  • #1395, Dr. Joey Antonio, Dr. Jen Myers, DNA

    Happy Wednesday!
We have a great show in store for you all today! Longtime friend and Colleague of One Life Radio who was there from the very beginning, Dr. Joey Antonio is here, and we are so excited! Dr. Jen Myers, formulator for Sunwarrior is back to discuss DNA Based Nutrition, so stick around!
    Dr. Joey Antonio
Dr. Jose Antonio is a long time friend of One Life Radio’s. Dr. Antonio earned his PhD and completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Jose Antonio is the founder and CEO of the ISSN!

How Exercise and Supplements Affect the Brain
Happy Festivus! Dr. Joey doesn't even go to the gym any more, he just goes straight to the ocean! Paddling on the waves engages all your core muscles and ignites your overall wellness. Being exposed to the sun isn't just getting vitamin D, it is more than that. The sun affects our brain health as well, versus being in grey overcast skies. Exercise in general help cognition, brain health, and obviously physical health. We know how much exercise we need for exact optimal health for things like "cardiovascular health." We do not know how much and what kind of exercise we need for optimal brain health.

Bernadette asks Dr. Joey directly about CBD and the brain. Dr. Joey says that CBD is a tough subject. He believes that CBD may be placebo affect, and there is not any data on CBD and exercise directly. No body really knows what kind of pain CBD targets in the body, so it is tough to determine. CBD and athletics need to be researched more, and Dr. Joey Antonio is on it! Sports drinks are better than just water as far as rehydration. Surprisingly, milk is the best for long term rehydration.
    Creatine
Creatine is a substance that is found naturally in muscle cells. It helps your muscles produce energy during heavy lifting or high-intensity exercise. Chemically speaking, it shares many similarities with amino acids. Your body can produce it from the amino acids glycine and arginine. Dr. Joey says many people have weird and bad ideas around creatine. The ISSN is about to publish a paper debunking the myths surrounding creatine. So look out for that! Creatine is typically used by meat eaters, but it is vegans and vegetarians who do not eat meat and especially fish that can benefit from creatine. If you have a child in a high contact sport, having them on creatine is actually great! Contrary to social beliefs, creation is not

    Dr. Jen Myers
Dr. Jen Myers is a Doctor of Natural Medicine, Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine and a Certified Genomics/Nutrigenetic Specialist. She is the Chief Genomics Officer and Master Formulator on two Scientific Advisory Boards focused on DNA-based supplementation. Myers instructs Physicians and Practitioners how to implement Nutrigenomics into their practices to provide a more personalized approach. She is also a formulator for Sunwarrior plant-based proteins and has published a number of articles on their behalf.

    The Future of DNA-Based Nutrition
Dr. Jen Myers is at the forefront of DNA based research and genomic researching. Common DNA testing like 23andMe and Ancestry are not enough, especially if you want to optimize your body’s health and biochemistry, not just look at your risk for some common diseases. Individual genetics, food processing, less nutrient dense soil, and so many other factors go into the nutrition of your food and what your body is actually able to absorb and use. Dr. Jen Myers believes 110% that everyone should have a nutrigenomics test done. It is the best way to know exactly what your bod...

  • #1394, Shawn Wells, Holidays Without Weight Gain

    Happy Tuesday!
Happy Holidays! We are so lucky to have a full hour with Shawn Wells! Today, Shawn and Bernadette will be talking about avoiding holiday weight gain and affirming your health goals during the holidays.
    Shawn Wells
Shawn Wells is a Master of Public Health, Licensed Dietitian, Registered Dietitian, Certified Sports Nutritionist from the International Society of Sports Nutrition. He is also a Fellow of the International Society of Sports Nutrition. Shawn Wells is the world’s leading nutritional biochemist and expert on Health Optimization. He has formulated over 500 supplements and patented 10 novel ingredients. Formerly a Chief Clinical Dietitian with over a decade of clinical experience, he has counseled thousands of people on natural health solutions such as keto, paleo, fasting, and supplements.

As a world-renowned thought-leader on mitochondrial health, he has been paid to speak on five different continents. His insights have been prominently featured in documentaries, nationally syndicated radio programs, and regularly on morning television. Shawn’s expertise can help any health-conscious high achiever to better manage stress and experience higher performance and more energy through utilizing his practical wholistic solutions.
Enjoying The Holidays Without Weight Gain
Shawn's new book comes out April First! He pushed it back a bit to make sure it was perfect for the reader, chocked full of information that is life changing. Shawn wanted to make his new book less "scientific" and more laymen's terms for ease for the reader. Be reasonable on portion sizes. You CAN make healthier recipes for the holidays. You don't have to double down on double portions or sugary treats. Control is yours! You don't have to feed off your significant other's or families eating habits, but rather implement your own. Shawn gains weight during the holidays, but we all do. There is a certain amount that he will allow, but he has a cutoff. Shawn says don't let things get out of control.

Shawn says eat until you're 80% full. But how do you know? When you are starting to "feel full," stop. You are actually full and will feel it in about 20-30 minutes. Alcoholic drinks, like many other drinks, contain calories that can add up quickly. Going out for a couple of drinks can add 500 calories, or more, to your daily intake. Most alcoholic drinks have little to no nutritional value. Be careful of your go-to drink! Bring your own healthy side dish. Your family typically doesn't know what regiment you're on to, i.e keto, etc. Avoid the guilt and shame and just bring your own side dish or dessert!

Allow yourself the grace to enjoy some decadent treats but always be mindful. When you really enjoy the environment you're in and have the gratitude, Shawn says the food nourishes you differently.
    Thank You!
A big thank you to our guests, Shawn Wells! Visit Shawn Wells on his website here, and follow him on his Instagram, @shawnwells.

  • #1393, Autumn Connolly, Hypnosis, Jason Harris, 2021

    Happy Monday!
Bernadette and Junior are excited that were are now on FM in Southern California! How cool! We here at One Life Radio are so excited to get our information out there as much as we can. At the half we have Author and CEO of Mekanism, Jason Harris so stick around. First up, we have Resident Earth Mama Autumn Warren Connolly talking about Hypnosis. So let's get started!
    Autumn Warren Connolly
Autumn Connolly lives in the sky islands of Arizona with her three kiddos and animal babies. She is the creator of Anvil Traditional Healing, a company dedicated to restoring microbiome health through diet. Follow Autumn on Instagram @AnvilTraditionalHealing. Autumn is a self-taught vegan chef, a serial gardener and an avid believer and teacher of the powers of meditation.
    Hypnosis
Hypnosis is a human condition involving focused attention, reduced peripheral awareness, and an enhanced capacity to respond to suggestion. Hypnotherapy versus Hypnosis is interesting. Hypnotherapy is using hypnosis to try and treat something. They are basically the same thing, but hypnotherapy is to get to a point or to treat. During hypnosis, a person has heightened focus and concentration. Hypnotized subjects are said to show an increased response to suggestions. Hypnosis usually begins with a hypnotic induction involving a series of preliminary instructions and suggestion. Hypnotherapy is used more than one thinks. Now, it is being recognized medically as an aide to treat.

Autumn wants the listeners to know that hypnosis is real and can really help someone convince themselves for their own gain. Autumn uses hypnotherapy when she has "big ticket" items on her to-do list. She records her own voice saying whatever she needs to hear and plays it when she needs extra affirmation! Use whatever you need to help yourself get through tough times, even if it is your own voice. 2020 is almost over!
    Jason Harris
Jason Harris is the Co-Founder & CEO of Mekanism, an award- winning creative advertising agency whose clients include Ben & Jerry’s, Peloton, OkCupid, Molson Coors and Alaska Airlines. Under his leadership, Mekanism was named to Ad Age’s Agency A-list and twice to their Best Places to Work. Mekanism was also named as one of Creativity’s Creativity 50.Harris has been named in the Top 10 Most Influential Social Impact Leaders, as well as in the 4A’s list of “100 People Who Make Advertising Great”. Jason’s national best-selling book, “The Soulful Art of Persuasion,” highlights the 11 habits you need to become more authentically or soulfully persuasive.

Advertising & Marketing Predictions for 2021
Jason Harris says 2020 was a dumpster fire. 2020 we all learned a lot about ourselves, and we were forced to be introspective. A shining part of 2020 was getting to spend extra time with family. Bernadette says that a good thing that came from 2020 was being able to take care of ourselves and practice self care and look at our health. Jason Harris calls 2020 the year for listening. On the business side, he says that businesses were forced to listen more to their customers. Advertising took some tweaking because of the toss up with the pandemic.

Bernadette gives kudos to Jason on his humor! Adding humor to business is a delicate balance. If you get anything wrong, you can upset the internet. At the start of the pandemic, COVID advertising was direct CEO's to consumers. Now, Jason says there's a need for fun. To laugh! Jason says that we can not downplay the virus, but we can try to add humor and lightness to it.
    Thank You!

Finding Joy and Well-Being For Then Entire Family
Everyone wants an absence of chaos. We have to find joy in the small things in life. If you have ever traveled to countries that are not as fortunate as us, you notice the difference int he children. Dr. Lori Whatley says these children find joy in things smaller than the children here in the US do. Take pleasure in the simple things! If you see a cute potted plant that you can afford, buy it and put it in your home. Decorate the tree with your family, but remember that everything is difference for every individual. We need to be conscious of our behaviors. Internal peace can only be achieved with consciousness of happiness. Therapy is a great way to get to know yourself, and mindfulness is a great way to learn to know yourself.

What Are You Willing To Sacrifice For Your Relationships?
In relationships, when you want something you have to be able to sacrifice something for your partner. For both people to win, one person has to succumb to the other. In a healthy relationship, you mist be willing to sacrifice your time. Time is the most valuable currency. Money is one of the biggest predictors of poor relationships. A lot of people don't want to talk about money, and that will hurt them in the long run. You need to talk to your partner about money, as hard as it may be. Sharing the same values with your partner is the most important. Share hobbies, values, and goals and you should have a healthy relationship.

  • #1388, Stephanie Toups, Cyndi O’Meara

    Happy Monday!
Junior had a great weekend! Both Junior's and Bernadette's NFL teams won this weekend, so they're happy! Bernadette is wondering what the Super Bowl will be like this year in the midst of a pandemic? Who knows! We have a great show coming up today! At the half, we have Cyndi O'Meara, Founder of Changing Habits talking about what ingredients we need to add to our life to have a happy holidays, so stick around! First up, we have Stephanie Toups talking about Self Care, so let's get started!
    Stephanie Toups
Stephanie is a consumer advocate professional particularly focused on safety in food and personal care products. She became fascinated with the industry when she was diagnosed with a thyroid autoimmune disorder while pregnant with her second child. Stephanie has always been fascinated with education and holds both an undergraduate and Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance from Texas A&M University. She is a Certified Public Accountant and has owned and operated numerous businesses in the Dallas area.
    The Importance Of Self Care
Self care at the heart of it is the relationship to self. Rather than narrowly defining self care to a strictly beauty or physical element, it’s really a much broader scope. Weaving self care into the work place and Into the work day is so important! Work self care into your day, no matter what. Especially during a pandemic, our needs for self care have changed. We can’t forget men in the self care mix! For Junior, he doesn’t think that self care is promoted as much to men as it is to women. Stephanie agrees! Take the word “should” out of the sentence “self care.” Take time in the morning to identify what you need the most during the day.

Pick a day that you designate for ultimate self care! Stephanie says to ignore the buzz words and the "buzz products" that might be in your line of sight when you are in line to check out. Be aware of the toxicity that is in self care products. Most people are aware of the toxicity of genetically modified foods, but many forget about self care sets like perfumed soaps and soaks.
    Cyndi O'Meara
Cyndi is an internationally acclaimed nutritionist, author, and documentary maker. She is the founder of Changing Habits which is an educational health and nutrition business. Cyndi has authored and self-published ‘Changing Habits Changing Lives’ prior to creating the documentary What’s With Wheat? in 2016. What’s With Wheat? investigates how the modern agricultural practices of wheat growing has produced a product that is making people more susceptible to disease.
    Ingredients For A Healthy Holiday
Everything on Cyndi's site using ethos! Ethics! To be the most authentic, innovative and impactful whole food company, Cyndi and Changing Habits makes sure that everything that they sell is to the utmost standards. By educating people on food choices, how to read food labels, why diets don’t work, and how drugs can affect your total well-being and vitality, Cyndi empowers them to make long lasting changes with simple and achievable steps on how to create healthier habits. Cyndi says that she can tell if a company is a "thinker" or a stinker by just looking at the ingredient list on the packaging! Changing habits only uses fair trade and non GMO ingredients in all their products.

At Changing Habits, they believe that educating people about whole food is the key to a rebellion. They believe that everyone has a right to understand what makes food healthy. Changing Habits believe that when we know better, we eat better. When we eat better, we live better. And when we live better, we create a ripple effect that impact generations to come. Cyndi knows that everyone wants to eat healthfully. Cyndi O'Meara knows that most people know that eating healthy is important.

  • #1390, Sam Morris, Freyja Spence, Animal Flow

    Happy Hump Day!
It's workout Wednesday! Bernadette and Junior are having a busy but good day! We have a great show in store today! At the half we have Freyja Spence, Master Of Animal Flow, so stick around! First up, we have Sam Morris, the man you want to go to if you want to "Slay Your Mental Dragons" so let's get started!
    Sam Morris
Sam Morris is the founder of The Unbreakable Human Project, an interactive web-based personal development program for men wanting to “slay their mental dragons” of depression, anxiety and addiction. He is a certified Personal Development Coach, Recovery Consultant and Health Coach.
    Finding Our Frequency
When we align our vibrations with the things we want, we align the universe. When we tune ourselves into what we need, we are unlocking the higher frequencies. Lower vibration activities are addiction, bad feelings, and hard energies. Sam recommends a wonderful book, "The Body Keeps Score." Bernadette recommends it too! If you are feeling something in your body, your body is keeping score and remembering what trauma has happened to it. There is so much more to fitness than just being in the gym. When you let life creep in, you're sacrificing your high energies to dip low. Remember self care. Create a safe space for yourself.

Meditate, go outside, smile at strangers, up your frequency! People can tell the you answer the phone and don't smile beforehand. Get in front go the mirror and say affirmations every morning. Put good into the world!
    Freyja Spence
Freyja is a Master Animal Flow instructor and Health Coach with over 14 years of experience in pain management, injury prevention, fitness testing, pre & post-operative care and athletic development through strength training. She is one of Canada’s first Animal Flow Instructors and has been involved in education for fitness professionals in Canada for a decade. Her passion for teaching and movement stems from her years in classical ballet that started at the age of two and continued to a pre-professional level.
    Animal Flow
Fitness and health was something that Freyja grew up on. Health and wellness was part of her education! Animal Flow was invented by Mike Fitch. Animal Flow is ground based movement, made fun, challenging and effective. This system is designed to improve strength, power, flexibility, mobility, and coordination for all levels of fitness enthusiasts. Animal Flow includes a range of movements and combinations that are grouped into categories we call the “Six Components.” Each Component is designed to elicit specific results. The Six Components can be mixed and matched in many ways, allowing you to incorporate one, some, or all of them in your workouts.

    Happy Tuesday!
Bernadette and Junior are having a great day! Did you know Squirrel health and what they can and can’t eat is similar to humans? So interesting! Bernadette found this out when she bought some wallets that she didn't end up liking. Turns out squirrels love walnuts! At the half we have Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum talking about the benefits of vitamin D during the winter months! First up, we have Robin Perry Braun discussing making special memories during a pandemic holiday, so let's get started!

Making Special Memories In A Difficult Seas0n
Robin says she is immune to COVID. She says go out and have lunch with those who are also okay with going out and being around people! America is only 1 of 2 countries that can show pharmaceutical ads. Prescription drug ads are ubiquitous, to such a degree that most Americans likely don't even think it's strange that patients are asked to recommend drugs to their doctors... which kind of should be the other way around, right? Even stranger, the United States is the only country, besides New Zealand, that legally permits "direct-to-consumer" pharmaceutical advertising. He is the lead author of 5 studies on effective treatment for fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, and a study on effective treatment of autism using NAET, an Allergy Elimination Technique (a natural, drug-free, non-invasive treatment to relieve allergies, addiction, anxiety, depression and many other disorders.) Dr. Teitelbaum appears often as a guest on news and talk shows nationwide including Good Morning America, The Dr. Oz Show, Oprah & Friends, CNN, and FoxNewsHealth.
The Benefits Of Vitamin D For Covid Prevention And Beyond
Covid symptoms affect everyone differently, but so do every other viruses! Vitamin d is a critical vitamin and hormone! If you’re laying on the beach and turning pink, your body is making vitamin D. Melatonin can be preventative for COVID 19! Dr. Teitelbaum takes 5mg at night. If you are indoors or around others, wear a mask. It is common sense! If you have bad migraines, don't fret! Most migraines are treatable! Take riboflavin, vitamin d, vitamin c, and magnesium!

    Happy Furry Friday!
Happy Furry Friday! It’s a furbulous day here in Dallas, Texas! We are proud to say we have partnered with Castor & Pollux Pet Food! As the leader and maker of America’s #1 organic pet food, Castor & Pollux has set a new standard with the most comprehensive portfolio of purposeful pet food. At the half we have a wonderful guest, Stacy Sutton Kerby from The Texas Humane Legislation Network talking about abolishing puppy mills! But first up, we have Maura Davies of The SPCA Texas, so let's get started!
    Maura Davies
Maura Davies is the Vice President for Marketing & Communications at the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) of Texas. As a longtime friend of One Life Radio, Maura is with us almost every Friday!
How Pets Support Our Mental Health
Bernadette says that having a pet in the family home can teach kids empathy, responsibly, and more! Children with ADHD can benefit from working with and keeping a pet. Taking charge of the jobs on a pet care schedule, such as feeding, walking and bathing, helps a child learn to plan and be responsible. Walking a dog often leads to conversations with other dog owners and this helps owners to stay socially connected and less withdrawn. People who have more social relationships and friendships tend to be mentally healthier.

Having a pet in the house increases the positive energy! It’s also no surprise that 98% of pet owners consider their pet to be a member of the family. Not only are people happier in the presence of animals, they’re also healthier. In a survey of pet owners, 74% of pet owners reported mental health improvements from pet ownership, and 75% of pet owners reported a friend’s or family member’s mental health has improved from pet ownership. The simple act of petting a cat or a dog can reduce stress related hormones and lower your heart rate! If you have anxiety and suffer from panic attacks, you can begin to pet your animal to help aid in preventing a big anxiety attack.
    Stacy Sutton Kerby
Stacy’s tenure with Texas Humane Legislation Network, or THLN, began in 2012 with fundraising and grassroots organizing. Since then, Stacy has worn several hats for THLN, including Volunteer Coordinator, Director of Operations, and Legislative Liaison. Stacy served as THLN’s Interim Executive Director in 2015 when they successfully passed HB 593 – the Mandatory Canine Encounter Training Law. In 2019, Stacy launched Safekeeping – a program supporting the pets of people exiting crises. She received her Master’s in Public Affairs from the LBJ School in August 2019, and returned to THLN in 2020 as the Director of Government relations. Stacy volunteers in her local community with the Austin Humane Society and PALS – a program supporting the pets of Meals On Wheels clients
Texas Human Legislation Network Fight To Abolish Puppy Mills In Texas
The Texas legislature is preparing to gut the state program that prevents unregulated puppy mills. Since 2011, the Texas Dog & Cat Breeder Act has given the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) the right to regulate the conditions in large-scale animal breeding facilities. Without this Act, unregulated, large scale breeding facilities could likely become inhumane puppy mills producing dogs for profit in the cruelest conditions.

We must remind Texas legislators of the importance of this Program. Elimination of the Program means zero regulations for those profiting off puppies. The absence of even the most basic minimum care standards will lead to horrific puppy mills. This will be causing thousands of dogs and cats will suffer a lifetime of neglect. THLN’s goals are to protect this incredibly important Program and then fix the existing loopholes to strengthen it. NOW is the time for action. Please help us change the fate of thousands of animals in commercial breeding facilities by signing an...

  • #1386, Von Eaglin, Trisha Cunningham, North Texas Food Bank

    Happy Thursday!
It is a hot day here in the North Texas area! The high is almost 80 degrees! We have a great show it store for you today! At the half, we have Trisha Cunningham, the President and CEO of the North Texas Food Bank on to discuss giving back with The North Texas Food Bank, so stick around for Trisha! First up, we have a One Life Radio favorite, Von Eaglin, so let's get started!
    Von Eaglin
Von Eaglin is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor and works with two group practices in the Dallas area. He is a certified couple relationship trainer and sees a wide range of clients addressing men’s issues, anger management, abuse, and addiction; just to name a few. He is also a doctoral candidate at the University of North Texas in the Counseling and Higher Education Department. His Ph.D. research focuses on on couple relationships dialogue. You can find him at his website or follow him on Instagram @VonTalks.
Von's Solutions For Top Holiday Stressors
Family issues and family pressures are definitely one of the biggest reasons for holiday stressors. There are a lot of expectations placed on us around the holidays that we fall into the happiness trap. The happiness trap is when we try so hard to be happy, that when we are not ecstatic, we are ultimately disappointed and end up being incredibly sad. Financial stress is another big holiday stressors. Use your creativity! Von says that for his Mother each year, he makes her a custom calendar! How cute and sweet!

Children are very susceptible to adult stress. If the child is 5, maybe don't tell them that the bills are piling up. If the child is 14, a conversation about how might things really cost may be a good life lesson. There is a difference in being broke and poor. Broke means you have no money, poor is a state of mind. You always need to be able to differentiate the two to your self and to your children!
    Trisha Cunningham

Trisha Cunningham is President and CEO of the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB), a nonprofit focused on eradicating hunger in a diverse 13-county service area. It is estimated that more than 900,000 people in the North Texas area do not know where their next healthy meal is coming from. Cunningham and the NTFB team along with their partner agencies and thousands of volunteers provided access to almost 97 million meals last fiscal year. Prior to North Texas Food Bank, Cunningham was a 30-year global marketing, communications, branding, and public affairs executive at Texas Instruments where she most recently served as Chief Citizenship Officer. Cunningham currently serves as a director for Feeding Texas, Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas, and the International Women’s Forum (IWF) Dallas Chapter.

Giving Back With North Texas Food Bank
1 in 5 people in North Texas is food insecure and doesn’t know where his or her next meal is coming from. Every $1 helps provide three nutritious meals for hungry children, seniors and families in our community. Consider becoming a volunteer! Every hour you give gets us closer to a hunger-free, healthy North Texas.
