  • Do You Need Probiotics? The Modern Vegan & Is Your HEC in Check? #1124

    In today's episode we talk with Jared Ramirez about how to know if you need probiotics. Also, Troy Gardner joins us to talk about the Modern Vegan, and Tina Bernet Allen talks about how to know if your HEC is in check.
    Do You Need Probiotics?
    I'll just give you the answer first, yes. Everyone absolutely needs probiotics every day. In today's modern world, there is so much going against us and we are overloaded with toxins. On top of that, we are a very heavily medicated society and our guts are simply out of whack. Things that affect our gut are: processed foods, pollutants in the air, chemicals in our products, and stress. This being paired with prescription medication or antibiotics will put your body into a state of confusion and gut dysfunction.

    Jared Ramirez is the CEO of Enviromedica, a company whose products reflect symbiotic combinations that occur in nature. Today he joins us to talk about the need for probiotics. Our gut is full of micro-organisms, so many in fact that it is still being studied. But, one thing we do know is that a full-spectrum probiotic, like Terraflora, can fight off bad bacteria and strengthen your gut health and gut function. Terraflora is a combination of spore form probiotics and food-based prebiotics. Listen in to hear Jared tell us some of the amazing things that probiotics can do for your overall health.

This is such a good topic as so many people are on hormone therapy replacements. In reality, it could be a metabolic issue that you can pinpoint by some of Tina's tips she gives us.

  • Integrative Gastroenterology & Biological vs Chronological Age #1123

    In today's episode we talk with Dr. Marvin Singh about integrative gastroenterology, and with Jill Lane about biological vs. chronological age.
    Integrative Medicine and Gastroenterology

    Dr. Singh joins us today to talk about the practice of integrative gastroenterology. This type of medicine is much different than conventional gastroenterology because it utilizes things like diet, sleep habits, stress levels, etc. to determine treatment. Integrative medicine is something that is starting to be implemented by doctors all over the country because it is so promising. Dr. Singh tells us how he takes the time to get to know his patients before treating them. By spending time and talking with his patients he understands the bigger picture of why they may be having health concerns. This makes for a great patient-doctor relationship.

    Dr. Marvin Singh is the first physician in California to be Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology in addition to being a Diplomate of the American Board of Integrative Medicine. Dr. Singh was trained by Dr. Andrew Weil, a pioneer in the field of    integrative medicine, at the University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine.

    What's My Age Again?

    * Regular exercise
    * Good nutrition
    * Proper sleep
    * Adequate hydration

    Here are some words from Sally:

    "When it comes to our health, especially the health of our children, we are in the eleventh hour. We are seeing the consequences of three generations of processed food displacing the nutrient-dense foods of our ancestors. The good news is that there is still time to turn things around with a Wise Traditions diet—which is not a fad diet but a diet for everybody—for all times, for all ages. And there is no deprivation—you can have meat, fat, dairy, grains, sauces, salt, even soft drinks and desserts—as long as the ingredients are nutrient-dense and prepared properly."

    The conference is packed full with speakers like Neil Z. Miller, Dr. Nasha Winters, Dr. Thomas Cowan, and many many more intelligent and passionate people. If you like good food and learning new and innovative science to benefit your health, then don't miss this conference!
    Dr. Thomas Cowan: Cancer and the New Biology of Water
    Dr. Thomas Cowan is a founding board member and current Vice President of the Weston A. Price Foundation. He is the author of many books including, Cancer and the New Biology of Water. This book is a groundbreaking look at the role of water in living organisms that ultimately brings us closer to answering the riddle of the etiology of, and therapy and treatment for, cancer.

    Dr. Thomas Cowan will be speaking about the properties of water for cancer treatment at the conference mentioned above. Today he talks with us about some of the science that is mentioned in his book. The passion that fueled Dr. Cowan to write this book is that patients have the right to information, options, and medical freedom in matters of their own life and death. It's an amazing book, and Dr. Thomas Cowan is so well-spoken and knowledgeable. You can get the book and learn more about Dr. Cowan here.

  • Furry Friday, Eating to Maximize your Workout, 5G Impact on Bees #1121

    Today we talk with Marc Peralta from Best Friends Animal Society to give us an update. Cassie Bjork talks about eating to maximize your workout, and Dr. Debra Greene talks about the 5G Network and how it could be impacting our bee population.
    Best Friends Update
    Marc Peralta is the Senior Director of National No-Kill Advancement at Best Friends. He brings together Best Friends’ newest initiatives and aligns all things related to developing the knowledge and capabilities of individuals and organizations involved in lifesaving in order to empower them to achieve no-kill in their own backyard.

    Today he gives us an update on some of the numbers and statistics of animals being euthanized since Best Friends' launched their initiatives. He also talks about adopting or fostering a senior pet. Older pets are actually easier than puppies or younger dogs. These pets are just as lovable and deserving of a good home for the rest of their time on earth as any other animal in a shelter. So the next time you decide to adopt, think about a senior pet to bring some extra sweet love to your home.
    Eating to Maximize your Workout
    Cassie Bjork is a globally recognized industry leader in weight loss, a highly sought-after speaker, and the #1 International Best Selling Author of Why Am I Still Fat? The Hidden Keys to Unlocking That Stubborn Weight Loss. Today she talks about how to eat to maximize your workout. This means how long before a work out you should eat and how long after a workout. We also talk about what foods you should be consuming. Should you take in protein? Carbs? Fat? What about fasted cardio?

    There are so many different diets and methods out there, and Cassie tells us the trick is to find out what works for YOU. Listen to your body and go back to basics by just eating REAL FOOD. All these bars and powders on the market can be intimidating, so if you have the time, cook yourself a meal with whole food. We also talk about supplementation to help speed recovery and lower inflammation. One of the BEST on the market is Thorne's Omega-3 with CoQ10. Cassie talks about all the benefits of this supplement in today's episode.
    The 5G Network's Impact on Bee Population
    Dr. Debra Greene, PhD, is a mind-body medicine specialist and frequently quoted expert in the fields of energy medicine and energy psychology. Today we continue our talk from last time about the 5G network and it's effects on humans and the environment. This includes the bee population.

    The effects of RFR (Radio Frequency Radiation) from wireless devices are disturbing the navigation of bees and other insects who use the earth's magnetic field and light energy to navigate. This will make them restless, develop an urge to swarm, increasingly aggressive, and eventually colony collapse. And this could be prevented or stopped if we would just SLOW DOWN. The human population cannot seem to figure out how to slow down and be content with the technology we have now. Dr. Debra walks us through the energy science of this and what we can do personally to try and fight this devastation.

  • Gratitude and Self-Control & Is Therapy Helping or Hurting You? #1120

    Today we talk with Dr. Art Markman about how gratitude can increase self-control. Kip Watson talks about how modern therapy could actually be hurting you rather than helping you.
    Gratitude May Increase Self-Control
    Dr. Art Markman is a cognitive scientist at the University of Texas whose research spans a range of topics in the way people think. He is that author of the book, "Brain Briefs: Answers to the Most (and Least) Pressing Questions about Your Mind." Today we talk with him about how gratitude may increase self control. Things like cheating seem to be less tempting when we practice gratitude more often.

    "Gratitude has many benefits. When you’re feeling down, it can help you to feel connected to others who have helped you, and that can make you more resilient. That is a big reason why so many people keep a gratitude journal and why self-help programs like the 12-step programs encourage people to be grateful for the positive things other people have done for them.

    Gratitude may also give a boost to people’s self-control and make them less likely to give in to the temptation to cheat." You can read more of Dr. Markman's article here.
    Is Modern Therapy Really Helping You?
    Kip Watson is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor. She is a certified trainer for the Positive Coaching Alliance, a certified life coach, and one of the few Certified High Performance Coaches (CHPC) in the world. Today we talk with Kip about how modern therapy might not be doing what it should be for you. In fact, it could be hurting you. How is this possible?

    Therapy is something that every person can benefit from. But there are different types of therapy, and sometimes you may not be ready for some of the emotions that therapy can bring out. As far as moving forward from past hurts, therapy can sometimes re-manifest those emotions in an unhealthy way. Listen in to hear what Kip has to say about modern therapy.

    Building Muscle: What You Need to Know
    Tina Bernet Allen is a top female personal trainer in the DFW area. She has over 20 years of experience, and is Bernadette's personal trainer. Today we talk about building muscle. Because there is so much confusion on exercise techniques to achieve certain goals, Tina is here to set the record straight. Things like: light weight & more reps OR heavy weight & less reps, are terms you hear in the gym. But what purpose does each serve? And, where does cardio play into that?

    Lifting weights serves different purposes. It can be for strength, or for building muscle mass. Both are great for you, physically. Tina tells us what to do in the gym for each purpose. Also, she talks about lifting weights to failure and what this means. Building muscle is such an efficient way to burn fat and feel stronger. If you are a female and are scared of bulking, listen in to this episode because we explain how that will NOT happen from lifting weights.

  • Eating Plant-Based Made Easy & Overcoming Childhood Adversities #1118

    Today we talk with Sadrah Schadel about eating plant-based, made easy. And we talk with DeWone Bennett about overcoming adverse childhood experiences.
    Eating Plant-Based Made Easy
    Sadrah Schadel is the co-founder of No Evil Foods. They make small batch plant meats from scratch and by hand, updating a centuries old tradition to create powerful and innovative plant-based proteins. And they do it all with organic & non-GMO ingredients. Today Sadrah talks with us about eating plant-based, made easy! Which for most, this is a huge hurdle when eating more plant-based. It can be difficult to navigate where to start and what kind of foods to eat to make sure you are getting all the nutrients your body needs.

    Sadrah tells us where we can get the most protein from non-animal products. Certain veggies and legumes actually have all the protein you need on a daily basis. And with No Evil Foods, you get the taste and texture of meat so you can get your fix if it's something that you miss. The one thing you have to be careful with when it comes to meat alternatives, is the ingredient list. The longer the list of ingredients, most likely, the quality is not so great. At No Evil Foods, their ingredient list is short and health conscience. You can find where to get No Evil Foods in your area, here.
    Overcoming Adverse Childhood Experiences
    DeWone Bennett joins us today to talk about some of the circumstances that are considered "adverse" as a child, and how it is possible to get through them. DeWone Bennett is a licensed professional counselor with over 10 years of experience. He talks with us today about specific childhood experiences that could have adverse or negative effects on a child. This could be a divorce, a death, mental illness, bullying, and so much more.

    Children really are products of their environment. Things they see and witness will be what they carry into their future lives. A lot of the time, adversities are extremely hard to completely overcome. DeWone talks with us about how adversity can also do the opposite, and make a person come out stronger.

  • Attraction vs Intention & Sh*t on the Shelves #1117

    Today we talk with V Capaldi about attraction vs. intention, and Shawn Wells continues his series "Sh*t on the Shelves."
    V Capaldi - Attraction vs. Intention
    V Capaldi is the "Paleo Boss Lady." She is a well-known TEDx speaker, influencer, and all around Boss Lady. She joins us today to talk about the power of intention and how it differentiates from attraction. The law of attraction is the belief that positive or negative thoughts bring positive or negative experiences into a person's life. Intention is a mental state that represents a commitment to carrying out an action or actions in the future. The difference in these is that intention requires planning and action. V attributes a lot of her success to her intention.

    Today she gives us easy ways to add intention to your day-to-day. This could be waking up in the morning and meditating while your coffee is brewing, or doing a mantra throughout the day to keep your goals and positive energy in the forefront. There are super simple ways to be intentional, and we talk all about this today.
    Sh*t on the Shelves
    Today we continue part two of "Sh*t on the Shelves" with Shawn Wells. Shawn is a registered dietician and a certified sports nutritionist, and a long-time regular on One Life Radio. We always love his content and his knowledge on current science and nutrition information. Today we continue our talk about all the sh*t on the shelves when you are at the grocery store, or heck, on Amazon or wherever you do your shopping. There are so many products that are laden with TERRIBLE ingredients. Things that are absolutely toxic to our bodies like: food dyes, sugar, high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, and so on.

    Holiday foods and candies are a huge reason why sugar intake during the holidays is so high. Along with that comes sugar crashes, poor sleep, carb overload, stress, and all the ingredients to a poor lifestyle. Hence: Flu season. Shawn talks about the importance of supplementing with Vitamin D and K2, or making sure you are taking daily walks and getting some sun. Making sure you are getting the essential vitamins and nutrients, along with exercise and eating right, you can make sure your body is ready to fight cold and flu season.

The first place to start is with educating our children and empowering women.

    The scary part about our world today, is the availability to ANYTHING. If someone wants to buy a child for sex, they easily can find a way. Also, our children are over-sexualized way too early, their minds simply don't know how to process it. That is what makes the act of sex lose it's sacredness and innocence.    We are living in a very unsafe world for children, and we need to step up and change it. Jaco tells us exactly what we can do in our own communities to help fight this fight and end the sex trafficking crisis in America.
