His book explains how inflammation is at the core of most common health woes and exists on a continuum: from mild symptoms such as weight gain and fatigue on one end, to hormone imbalance and autoimmune conditions on the other. Physiologically, inflammation is a natural bodily process. But the problem is when it gets out of control or chronic.

The foods we eat directly impact how our inflammatory response activates. And, every person is different. This makes pinpointing what your triggers are a little bit of a process. Listen in to hear what Dr. Cole has to say about this and get his book here.

  • Adrianna Stephenson – Brain Tumor Parent #1184

Today we talk with Adrianna Stephenson about her story of being a brain tumor parent. Her and Shawn Wells talk about how the Ketogenic diet is working miracles in her home and in the lives of so many.
Brain Tumor Parent with Adrianna Stephenson & Shawn Wells
Adrianna Stephenson is a brain tumor parent, ketogenic diet advocate, and real food crusader. Her now 5 year old son, Parker, is a brain tumor survivor. At the age of 19 months, Adrianna noticed her son being a bit more wobbly on his toes and having trouble gripping with his right hand. Her mama instinct told her, something is not right. She took Parker to his pediatrician who then recommended they go see a neurologist. It was then that her life as she knew it, would change forever.

After being diagnosed with a very large brain tumor, Adrianna and her son Parker were helpless at the hands of the doctors. They performed surgery, and began chemotherapy. Adrianna started researching to find out why this had happened to her son and how she could help him heal, from home. She came across the ketogenic diet and thought to herself, why not. After 3 months of being on the ketogenic diet, coupled with chemotherapy, Parker's tumor was down 30 percent! She then knew that the ultimate power of healing her son was going to be the food.

Feeding a young child a specific diet sounds difficult. Kids are picky eaters, if they even eat much at all. But, for Adrianna and Parker, making the switch to keto was not that difficult. She talks with us about what kinds of foods she prepares for him, along with what the long-term plan is for her son Parker. At Parker's last MRI there was no evidence of disease and he is currently thriving on a ketogenic diet!

Shawn Wells is a registered dietician, certified sports nutritionist, and has been implementing keto in his own life for over 20 years. He and Adrianna talk about how the ketogenic diet works in situations like Parker's.

  • Workout Wednesday & Mindset and Self-Talk #1182

Today we talk with Tina Bernet Allen about the benefits of doing both strength training and cardio. Then we talk with Mo Brossette about mindset and self-talk.
Workout Wednesday with Tina Bernet Allen
Tina Bernet Allen is one of the top personal trainers in the DFW area, and has been in the fitness industry for over 30 years. Most of us believe that a great way to lose weight is by adding in cardio. This is true, to an extent. Cardio is great for getting your heart rate up and building your endurance, but doing cardio on it's own will not give you the weight-loss goals you are most likely looking for. Tina talks with us about a new study that was done where they combined cardio and strength training. The findings show just how important it is to do some sort of strength/weight training. Listen to Tina's segment to hear more about this.
Mindset and Positive Self-Talk with Mo Brossette
Mo Brossette is an expert on human behavior, mindset, movement, and nutrition and has been in the health and fitness industry for 24 years. Today we talk with him about self talk, intention, and negation. A negation is a negative word like: can't, try, maybe, won't, etc. These words set the tone for whatever it is you are talking about.

For example, if you are setting a goal you wouldn't say, "I'm going to try not to eat sugar this week."

Rather you would say, "I'm not going to eat sugar this week."

This makes the goal definitive. You know exactly what you need to do and you have defined your intention. There are a lot of words that we use on a daily basis that might be hindering our full potential. This is a great topic, and it goes right in line with being healthy and exercising regularly as well.

We also talk a little bit about relationships that decide to invite another person into the mix. This is very common in relationships, and DeWone talks about the kinds of questions he asks as a counselor to a couple who are thinking about doing this.

Then we talk about impostor syndrome. If you have never heard of this, here is the definition:
Impostor syndrome (also known as impostor phenomenon, impostorism, fraud syndrome or the impostor experience) is a psychological pattern in which one doubts one's accomplishments and has a persistent internalized fear of being exposed as a "fraud".
According to DeWone, this is more common in women than men. Where does this stem from? Listen in to hear what DeWone has to say about the details of this syndrome.

DeWone talks with us today about learning how to better cope, and still enjoy your vices here and there.
