage for the past 10 years. Her latest book “Connected & Engaged: How to Manage Digital Distractions and Reconnect with the World Around You” takes a look at the toll excessive digital device usage has on our lives—and what we can do about it.

Negative news stories can affect your children more than you think. Discussing politics is painful at any age, but it is painful to try and imagine stress on children, too. Dr. Lori says we must learn to discuss politics with civility. We have to find a way to be civil without tearing our families apart. Nothing good can come from trying to argue politics with a child. Your child has a right to develop their own belief system, but it is best to try and never argue with them. Dr. Whatley grew up in a home with parents with differing political views, but she never saw them bicker. That is the goal for us.
    Thank You!

  • #1413, Dr. Kirk Erickson, Tina Bernet Allen

    Happy Wednesday!
We have a great show today! Tina Bernet Allen is here to discuss how to break out of your workout rut! Dr. Kirk Erikson is here to discuss exercise and brain health. So, let's get started!
    Tina Bernet Allen
Tina Bernet has a Bachelor’s of Kinesiology, she is a certified strength and conditioning specialist, she is certified in biomechanics, and she is part of the Aerobics & Fitness Association of America. She has been in the fitness industry for over 30 years, teaching cardiovascular classes at several of Dallas’ top studios and health clubs, as well as instructing and developing resistance training programs for individuals and groups in the gym and in the home. She has also been named the “Top Female Personal Trainer in DFW” by the Personal Trainers Hall of Fame.

Fitness ruts are common, but due to a global pandemic, fitness ruts have been increasing. Because of quarantining, people have been gaining weight and that can also lead to ruts. You just need a jump start to get out of your rut. You can also hit a plateau, where you stop seeing change and people get into ruts. We are all going to fail sometimes. First, find out why you want to gain back your fitness or your health? Whatever the reason, just get up. Take a walk around the park, or even just the block! Often we have this idea of a perfect diet, perfect fitness diet, or perfect lifestyle in our heads. Focus on consistency. Get up and get out there!
    Dr. Kirk Erickson

Dr. Erickson is a Professor in the Departments of Psychology and Geriatric Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh, working in the Center for the Neural Basis of Cognition within the Center for Neuroscience. His research examines cognitive and brain changes that occur as a function of physical health and aging, and he develops training, physical activity, and exercise trials.

Exercise picks up new neurons the brain. It also creates new capillary bed growth that allows more oxygen going to the brain. Our brain is plastic, it is malleable. While our brain gets smaller the more we age, there are ways to heed that shrinkage and keep our brain in tip top shape. We shouldn't just think as exercise separate from diet. Dr. Kirk Erickson has found that diet affects your brain as well. We know a lot about exercise and the brain through animal studies. Exercise can help the brain sleep better and increase cognitive function. Get at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity a week, or a combination of moderate and vigorous activity.

    Thank You!

  • #1412, Dr. Terry Wahls, Robin Perry Braun

    Happy Tuesday
Today, Robin Perry Braun is here to talk about reinventing yourself. Dr. Terry Wahls is back to talk about The Wahls Protocol and How To Reverse Autoimmune Diseases. So, let's get started!
    Robin Perry Braun
Robin Perry Braun has a Master’s Degree in psychology, she is a certified Energy Practitioner and ordained minister. She is working on her doctorate in Integrated medicine. She has spent more than 20 years searching for tools that bring authentic healing to the tough-to-heal afflictions. Robin is the author of “A Believers guide to the Law of Attraction”, “30 Days to Peace and Joy” and “Journey through the Storm: Overcoming Your Husband’s Porn/Sex Addiction.”

Resolutions don’t typically work. Junior himself hasn’t made a New Year’s resolution in two years. Our bodies can’t just change immediately so change must be incremental. In 2020, the whole world got faced with adversity. New Years statistics. Like in football, we have to be strong and all 4 quarters to win the game. Not just come out strong in the beginning. A lot of people have trauma bonds to things that used to bring their brain joy. This can even include becoming addicted to therapy. Robbins main goal was a therapist is to allow people to show emotion on their own, without having to have someone pull it out of them.
    Dr. Terry Wahls
Dr. Terry Wahls is a clinical professor at the University of Iowa and the author of  the recently updated book The Wahls Protocol: How I Beat Progressive MS Using Paleo Principles and Functional Medicine

Dr. Terry Wahls was diagnosed with relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis in 2000, around the time I began working at the university. By 2003 Terry had transitioned to secondary progressive multiple sclerosis. She underwent chemotherapy in an attempt to slow the disease and began using a tilt-recline wheelchair because of weakness in her back muscles. This was the catalyst for Terry developing The Wahls protocol.

The Wahls protocol teaches a better lifestyle. This means eating for your body, meditation, and all around health. Diet is a very powerful intervention in reversing auto immune diseases and disorders. Eat lots of vegetables that vary in color. Get rid of processed food. Know your vitamin D level, and get enough sunlight on your skin. Fish oil is also very helpful. B vitamins also never hurt. Dr. Terry Wahls suggests epsom salt baths in the evening to absorb magnesium through the skin and aid in sleep.
    Thank You!

  • #1411, Dr. Al Danenberg, Mike McFarland

    Happy Monday!
Today we have Dr. Al Danenberg talking about the 5 important tools for a robust immune system. Mike McFarland stops by to discuss putting politics into a healthy perspective. So, let's get started!
    Dr. Al Danenberg
We love hearing from Dr. Al Danenberg.  He recently received news that he is cancer free after battling incurable aggressive multiple myeloma for two years. He says his ancestral nutrition protocol was a contributor to his ability to beat cancer. We owe everything we are to our immune system. You cannot get a healthy immune system by just taking pills you must be proactive in your lifestyle. Bernadette was feeling extremely crummy yesterday, but after taking a lot of vitamin C, she felt immediately better! Dr. Danenberg says diet is everything. Your gums can be a sign of weakness in your immune system. Gum should never be bleeding.

Ketones are chemicals your liver makes. You produce them when you don't have enough insulin in your body to turn sugar (or glucose) into energy. You need another source, so your body uses fat instead. Your liver turns this fat into ketones, a type of acid, and sends them into your bloodstream. They live simply because we can fight of microbes in our environment they’re trying to attack our immune system.
    Mike McFarland
Dr. Mike McFarland is a licensed psychologist who specializes in the treatment of anxiety disorders, OCD, male body image and eating disorders. It's crazy that the political climate has been interfering with relationships. Over 50% of adults say that they are stressed about the election. Who who actively engage in social media report higher levels of stress relating to the politics in the election. No that says we only have control of ourselves, so to worry about other peoples political leanings is futile we we can control our lives, but we can’t control others so we shouldn’t even bother. Avoid engaging and doom scrolling. Just put your phone down and be in the present!
    Thank You!

  • #1410, Patti Dawson, Mary Catherine Benavides

    Happy Furry Friday!
Patti Dawson from the Dallas DogRRR is here to talk about animal neglect. New guest Mary Catherine Benavides from “The Family Place” is here to discuss their mission.
    Patti Dawson
Dallas DogRRR  is a group of dedicated, animal loving volunteers who help rescue dogs in the South East Dallas area. Patti started volunteering with Dallas DogRRR in 2014 and began running the operations in January of 2016. When she’s not rescuing animals, Patti is a behavior specialist, wife and mom.
How Dallas Dogrrr is Fighting to End Animal Neglect
Recently there was a sad story in the news coming from South Texas. A man who was attempting to save dogs but accidentally caught all their kennels on fire. Dallas DogRRR immediately went to try and save the day by giving the dogs the medical care they need. Dallas DogRRR takes in the cases that no other organization wants to take. The key for this heartbreaking story is the patience that will be needed to therapize the dogs back to normalcy.

Patti used to think five dollars didn’t really count. But once she started running her own organization, she realized that the five dollars from 100 different people adds up quick.

Patti wants everyone to know that they are not just a rescue. They work not just to take a dog in, but to fit the systems that failed the dog in the first place. With the burned dogs, they are not just going to take his burned dogs and help them, they are going to stop this man from doing unknowing harm again.
    Dallas DogRRR and Cats
Dallas DogRRR manages feral cat colonies and helps reduce the number of kittens being produced every kitten season! Kitten season is right around the corner so please remember to spay and neuter your cat, especially if they go outside.
    Mary Catherine Benavides
Mary Catherine Benavides is the Development Manager of The Family Place.

She has been with the organization for over 7 years and leads their SafeKeepers Annual Giving Society, their ReuNight Major Donor Dinner Fundraiser, is spearheading Love Helps, their new Valentine’s Dinner Delivery Fundraiser, and organized the $17 Million Legacy Campaign to build Ann Moody Place. Mary Catherine hails from small town Tennessee, graduated from Vanderbilt University and previously worked in Major Gifts at Duke University before relocating to Dallas with her husband. She is an active member of the Junior League of Dallas and the Dallas Alpha Delta Pi Alumnae Association, and enjoys spending time with her family and friends, including her toddler girl and menagerie of animals.
    The Family Place Mission
The Family Place empowers victims of family violence by providing safe housing, counseling and skills that create independence while building community engagement and advocating for social change to stop family violence. Today The Family Place is the largest family violence service provider in Texas, with three emergency shelters providing 177 shelter beds each night, including the state’s only shelter for men and children, and three counseling centers. We served 11,933 clients last year providing 62,118 days of emergency shelter, 36,015 days of transitional housing, 18,526 hours of counseling to nonresidential clients, and 8,758 hours of counseling to batterers.

An incredible thing about the Family Place is that they are one of the only safe places in the country for families cats and dogs as well! They do not let that family that is already going through a nightmare to loose their furry family members too. When a family is trying to find safety, the animals need safety too, so they are covered by The Family Place! The SPCA helps families spay, neuter, and medicalize the furry family members in need too.
    Thank You!

  • #1409, Kip Watson, Sam Morris

    Happy Friday Eve!
Today we have a great show! Kip Watson is here to talk about how to always be a high performer. Sam Morris is back to discuss the power there is in surrendering. So, let's get started!
    Kip Watson
Kip Watson is a Licensed Professional Counselor & Supervisor and Sports Psychology Professional. With nearly 20 years of experience with athletes, coaches, families, and corporate teams, Kip can do it all as a certified high performance coach. To read more about Kip as owner and founder of BrainCode Corps, click here.
How Anyone Can Be A High Performer
Get honest with yourself. When you re struggling with yourself to identify your goals, yo mist look within. A lot of people get s tuck in the minutia of analysis and get stuck in finding and achieving their goals. Everyone needs clarity in their personal life. Everyone needs a meeting with themselves! For some people, positive reinforcement is hard, almost unachievable. Write down what you love about yourself. That will help you become a high performer.
    Sam Morris
Sam Morris is the founder of The Unbreakable Human Project, an interactive web-based personal development program for men wanting to “slay their mental dragons” of depression, anxiety and addiction. He is a certified Personal Development Coach, Recovery Consultant and Health Coach.
    The Power Of Surrendering
When we surrender, we let go of the results of our actions. We accept that we can do everything right and well, and still not reach the goal we had set out to achieve ... Surrendering the results of our actions puts our attention on how we are in this moment, what's actually here, what life is now. We want to be clear that there is a huge difference between letting go of control or surrendering and giving up. "If you are depressed you are living in the past. If you are anxious you are living in the future. If you are at peace you are living in the present."
    Thank You!

  • #1407, Jared Ramirez, Ryan Casey Waller

    Happy Tuesday!
Jared Ramirez, CEO of Enviromedica, is here to talk about bacteriophages, an ingredient in their Terraflora Advanced Care probiotic. Ryan Casey Waller joins us to discuss his new book, "Depression, Anxiety, and Other Things We Don't Want to Talk About." So let's get started!
    Jared Ramirez
Jared Ramirez is the CEO of Enviromedica, makers of Terraflora and a sponsor of One Life Radio. Enviromedica is a natural health and wellness company founded in 2007. Inspired by nature and ancestral health, they make premium foundational products to support whole body nutrition and help people achieve optimal health.
    Bacteriophage
Terraflora Advanced Care uniquely incorporates targeted bacteriophages for intensive GI support. Found ubiquitously in nature, bacteriophages are microscopic proteins that inhibit the growth of unwanted bacteria in the gut. This allows beneficial bacteria to thrive, while maintaining an appropriate microbial balance to support a healthy GI tract. TerraFlora advanced care differentiates in what bacteriophages it targets.

We have bacteriophages in out body. Bacteria in our body outnumber us 300 to one. Bacteriophages outnumber us 10 to one in our body. They are not a bad thing necessarily. Bacteriophages are so large, that we do not even have a number that our brains can comprehend. They are much more specific than antibiotics, and are typically harmless to the host organism and beneficial bacteria. This reduces the chance of opportunistic infections.
    Ryan Casey Waller

Ryan Casey Waller is a licensed psychotherapist, lawyer, and pastor who has heard all the jokes about being both lawyer and priest. He studied philosophy and religion at the University of Southern California before pursuing a law degree, a masters in theology, and a masters in counseling from Southern Methodist University. Ryan practiced law before turning to a career in ministry, serving in both academic and ecclesial settings. He is now in private practice in Dallas. You can find his latest book,“Depression, Anxiety, and Other Things We Don’t Want to Talk About” on amazon.com.

Depression, Anxiety, and Other Things We Don't Want to Talk About
What do you call a priest who is also a lawyer? A Father In Law! Ryan helps individuals with large online platforms tell their stories through books. Feel free to reach out if you're interested in hiring a professional ghostwriter. Mental illness loves to tell lies. One of those lies is that you really should be able to manage what you're struggling with. Pastor and psychotherapist Ryan Casey Waller says no. Mental health issues are not a symptom of a spiritual failing or insufficient faith; rather, suffering is the very thing our Savior seeks to heal as he leads us toward restoration. And yet, as Waller has experienced personally, the battle can be lonely and discouraging. But it doesn't have to be.
