  • Getting Back in Shape, The World Peace Diet

Another awesome show today One Life Radio listeners - Cody Myler is here to prepare us for that first time back in the gym. And Dr. Will Tuttle, author of The World Peace Diet, is here to update us on his mission to open people's minds about where their food comes from, potentially leading them to rethink their food choices.
Getting Back Into a Workout Routine after Quarantine
Cody Myler, also known as the Keto Cowboy, is here to tell us all is not lost if we've been slacking on our workout routines under quarantine. Don't feel bad if you have, because you are not alone. I'm a little bummed that my government-mandated party-of-one on my sofa is over. Myler has tips to keep the first workout from being as painful as we may think it's going to be. To avoid injury and excessive soreness, Myler suggests starting slowly, easing into the old routine. Start with 75 percent of your old weight and do higher reps. You should be back to your regular routine within two weeks.

He also has some good news and bad news. Let's start with bad and get it over with. We lose 10-15% of our muscle mass when we stop working out for as little as two weeks. Ready for the good news? If you've always been pretty active, you’ve built up muscle memory. Myler explains that our bodies remember the muscles we amassed prior to our break, so we get in shape faster than someone who has never worked out.

Myler says to not let the first time back in the gym make you nervous. Take it slow, listen to your body and ask for help if you need it. And, CONGRATS for getting back in the gym! For more tips, follow Cody  @myler_flex or @NXTRepFitness.
    The World Peace Diet
We’re very excited to catch up with Dr. Will Tuttle, the author of the #1 Amazon best-selling book The World Peace Diet, as well as his most recent book, Your Inner Islands: The Keys to Intuitive Living. He is a former Zen monk and Dharma Master in the Zen tradition.

His main message or wish with the World Peace Diet is for everyone to just question the practice of imprisoning and killing animals for our protein and nutrients. We can get everything we need to live from plants. Dr. Tuttle believes that if we start to spread a positive message to stop harming living beings, it will lead to world peace. When we think of the importance of what we eat, we should consider the importance not just for ourselves, but for the planet.

We would never want anyone to touch or harm our pet.Why would anyone let millions of animals be abused on a daily basis? Our society has disconnected from where our food actually comes from, and  have turned a blind-eye to the atrocities happening in factory farms. We are all created from the same source. Let’s treat each other with love and kindness, animals included.

We will continue the conversation around The World Peace Diet with Dr. Tuttle on June 3rd, so mark your calendar and tune in. You can also learn more about Dr. Tuttle at worldpeacediet.com or circleofcompassion.org.

  • Hydroxychloroquine (cont.), Money Blocks

Hello One Life Radio listeners! We have Dr. Steven Schwartz back today to finish our conversation regarding COVID-19 and Hydroxychloroquine. And, our long-time friend, Jaime-Lee Fraser explains why we have such a love/hate relationship with money.
Hydroxychloroquine - Friend or Foe? (cont. from Tuesday)
Dr. Schwartz agreed to join us again today to finish our discussion on Hydroxychloroquine. Dr. Steven Schwartz is a recognized physician, researcher, inventor and entrepreneur. He is currently the day hospitalist at a U.S. military hospital in the Midwest (we can't say the name for security reasons which is super cool, in my opinion!). As the chief Medical Officer of Flutrends International, he's patented two holistic health formulations made to combat multiple strains of influenza, the common cold and allergies – FluNada and Air-Vita. He also served on a board of physicians studying pandemics.

Recently, the World Health Organization suspended a research trial on Hydroxychloroquine because of potentially fatal side-effects. Dr. Schwartz has extensive knowledge of the drug and says that, if taken properly, Hydroxychloroquine can be effective as a preventative for Corona and/or COVID-19. It can also work as a treatment, but only in the early stages of the virus, and depending on the pre-existing conditions of the patient.

We asked Dr. Schwartz about his product, Flunada, and if it works to prevent or treat COVID-19. He says that Flunada may protect people from Corona and/or COVID because it works for most cold viruses. He is currently looking for a research site to test Flunada specifically for COVID-19 and will keep us posted.

Dr. Schwartz believes we need to be cautious because COVID-19 will most likely surge again in the fall. His advice to stay healthy? Keep wearing your mask. If you're showing symptoms, do not take ibuprofen. Instead opt for acetaminophen. And, HYDRATE. Gargling has shown to reduce the spreading of viruses as well. Use salt water and lemon, and if you’re over 18, add a shot of vodka or whisky. Who knew Corona prevention could be so much fun! Learn more about Dr. Schwartz at STSHealth.com or on his One Life Radio guest expert page.
Money Blocks - Ways to Have a Better Relationship with Money.
We all think about money too much and we wanted to know why. So, we couldn't find a better expert to ask than Jaime-Lee Fraser. Fraser is a bombing attack survivor turned serial entrepreneur and motivational speaker. (Seriously, she survived a bombing attack. Not many people can say that.) She has a Mastery in Neuro Linguistic Programming supporting elite human performance and mindset. She currently helps a select number of entrepreneurs build their personal brands and achieve A-list goals.

As the previous owner of a wealth management company, Fraser studied human behavior around money. Most of us believe that intelligence is the key to making smart money decisions. Fraser says it doesn't matter how smart we are. She learned that buying decisions are made on emotion, not acumen.

We've all heard the phrases  “Money is the root of all evil” and "Money doesn’t grow on trees.” These are actually beliefs that Fraser explains shaped our mindsets about money early in life. For instance, many of us grew up thinking that to make money we had to work hard. Or, we grew up believing that our worth was tied to how much money we made. These beliefs create unnecessary stress in our lives.  Fraser says that 72% of couples say they fight over money. To those who grew up with these belief systems, it’s all about survival, and money is survival.

Fraser says the key to having a positive relationship with money is to be self-aware.  Money makes us feel safe and feel good when we have it. But,

  • Just Salad Reusable Program, Hydroxychloroquine

We hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend! Today, we've got Sandra Noonan, Chief Sustainability Officer at Just Salad, telling us how they created the world's largest restaurant reusable program. And, Dr. Steve Schwartz of STS Health is here to help us navigate through all of the advice and misinformation regarding protecting ourselves in public after quarantine.
    Just Salad Reusable Program
Sandra Noonan is the Chief Sustainability Officer at Just Salad, the fast-casual concept serving healthy food at an affordable price and home of the World’s Largest Restaurant Reusable program. Noonan founded ZeroWasteNYC and is a strong advocate for zero-waste living.

Noonan says their Reusable Bowl program was born from a simple flash of incite by the Just Salad CEO while building out the concept. His "aha" moment was realizing that disposable containers aren't required to have a fast-casual restaurant. Through his imagination and innovation the program was born and is the center of their mission today. The bowls only cost a dollar, and every time a guest brings theirs in they get a free topping. About 20% of patrons are using the program, and it's growing every day. Noonan estimates they divert 100,000 pounds of single-use plastic from landfills annually.

The restaurant is modeled after Zero-Waste living. Zero waste is a movement of people around the world who try to send as little waste to our landfills as possible. For example, we all know to bring our own grocery bag to the store. But, try bringing your own cotton produce bags. You'll save even more plastic from the landfill. To learn other ways to cut waste visit Zero Waste NYC. For more information and locations of Just Salad, visit justsalad.com, or follow them on instagram @justsalad.

And, One Life Radio listeners get $5 off their next Just Salad online order!  Just go to orderjustsalad.com  and use the code ONELIFE5 at checkout between now and June 30th, 2020.
    Safety in Public after Quarantine
Next, we talk with Dr. Steven Schwartz regarding the controversy over Hydroxycloroquine. He also gives us suggestions for staying safe going out in public after quarantine. Dr. Schwartz says that we still have to use common sense when it comes to visiting public places. He believes wearing a mask is the most important preventative measure we can take.  Then N-95 mask works the best, according to Dr. Schwartz. He says the six-feet rule is only effective if everyone is wearing a mask, because the virus is airborne.

Also, wear gloves when using the credit card machine, putting gas in your car, opening doors at retail and restaurant establishments and anything else high-traffic.

Dr. Schwartz believes that when taken properly, Hydroxycloroquine is a safe preventative measure for Corona and COVID-19. The recent reports regarding the dangers have more to do with the health of the person taking the drug, and how it is administered. We only were able to touch on this subject, so Dr. Schwartz has agreed to come back on for the opening of tomorrow's show to expand on the topic.
    Thank you!

  • Adaptability & Malleability, Energy Vibrations

Thanks for listening to another great episode of One Life Radio! Today we're joined by Mo Brossette of The Adaptive Training Foundation discussing adaptability and malleability, and Robin Perry Braun tells us how to get our energy and vibrations in check.
    Adaptability and Malleability
Mo Brossette is here to tell us about adaptability and the importance of being mentally malleable.  Brossette has been in the health and fitness industry for over 24 years, and he is currently the Director of Mindset and Nutrition at The Adaptive Training Foundation. The Adaptive Training Foundation is a Dallas based non-profit that leads disabled military veterans and civilians through a 9-week mental and physical training program called “Redefine”. Through this unique program, Mo helps these adaptive athletes overcome physical, emotional and mental pain, fear, and self-doubt.

Brossette says it’s OK to struggle, but you don’t have to suffer. Mo has gone through hard times, but he lived off the belief that "this too shall pass", and with this belief he knew he'd come out from under his struggle.

Mo says we’re oversensitized to people who disagree with us. We need to agree to disagree and move on. That's not to say that we shouldn't be open to others opinions.  While many issues today such as wearing masks during COVID and vaccines for children are contentious, everyone should be open to let other people have opinions and ideas. We can offer our opinions, but it’s ultimately up to each person to make their own choices.

People must be adaptable, or they will be stuck. Mo tells a story about a veteran who was told he would never walk again when he came to the Adaptive Training Foundation. You’ll want to listen to the full interview to hear the amazing and inspirational outcome.

The moral of this story? Always be learning something new and keep an open mind. This will help you mentally, physically and spiritually. Learn more about Mo and the Adaptive Training Foundation on instagram @brossette_performance_coaching or learn more on his website.
    Good Vibrations
Robin Perry Braun is next discussing vibrations and energy. She says we live our lives on autopilot most of the time. But, when we encounter a detour, we have to pay attention to things we didn’t notice otherwise. These detours are an opportunity to do something different from our normal "autopilot" path, positive or negative. Braun talks about going on vacation as a great way to practice getting out of autopilot mode. It's a great way to reset, even though it may take a few days to actually “let down” and experience a slower and more relaxed pace.

Robin goes on to explain our “energy” and how it works in our lives. We’re all made up of atoms. All atoms vibrate, but at different frequencies. People around us pick up on our atom vibrations. Depending on someone's mood, their energy can affect an entire room. Other people sense the vibrations, and vice versa. Adaptability and malleability play into this concept. We've all heard the term "He/she totally killed the vibe of the room."? Braun says that it's possible to find the source of negative vibrations and release them. She goes on to say how it's also possible to increase positive vibrations, resulting in a personal higher frequency.

Listen to the full interview to hear Braun discuss a study proving that collective frequencies working in unison have enough power to change the world! Learn more about Robin Perry Braun on her website.

  • Learn to Plank, Dangers of 5G

Hello everyone! It's National Bee Day, so Bernadette says to take care of the bees. We need them! Today Tina Bernet Allen discusses the joys of planking, and Zen Honeycutt from Moms Across America tells us how to fight back against 5G.
    Learn the Proper Plank
Tina Bernet-Allen is teaching us to plank today! Planking is a key core-strengthening exercise. We all remember the “plank” challenges a few years ago, but that’s not what we’re talking about today.

The general definition of a plank is lying face-down on the floor then lifting yourself up with your elbows and toes, using your core to keep straight. Bernet-Allen says planking works much better to build your core and tone your abs than sit-ups.

There is a right way and a wrong way to do a plank. Your hips, shoulders and feet should be lined up. Avoid rounding your upper back or lifting your butt. Pull your shoulder blades together toward your spine. Also, keep your weight evenly distributed. Also, hold your plank for a minute or two only. If you can do a plank for more than a minute, you can progress the exercise by lifting a leg one at a time. You can also alternate arms holding them out to your side.
    Fighting Back Against 5G
Next we have Zen Honeycutt, the Director of Moms Across America, talking about 5G. Zen says these networks can be extremely dangerous, causing diseases in children, reproductive issues, cancer and even fires in some communities. Another concern with 5G is that it’s being used to download all of our personal information. Listen to the full interview to hear her example. It will scare you into action.

Honeycutt says the FCC isn't fully testing the 5G networks, but rather fast-tracking the process. But, Honeycutt says the advertising we’re seeing for 5G is misleading, and there’s still time to stop 5G. Email your city commissioner or city hall and ask for the applications for "small cell wireless telecommunication facilities" going up in your community. If  there are applications in your area, you can go to Moms Across America's website for flyer templates to pass out to your neighbors. The applications will have to go through an approval process with city commissioners and the public can attend. It's up to us to stop 5G, because the government wants it to happen now.

Listen and subscribe to the One Life Radio podcast to learn what Honeycutt uses to stop RMF exposure in her household.

  • Well Being Journal, Keto & MCTs
Today we are joined by Scott Miners, the founder and editor of the Well Being Journal, and Shawn Wells, Keto expert and the World's Greatest Formulator.
Inside Look at the Summer Issue of the Well Being Journal
Scott and the Well Being Journal have been long-time partners of One Life Radio. Miners and his team recently made the decision to  publish  quarterly, and we have a first glance into the summer issue. Here are Scott's top picks:

Love and Immunity: It’s an Inside Job, by Shannon McRae, PhD. - Bernadette and Scott talk about the basis of this article, making yourself vulnerable and able to receive love. The more open you are, the more love you give and receive. You must FEEL your love for yourself before you can truly love others. If you seek love and acceptance from outside sources, you’ll always be looking.

Next, How Our Thoughts Control Our DNA - by Bruce Lipton, PhD. This article is a culmination of three articles. Lipton writes that what we think and feel, our genetic make-up is listening. When we're nervous about something, real or perceived, our bodies go into fight or flight mode. This state of being compromises our immune system. Miners says we need to always be conscious of our thinking. In other words, “Think about Thinking”.

Third on the list is Parenting Your Body by Melissa Milne, LMT, CPT. Milne writes about sitting and the effect on our bodies. Sitting for a long time can affect our joints and muscles, especially ham strings.

The Healing Power of Silence and Solitude by Susan Smith Jones, PhD. We all need to take time for ourselves regularly, but in silence. Shut all the noise off and relax. Go in a closet, if you have to. Find space for silence and solitude and take a few minutes to regroup.

Last on the list, Release Your “Shoulds” by Samantha Acton. This is an excerpt from her book regarding how we use “shoulds” too often. Try “can” or “can’t" and be decisive.

Read these articles and much more in the Summer edition of the Well Being Journal. You can find them at Sprouts, Whole Foods and Natural Grocer. And, if you're a first-time reader, you can get a free sample issue on their site.
    Keto, the Media and MCTs
Shawn Wells joins us next. He is a long-time guest of the show and is an expert in the fields of performance nutrition, longevity, fitness and supplementation. He's an unbelievable wealth of knowledge. Today we’re talking about Keto, MCTs and the media pushback on the Keto diet during COVID-19.  Wells says many of the news stories about the virus are false, even from mainstream media. Wells goes on to say that the articles regarding a Keto diet being dangerous during COVID-19 are false as well, either citing wrong food combinations, ratios or using bad fats. He says to research on our own so you can make informed decisions about your health.

On to MCTs. Fats are the number one food source in a Keto diet plan.  The type of fat is imperative in a successful Keto diet plan. MCTs are a type of fat used often when starting a Keto regimen due to quick absorption. Because our bodies are used to using carbs for energy,  introducing fats and essentially deleting carbs can result in the “Keto flu”, in other words, feeling sluggish and tired while your body adjusts. Using MCTs can help your body adapt more quickly to using fat as fuel.

MCTs naturally create ketones, so they are good for anyone, not just those on a Keto diet. MCTs actually suppress your glucose levels and burn fat. Wells recommends trying them in your morning coffee to feel clear and energetic throughout the day.

  • Ned Immunity Blend, TRACE Bill

Ret Taylor, cofounder of Ned Full-Spectrum Hemp Oils, discusses how they give back with the new limited-release Ned Immunity Blend. We love Ned products and are so grateful to have them as a sponsor of One Life Radio.  And, Mary Holland of Children's Health Defense joins us talking about the TRACE Bill.
    Ned Immunity Blend
Ret's passion for natural remedies and his work with several different environmental groups over the past 15 years came together to build Ned Full Spectrum Hemp Oils with his co-founder Adriaan Zimmerman.

Today we learn about their limited-release Immunity Blend, a mix of botanicals, herbs and fungi designed to work in unison with the full line of Ned Hemp products. The first batch already sold out, but he let us know another one is being released any day now.

And, Ned Immunity Blend is not only good for you, it's good for the planet! The team at Ned donates 100% of Ned Immunity Blend proceeds to the EcoHealth Alliance, a global nonprofit leading scientific research into the critical connections between human, animal and environmental health.. Taylor and his team found the group as members of 1% of the Planet, a non-profit alliance giving back to environmental efforts. The group began in 2002 with Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies.  Their efforts have blossomed into a global movement. Learn how to get involved with 1% of the Planet here.  And go to helloned.com for the full line of Ned products and use the code OLR at checkout for 15% off your purchase! Follow Ned on instagram @meetned.
    TRACE Bill
Mary Holland talks about the new TRACE bill. According to Holland, this bill allows officials to enter people’s homes to test for COVID-19 without a search warrant. She says it creates a kind of medical "police" system.  The bill focuses on hot spots and medically underserved communities. If the household doesn’t have more than one bathroom, which many don't in poorer areas, the bill allows the medical representatives to forcefully quarantine an individual away from their home.

Bernadette and Holland go on to discuss positive results from alternative health regimens for COVID-19, such as Vitamin D. Vitamin D is found to be key in lessening the severity of COVID-19 symptoms. Those with a deficiency may suffer harsher symptoms than those taking the optimum amounts of Vitamin D.

The bill is now in the house and Holland doesn’t see it making it through the senate. Regardless, Holland says it's imperative that the public be aware of these types of bills. We need to protect our freedom as Americans.
    Thank You
Thanks to Ret Taylor of Ned and Mary Holland of Children's Health Defense for coming on the show today. And, thank you to our wonderful listeners and our amazing sponsors.

  • COVID-19 Puppy Scams, “Fixing” Ourselves

Happy Friday! Maura Davies from the SPCA of North Texas is here for Furry Friday, sponsored by Ned Full Spectrum Hemp Oil. It’s so pure, you can use it for yourself and your furry friends. And, if you use the code OLR at checkout, you get 15% off! Also joining us is the Unbreakable Man, Sam Morris, breaks down the idea of "fixing" ourselves. What do we need to fix?
    COVID-19 Puppy Scams
Davies warns us against a recent surge of puppy scams during COVID-19. Beware of ads you find in the newspaper or in the mail. Many of these are scam artists who are just trying to get you to send them money. Sadly, your pet never arrives. The best way to avoid these scams? ADOPT! Visit spca.org and find your next furry friend. They will be forever grateful and you will feel great knowing you saved a life.
"Fixing" Ourselves - Good or Bad?
Next, Sam Morris explains why “fixing” ourselves may be stopping us from living our best life. When we fix ourselves, we’re in the mindset that we’re broken. This is never the case.

The mindset that we’re broken starts at childhood. Our teachers graded us on what we got wrong, not right. So, we began to grade ourselves internally, leading to a drive to fix what we thought was wrong about ourselves.

Morris isn't saying that self improvement is bad. Think of it as improving or enhancing, instead of fixing. The key is learning to love ourselves as we are. When we love ourselves, it's easier to be disciplined in regard to our health and well-being.

Morris recommends the book, "Love Yourself Like your Life Depends Upon it" by Kamal Ravikant as a great read on self-love. Listen to the entire interview for more from Sam Morris, or visit his website.

  • COVID-19 Vaccine, Dr. Al’s Cancer Fight

We have an amazing show today with a COVID-19 vaccine update from Texans for Vaccine Choice, and a wonderful report from Dr. Al Danenberg regarding his latest PET scan.
Update on a COVID-19 Vaccine in Texas
Here is a recap of our discussion with Jackie Schlegel of Texans for Vaccine Choice.

Can you tell us about your recent letter to Governor Abbott?

In his April 17 press conference, Gov. Abbott mentioned several times that Texas would not get back to normal until the vaccine was available. He emphasized testing, alluding to the possibility that testing results might be needed in order to return back into society. Our letter asked him to clarify 2 of his positions:

    * A negative COVID-19 test will not be required for Texans to return to work and other activities.
    * The state will not mandate that any Texas residents receive a COVID-19 vaccine as a condition to return to work, maintain/obtain employment, attend school or childcare, or access state services.

According to Schlegel, although Texas has a strong history of honoring its citizens' right to make medical decisions without government intrusion, we are seeing an unfortunate trend of policy makers cross lines and take uncharacteristic actions. It is this trend, combined with his remarks, that have many Texans concerned over the policies the state may enact regarding COVID-19 testing and vaccination.

Abbott has scaled back his vaccine rhetoric since the letter. But at the same time, he has not taken a strong stance clarifying his position.

Schlegel says the most important call-to-action any of us can do is to take responsibility for the health and wellness of ourselves and our family. No matter what your stance is on vaccines, it’s our rights as Texans and as humans to decide what we do for our health.

Listen to the entire interview, or visit the Texans for Vaccine Choice website for more information.
    Dr. Al Danenberg Beats Cancer...Maybe?
Next we have a wonderful update from Dr. Al Danenberg. We've been with him during a 21-month long fight with bone marrow cancer. He's on today to tell us about his most recent PET scan and the news that he is clear of cancer!

His story is truly inspirational for those with cancer, their loved ones and really anyone who wants to live a healthy lifestyle. He tells us about the ups and downs, how he decided on his treatment and much more.

Dr. Danenberg has offered to send his treatment protocol to interested listeners. Just email [email protected] with “Dr. Al’s Protocol” in the header and we’ll send it to you. You can also visit his website for more information, or go to his bio page on our website.

  • Quarantine Weight-Gain, Defense Mechanisms

Today we talk with Tina Bernet-Allen about weight gain during quarantine, and DeWone Bennett explains defense mechanisms.
    Weight Gain Under Quarantine
Tina Bernet Allen talks about weight gain during quarantine. You may have heard about gaining the “COVID-15”, similar to the “freshmen 15”. Bernet sites an article by Brittney Risher on the MyFitnessPal blog. Risher writes that shaming someone or ourselves for gaining weight under quarantine may be harmful. If you suffer from food or body issues, the stress and anxiety from quarantine will affect you differently. For example, if you had a gym routine before, you may not want to work out at home at all.  If your meals are planned around work, you may have a tendency to overeat under quarantine.

Bernet-Allen said now is not the time to worry about your weight. Try to avoid the social media posts around weight and exercise to avoid comparing.  Bernet Allen says that plate of spaghetti or a few cookies is OK. This is a strange time for everyone in the world, and we’re all having the same feelings. Staying safe should be our top priority. If you’re feeling bad, try to find ways to get out of your head besides social media or the news. Read a book, volunteer, try fixing something around your house that's been bothering you. We will get through this.  Follow Tina Bernet-Allen on instagram @tbfitnesspro. You can also read the full article from Brittney Risher here.
Defense Mechanisms - Helpful or Harmful?
DeWone Bennett discusses defense mechanisms. Defense mechanisms are a way for us to deal with guilt or upset. One of the most common defense mechanisms is denial.  Disassociation is another one. When you’re in an unpleasant situation, you may take your mind somewhere else rather than experience the trauma. These are primitive reactions, meaning we’re all born with them.

Bennett says that we may not always realize when we are using defense mechanisms until someone points them out. There are many defense mechanisms we may use in our relationships. Projection is when we assume how other people feel about us, and so we decide we feel the same way about them. For instance, if you're  feeling lazy in a relationship, you may blame your partner for being lazy. Compensation can be a negative or a positive defense mechanism. Sublimation, when you replace a negative situation with a positive one, is looked upon as a positive defense mechanism. Learn more about the types of defense mechanisms here. You can also contact DeWone Bennett at Preston Place Counseling for more information or to set up an appointment.
