Do we know the skill of stepping into all God has for us? In Joshua, the people of God had the inheritance of the promised land, but taking possession of it required something of them. They were to be strong and courageous, and they were to be radically obedient to God's word. These commands were linked with God's promises of His blessing and His presence with His people. As followers of Jesus, we also have an inheritance. Our inheritance is the Kingdom of God! And just like in Joshua, we must have bold faith and radical obedience to experience the blessing of God and His presence in our lives.

What does it look like for us to be a Joshua Generation? As we look at the story of Joshua, we find that the messages in this book hold true for us today. Joshua valued the presence of God, was intent to listen when God spoke and faithfully stepped out in obedience. When God commands, He always attaches the promise of an inheritance for those who remain faithful - and God has an inheritance for us, too! But if we are to be a Joshua Generation in our day, we need to be a people who trust what God says and moves when He speaks.

Jesus' example of leadership is that of a servant. If we are going to truly be like Jesus, we need to also serve one another. In the church, everyone has a role to play and everyone's gifting is needed. How can you be faithful with the giftings God has given you?

In this Easter message, we look at Jesus' claim to be the "resurrection and life" from the story of Mary, Martha, and their brother Lazarus. Jesus reveals himself as one who loves and cares for them - and us! Our pain and sorrows are not lost on Jesus! The story of Easter displays Jesus' great compassion for us as He went to the cross, died in our place and arose three days later, conquering our greatest enemies!

Reading the Bible daily is one of the most important practices for thriving as a follower of Jesus. This year we're kicking off a Community Bible Reading Plan to grow together in meaningfully connecting with God through His Word. The plan starts Monday, January 9 and concludes on Friday, April 7, which is Easter Weekend. We will walk through all four gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) reading one chapter a day, and each daily reading will be paired with a Psalm. You can view the full reading plan at https://www.onelifehouston.com/readingplan

What is God's appropriate response to our sin? This week we look at what Jesus says about the reality of Hell. This is an incredibly difficult truth for our 21st century western mindset to accept, but it also shapes our understanding of the beauty of what Jesus has done for us on the cross. Jesus taught that Hell is the appropriate consequence for sin, but that Salvation from Hell is just a matter of knowing God!
