  • #1385, Tom Blas, Chris Gronkowski, Ice Shaker

    Happy Wednesday!
We have a great show in store for you today! At the half, we have formal NFL player and Ice Shaker Inventor Chris Gronkowski, so stick around! First up we have Krav Maga expert and fitness guru Tom Blas on, so stick around!
    Tom Blas
Tom is an United States Army veteran, certified trainer and Krav Maga instructor. He was one of the first Krav Maga instructors in San Antonio, helping to establish what are now the largest Krav Maga World- wide training facilities in the U.S. In 2005, he moved to Dallas to oversee training and education for all DFW 24-Hour Fitness locations. Currently, Tom is one of the top trainers in the Metroplex with over 60 client sessions per week.
How To Fit Working Out Into Your Holiday Schedule
Bernadette talks about how her daughter's Italian cookies drove her a little crazy, crazy good! Tom says that we all are trying to get on track with our lives in general. Half of the battle is just showing up to workout, to move your body. At the end of the day, if you don't take care of your health, no one else will. The most time and body effective workout you can do around the holidays is something high intensity. You want to get your heart rate up and give your all you can effort in that moment! The goal when Tom is training someone is to maximize their own benefits. During the holiday season, a combination of weight training and cardio is the best for keeping off weight!

Support from other people to workout is key. The last thing you want is no support. You don't want someone who only eats pizzas and burgers around you. When you do have that support, you are allowed to have the small successes that lead to big successes. The journey began when Chris tried to seek out a shaker cup that would keep his drinks cold with the convenient easy-open pop-top lid. Chris also wanted to be able to use it all day long, not just at the gym. So, the Ice Shaker Bottle was born!
    Chris Gronkowski

Chris Gronkowski is the owner and inventor of the Ice Shaker, vacuum insulated bottles that hold ice for over 30 hours. He first made a career for himself as a professional football player, joining the NFL in 2010 after being signed by the Dallas Cowboys as a fullback. During his years in the NFL, Gronkowski also played for the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos. Now, with the help of his four brothers, Chris Gronkowski puts all of his energy into running Ice Shaker, continuously updating the product line while improving the experience of protein shakers everywhere.

Chris Gronkowski’s Life Lessons from the Locker Room
Diane Gronkowski-Walters ran one of the best teams in the country. Her five sons. Chris's mother made her sons go outside and play! That turned into backyard baseball, football, and impromptu ice hockey games! Once all the boys got into high school, their backyard sports turned into high school sports and that launched the brothers' careers. Chris Gronkowski inverted the Ice Shaker Bottle and it took off after Chris appeared on shark tank!

    Thank You!

    Happy Tuesday!
Happy Tuesday and Happy football shop talk! Junior and Bernadette talk about the Falcons, The Cowboys, and more! Junior tells us about his friend and former Dallas Cowboy Chris Gronkowski being on the show tomorrow! Meanwhile, we have a great show in store for you today! At the half we have Zen Honeycutt talking about Moms Across America! First up, we have Jared Ramirez talking about his company Enviromedica, one of our favorite sponsors, so let's get started!
    Jared Ramirez
Jared Ramirez is the CEO of Enviromedica, makers of Terraflora and a sponsor of One Life Radio. Enviromedica is a natural health and wellness company founded in 2007. Inspired by nature and ancestral health, they make premium foundational products to support whole body nutrition and help people achieve optimal health.
    Enviromedica
Different strains in different probiotics target different places in the body! The differences are in the bacterial DNA and what they can do to stimulate out immune systems and where. Terraflora introduces Ribospore (Bacillus pumilus) and Bacillus megaterium EM144 –novel, spore-form microorganisms scientifically shown to generate highly bioavailable, gastric stable antioxidant carotenoids, with Ribospore (Bacillus pumilus) generating riboflavin (vitamin B2) in the gastrointestinal tract– providing 300-500 times more riboflavin than a typical strain. This essentially creates a vitamin factory in your gut!

Let's get back to basics! Gut flora or gut microbiota are the microorganisms including bacteria, archaea and fungi that live in the digestive tracts of humans and other animals including insects. The gastrointestinal metagenome is the aggregate of all the genomes of gut microbiota. The gut is the main location of human microbiota. Envormedica always strives to align themselves with the closest to out primal and ancestral heritage as they scientifically can.
    Zen Honeycutt
Zen Honeycutt is an activist, speaker, author, and the founder and director of Moms Across America, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to educate and empower mothers and others with actions and solutions to create healthy communities. While heading Moms Across America, Zen initiated the first testing for glyphosate in tap water, breast milk, and urine and spearheaded the non-profit’s successful petition to Costco to remove Roundup from their shelves. She is the author of “UNSTOPPABLE: Transforming Sickness and Struggle into Triumph, Empowerment And A Celebration of Community.”
    Moms Across America Update
December 4, 2020, the California Department of Agriculture (CDFA) has issued an immediate statewide quarantine and removal of sale of AGRO GOLD WS organic fertilizer due to the presence of Glyphosate and Diquat, which are not listed on the label. Glyphosate is the most widely used herbicide in the world, predominately used in agriculture directly on our food/feed crops, and has been the subject of tens of thousands of filings of lawsuits for non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, so far totaling to a $10 billion payout. Diquat is a highly toxic chemical known to cause tremors, convulsions and respiratory issues. It is also highly toxic to birds and livestock such as cows, and detrimental to earth worms and honey bees. These two highly harmful chemical herbicides have no place in organic products (or any products), and consumers who purchase these products have a right to be outraged by their presence.

It has been a full and bust weekend, and Team OLR wants to relax, so Junior is just going to play Christmas music all show long! Thank you Junior! We have great show in store for you today! At the half we have Mary Holland talking about a very important topic. First up we have sky Mama Autumn Warren Connolly, so let's get started!
    Autumn Warren Connolly

She is the creator of Anvil Traditional Healing, a company dedicated to restoring microbiome health through diet. How To Be More Self Sufficient At Home
Self sufficiency, to Autumn, is not having to rely on stores for day to day items that may come up. Autumn loves to garden. There is something about eating something that you truly made yourself! Bernadette says self-sufficiency makes you brave! Autumn says to look at what you already have in your kitchen before you go out to the store! You can make your own lotion, toothpaste, and salves all in the kitchen of your own home! Do your own research and find what you like and what your family likes. Being more self sufficient is not as hard as you think, we promise! Follow Autumn on instagram @meditatewithautumn for her own personal stories on being self sufficiency!

    The COVID Vaccine
The new Pfizer vaccine is not truly approved yet. It is approved for emergency use only, and needs to go through a few more layers of the CDC first. According to Mary, flu deaths have not been being properly counted during this pandemic. It is also important to point out that there are more deaths in the winter, regardless of global pandemics or not. We can not say much about this topic, but please listen to the podcast to hear the full interview and Mary Hollands lecture about the new COVID-19 vaccine!

    Happy Furry Friday!
Happy Furry Friday! The week flew by so fast, it’s crazy! It’s a furbulous Friday here in Dallas, Texas! Our pets just ate their delicious Castor & Pollux Pet Food for lunch! As the leader and maker of America’s #1 organic pet food, Castor & Pollux has set a new standard with the most comprehensive portfolio of purposeful pet food. Today we have a great show in store for you with two animal loving women, Maura Davies and Dr. RuthAnn Lobos! Let’s get started!
    Maura Davies
Maura Davies is the Vice President for Marketing & Communications at the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) of Texas. As a longtime friend of One Life Radio, Maura is with us almost every Friday!
Keeping Pets Safe During The Cold Winter Holidays
Maura reminds that people should use common sense when thinking of this - if you are cold, they are cold. Pets are just as vulnerable to sickness like colds and pneumonia. Maura says that if a pet must stay outside, which is not advised, it should be a raised weather-proof area with the entrance facing away from the wind. Don't skip giving a bath in the winter - make sure if the pet is going back outside that they are completely dry, you can use a touch test or a smell test ( there is truth to the smelling like a wet dog statement ). The added wetness makes it colder for the animals and pets can take hours to dry.

Dogs and Cats absolutely need more food during the winter months. The colder they are the more calories they need. Regular vet checkups can help monitor the food intake that they need. More calories taken in = more warmth for the pets. It's important to spay and neuter your animals. It helps your pets live longer and healthier lives. It can help behavior issues and avoid dangerous situations like wandering off or bad confrontations with other animals. Please spay and neuter your animals!
    Dr. RuthAnn Lobos
Dr. RuthAnn Lobos is lead veterinarian for Merrick PetCare, the makers of our Furry Friday sponsor, Castor & Pollux organic and responsibly-sourced pet food. Dr. Lobos is a practicing veterinarian with more than 15 years of experience in the pet food industry. She loves sharing the power of pet nutrition with colleagues, pet parents and friends. In her undergraduate studies, Dr.RuthAnn pursued an animal science degree. She went on to receive her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) from Louisiana State University and became a certified canine rehabilitation therapist. RuthAnn is an avid marathoner and triathlete and proud mama to three active pups, Rigolets, Stella and Finn.

The 12 Dangers of Christmas For Our Pets
Give your animals a safe space during the holidays. Like humans, our pets can get overwhelmed as well! Pets are prone to get out if outdoor events involve the gates and doors to their area. Pets should have a safe space if there are guests over. Dr. RuthAnn Lobos also mentions white noise for pets to keep them calm. The hosts should talk to the guests about having the pets in the area and the importance of having an appropriate interaction with the pet. Make sure the tree is secured. Consider using plastic ornaments instead of glass to prevent breaking. Have the tree in its own safe room or use a baby gate to prevent pets from being around the tree.

Mistletoe and Poinsettias are extremely dangerous to the GI tracts of cats! Lillies are deadly to cats. Most people don't know this! If you cat is exposed to Lillies in any form, drive them directly to the emergency animal hospital IMMEDIATELY!
    Thank You!
A big thank you to our guests, Maura Davies and Dr. RuthAnn Lobos of Castor & Pollux Pet! To donate to the SPCA Texas, Click Here. Every little amount makes such a difference!

  • #1381, Beth Reeder Johnson, Dewone Bennett

    Happy Thursday!
We have a great show in store for you today! At the half we have season Licensed Professional Councilor, Dewone Bennett! But before we get to Dewone, we have another amazing councilor Beth Reeder Johnson! Let's get started with Beth Reeder Johnson talking about fear and shame!
    Beth Reeder Johnson

Beth is a licensed Psychiatric Social Worker and Individual, Family and Couples Therapist with over 14 years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families.

Fear & Shame: Uncovering the Ways They Hold Us Back
Whether we like it or not, we are still a product of what was created when we were growing up! If you were told a negative message as a child, that message can still resonate with you as an adult. You get to choose whether you believe what others tell you. You are in control of your own story and your own narrative! The people that have the hardest time moving on from negative self talk are the ones who have a serious trauma that they need to work through, so it is deep seeded. Fear is based in shame.

Bernadette and Beth agree that children, even if they are adults, should forgive their parents for their past mistakes. Your parents probably patently you just like their parents did. Believe it or not, journaling will be your best bet for releasing yourself from the past. Once you learn to shift your thoughts, you will grow. As long as you are seeing your thoughts and coming up with that new story for yourself, you can grow and get better. If you are finding this impossible, you may need to see a therapist for further counseling.
    Dewone Bennett
Dewone Bennett is a Licensed Professional Counselor with two masters degrees and over 12 years of counseling experience. He currently has his own practice, Dewone Bennett Counseling in Dallas, TX. He believes that the key to mental and behavioral success is the ability to master self-awareness and emotional control.
    Managing Seasonal Affective Disorder
Seasonal affective disorder is a mood disorder characterized by depression that occurs at the same time every year. Seasonal affective disorder occurs in climates where there is less sunlight at certain times of the year. Symptoms include fatigue, depression, hopelessness, and social withdrawal. There can also be less sleep or more sleep in your life. How sad! Also, when we are sad we eat fattier, more carbo loaded foods that make us gain weight, and that makes us upset too! If can vary as to why S.A.D only affects some people and not others. If you are deficient in some chemicals already, S.A.D may get you more.

  • #1380, Tina Bernet Allen, Matt Peale

    Happy Wednesday!
Junior and Bernadette talk about seasonal effectiveness disorder! Dallas is a little gloomy today, so it is trying to affect our energies, but we won't let it! We are going to pour positivity through your speakers today! We have a great show today with Matt Peale on at the half! But first up, we have fitness expert Tina Bernet Allen on talking about maintaining your health through the holidays! So let's get started!
    Tina Bernet Allen
Tina Bernet has a Bachelor’s of Kinesiology, she is a certified strength and conditioning specialist, she is certified in biomechanics, and she is part of the Aerobics & Fitness Association of America. She has been in the fitness industry for over 30 years, teaching cardiovascular classes at several of Dallas’ top studios and health clubs, as well as instructing and developing resistance training programs for individuals and groups in the gym and in the home. She has also been named the “Top Female Personal Trainer in DFW” by the Personal Trainers Hall of Fame.
How to Maintain Your Health & Wellness During A Pandemic & Holiday Season
Try to Exercise at least 3-4 days a week and just keep active! Weight training is most important, but any kind of exercise or activity is beneficial! Consistency is the key. Focus on consistency in a healthy nutrition plan while allowing yourself to still enjoy the occasional holiday “festivities.” Make sure you’re getting plenty of sleep and sleep in a cold environment. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water and staying hydrated. Take leisurely walks or cycle outdoors. If you have lost your motivation to exercise and eat healthy because of the stress of the pandemic and/or the holidays, believe that a little change can lead to more change and get you back on track.
    Matt Peale
Matt is a certified Corrective Exercise Specialist and Certified Personal Trainer in his home state of Louisiana, he co-founded Movement Academy; developing a PE curriculum and exercise program for seniors. He also hosted the Boomers Lifestyle Network Health & Fitness Show on the New Orleans Talk Network. He is the author of The Athlete In The Game Of Life: Stretch, Strengthen, Live, And Thrive.
Is Working From Home Giving You Chronic Pain?
Working from home is giving us chronic pain! When we are working at our computers or phones for long periods of time, we hunch our backs and create tension headaches too! While we are talking about working from home, we cant forget students right now too! Many colleges around the country have started school all online via zoom classrooms, making students sit at their computers even more than they did when class was in person! We need to stop sitting around and get up and move! It is super crucial for older people who are already susceptible to falling and muscle atrophy to get up and move.

Your kinetic checkpoints are just another name for your joints! Start with your knees and your ankles. If you have tightness in your knees, now, when you do a squat, you are put into a dangerous position! Check in with your body whenever you start to feel pain. You body will tell you all the answers you need.
    Thank You!

    Happy Monday!
Everyone had a great holiday, but everyone here at Team One Life Radio is ready to get back to spreading positivity over the airwaves! We have a great show in store for you today! At the half we have Author Sharon St. John discussing her book, "Me, Myself, and Men." First up, we have Logan Shiels with our Monday beauty segment, so let's get started!
    Logan Shiels
Logan Shiels is an Oklahoma girl that has planted her roots in Dallas. She has immersed herself in all things beauty and fashion. Logan is currently a specialist stylist at ERA salon, and is also the co-founder of Uncommon Man alongside her husband Kyle Shiels. She loves getting active, not only in fitness but in her community as well through philanthropy. No matter the day, she’s ready to hustle.
    Gua-Sha, Body Brushing, Body Painting
Gua-sha or kerokan, is part of traditional Chinese medicine in which a tool is used to scrape people's skin in order to produce light petechiae. This helps with lymphatic drainage! Gua-sha is a natural, alternative therapy that involves scraping your skin with a massage tool to improve your circulation. Use the massage tool to up the body towards the heart, and then back down the body. Dry brushing is also an effective way to invigorate your skin! To dry brush, you use a natural-bristle brush to gently but firmly brush your skin in long strokes toward your heart, usually going over each area two or three times. At your belly, you brush in a clockwise motion. Dry brushing is typically done before showering, and should be followed with a vitamin-rich moisturizer or your oil regiment!
    Sharon St. John
Sharon St. John is the author of the memoir Me, Myself and Men, a memoir in which she explores her personal self-esteem struggles and how they have affected her relationships with men. She believes that low self-esteem is like being trapped in your own mental prison, and hopes her story can help others to recognize and work through their own self-esteem issues. She has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from St. John’s University, and has worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons for 20 years.
    Me, Myself, and Men
Sharon thinks that when people are born, comparisons immediately start. When you start comparing yourself to other people, that is the first mistake you can make. Sharon had a very rough upbringing, when her mother put her into foster care, and then tried to get her back after a long time. Abandonment can effect everyone differently, but for Sharon, she had to become comfortable with herself in order to get over her abandonment issues. While jogging, Sharon's mind ran through what she heard people ay about her, and she came to the conclusion to that she has to be okay with herself at the end of the day. You can not control the past, but you can control yourself and where you are in the moment.

Because Sharon didn't use to love herself, she found herself settling for anything. Toxic relationships made her stay in situations that she found herself in, all because she felt she wasn't good enough. When Sharon realized how amazing and special she was and is, she discovered that she deserved more!

  • #1377, Jonny Bowden, Jen Myers, Nutrigenomics

    Happy Wednesday!
We are so ready for the Thanksgiving break! No matter what your plans, we hope everyone stays safe and has fun with family and friends! Don’t forget Shop Small Saturday! We need to support small businesses in our neighborhoods! At the half, we have Dr. Jen Myers from Sunwarrior on, so get excited! First up we have Dr. Jonny Bowden up talking about  the credibility of research studies we see on the news, so let's get started!
    Jonny Bowden
Dr. Jonny earned six certifications in personal training and fitness. Jonny Bowden is known as The Nutrition Myth Buster and is a nationally known expert on weight loss and health. He is the best-selling author of 15 books, including “The Great Cholesterol Myth” and “The Most Effective Ways to Live Longer.” He has a Masters degree in psychology, a PhD in holistic nutrition, and is board certified by the American College of Nutrition. His books include “Living Low Carb,” “Smart Fat,” “The Great Cholesterol Myth” and “The 150 Healthiest Foods On Earth.”
Credibility Of Research Studies We See On The News
We’re talking with Dr. Jonny Bowden today about the credibility of the research studies we see constantly in the news. It seems every health article cites a study like “Bacon causes heart disease” or the numerous studies on COVID. How do we know what to believe? Dr. Bowden heard a study on the news this morning, “It’s safer to fly on airplanes than go to the grocery store.” The study was done by the airlines! It doesn’t mean that it’s not valid, but they do have something to gain. When you pay for a study, you’re 5Xs likely to get the results you want.

You want to look at the study and who did it. Were there phases to the study, i.e. Phase one, two & three? How many people participated? The vast majority of drug studies are done by Big Pharma. Studies are like diamonds, some are fake, some real. Have a healthy skepticism when looking at these studies and do your own research. Also, listen to the podcast to hear what Dr. Bowden has to say about holiday eating! It’s great advice and something you can use every day!
    Jen Myers
Dr. Jen Myers is a Doctor of Natural Medicine, Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine and a Certified Genomics/Nutrigenetic Specialist. She is the Chief Genomics Officer and Master Formulator on two Scientific Advisory Boards focused on DNA-based supplementation. Myers instructs Physicians and Practitioners how to implement Nutrigenomics into their practices to provide a more personalized approach. She is also a formulator for Sunwarrior plant-based proteins and has published a number of articles on their behalf.
    Sunwarrior and Nutrigenomics
Dr. Jen Myers talks about Nutrigenomic Testing. It’s a way to look at our cells and genes and find out if we have any glitches in our DNA that may cause us to have issues with nutrition and weight. It looks at your nutritional pathways. Do you utilize nutrients effectively? She says that more than 75% have a significant genetic issue with nutritional pathways and converting certain nutrients. For instance, some can’t absorb folic acid normally, and we need that for our “gasoline” to run our system.

Dr. Myers says don’t wait until you have a health issue to take a nutrigenomics test. Would you wait for your car to run out of oil? Everyone should have this test to know which vitamins to take. The number one reason people use supplements is to feel better. What if you could know exactly what your body needed? It’s just a cheek swab to get the results.
    Thank You!

In the category of alternative health, OLR places #232! How interesting! We have a great show for you all today with Mory Fontanez on at half, so stick around! First up we have Susan Burrowes discussing managing seasonal affective disorder, so let's get started!
    Susan Burrowes
Susan Burrowes is a presenter, teacher, trainer and project manager who holds a Master’s Degree in Communication. Mory took enough time out of her studies to produce the two extraordinary, challenging, terrible, wonderful children who continue to define her life. An award winning author, Susan’s day jobs span fifteen years in advertising, eight years teaching in the college classroom and another ten years training professionals in organizations how to communicate with each other, an irony that was not lost on her as she struggled to reach her addicted daughter. Susan currently works with a team of high achieving young adults in Admissions at the University of California Santa Cruz, where she ponders the question of teen success on a daily basis. She writes about the strength and determination of troubled teens and special needs children.
    "Off The Rails"
Susan's story was unexpected for her, but typical for many others. Susan started to slowly notice changes in her 10th grade daughter. After misdiagnosis after misdiagnosis, finally, Susan's daughter went to an 18 month wilderness program to regain her health and wellness. The worst sign for Susan's daughter was not the drug use and the sneaking out, but the bloody bandages in the bathroom that were due to self harm. If you see your child cutting, take them to a mental health specialist immediately. Television and movies often glamorize cutting or self harm, but it is quite the opposite. It is silent pain. A scream for help. Don't let stigma stop you or your family from getting help. Don't shy away from group therapy, or therapy as a whole.

Why Operating from Abundance Instead of Fear is Crucial for Your Career
When you work from fear, you limit yourself and your ability to flourish! Abundance simply means that there is more than enough for everything. Money, solutions, time, understanding that there are many routes to find a solution, that is abundance. Where are the areas in your career that you have hit a wall? Is your feeling of hitting a wall fear or reality? Give yourself unconditional love! Once you put good energy out there, you'll get good energy back. The first thing you'll notice is new doors and opportunities opening for you that you didn't expect! See criticism for what it is, but don't allow others to pull you into their hurricane. Look at gratitude around you! Understand what joy feels like to you so you can attribute gratitude with it.
