What is the source of our suffering? And if God is in control, why doesn’t He use his power to end suffering? This week, Jeremy Little continued our series Questioning Christianity looking at how a loving God can allow suffering. The very fact that we are outraged at suffering actually points us to the existence of a God who is the standard of morality and the standard of how things “ought to be”. The Bible teaches us that God is not aloof from our suffering, but has written himself into human history as Jesus Christ who suffered on our behalf. Though we experience suffering because our world is broken by sin, in Jesus our suffering finds a home - a Savior who empathizes with us and who has authority to ultimately deliver us. Like Jesus, we can support others who suffer by empathizing with their pain and also pointing them to the goodness of God who will one day end suffering for His people forever.

Isn’t Christianity a dying religion? Does Christianity really benefit the world? In this week's message, Brian Barr continued our series, Questioning Christianity, by presenting a big picture of global Christianity today. While many claim that the Christian faith is dying, the research disagrees. Jesus told his followers that His global movement would start small, but would continue to spread to the ends of the world, and that is exactly what has happened! Christianity is the largest global religion, and it is the most multi-ethnic, multicultural, diverse movement in all of history. Although the media portrays Christians as being largely hypocritical, stats show that Christians far outpace their non-religious peers in generosity, volunteering, adopting, acts of kindness, and much more. Statistical data alone doesn’t prove Christianity to be true, but it shows there is something about Jesus that is different from what the world offers. He really transforms lives. He really is the hope of humanity. He and His movement cannot be easily dismissed as irrelevant.

This week, we kicked off our new sermon series Questioning Christianity. We are living today in a Post-Christian culture where many people are leaving and deconstructing their faith. During the next several weeks, we will evaluate the claims against Christianity and give persuasive reasons for why we believe what we believe and why it’s the best hope for the world!
In today’s message, Chris Nagel evaluates the reliability of the Bible. As followers of Jesus, we treasure Scripture as God’s word, preserved throughout centuries, written to us that we might know and believe in Jesus Christ. That through Him, we would find salvation from our sins and a relationship with God the Father. But how can we be sure that what is included in the Bible was what was originally written? How can we be confident that the Bible is an accurate account and not just a legend? Join us as we dig into these questions and treasure the beauty of Scripture.

What does it mean to be consecrated to God? We live in a time when worldliness runs rampant - sin looks normal and righteousness seems strange. As followers of Jesus, we are to be set apart. We are to look different from the world and live whole-heartedly for God. We cannot be more influenced by the world than we are by our Father and His Word. Let us be a people who refuse to allow worldliness in our lives. A people who are whole-hearted in their devotion to God, consecrated to Him and ready to be used for His purposes.

How can we live as joyful people in a world that is full of skepticism and despair? This week, Brian Barr closes our three-week series on Romans 14:17 by looking at how we can live a life full of joy in the Holy Spirit. As followers of Jesus, we should be the most joyful people around! Our culture says to do whatever makes you happy, but the superpower for a Christian is to be full of joy no matter the circumstance. We can only do this through the Holy Spirit and by tapping into Him as our source of true joy.

How can we have peace when the world is not a peaceful place? This week, Jeremy Little continued our sermon series on Romans 14:17, diving into the reality that God’s kingdom is where true peace is found. There is a war for peace within our souls. So often we think our peace depends on our circumstances, but God offers peace that is strong enough to face difficulty. His peace will never run out because He has given us His own Son Jesus, who is the source of peace! When we invite Jesus into every area of our lives, we will become a beacon of peace and reconciliation to the world around us.

What pleases God? This question is at the heart of what the Bible says about righteousness. This week, Brian Barr kicked off a new 3-week sermon series on Romans 14:17 - a verse that reminds followers of Jesus what is most important to the Christian life. Pursuing righteousness means living to please God wholeheartedly. Sometimes we can feel like “loser” Christians because we try, but fail and don’t feel righteous. The good news of the gospel is that, in Christ, our status of righteousness does not change! And God has given us His Holy Spirit who empowers us to hunger and thirst for righteousness, and to become in practice who we already are in Christ!

Romans 14:17
Jesus alone is sufficient for us! But in a world that easily sweeps our hearts towards materialism, we can drift towards a poverty mindset. A poverty mindset rejects the sufficiency of God and focuses on what we lack. It is not the way of Jesus. The message of the Gospel is that Jesus alone is sufficient for our lives and we find our satisfaction in Him. Rather than focusing on what we lack, we need a Kingdom mindset that focuses on what the Lord has given us and looks to steward our resources well.

“Serve the Lord alone!” are the final instructions from Joshua to the Israelites. This week, Brian Barr finished our Joshua series with Joshua’s final words. Joshua instructs the people to remember the works God has done for them, to not compromise His commands, and calls them to a life-long commitment to God. Joshua’s instructions still hold true for our lives today! To ensure that our devotion to God is passed down to the next generation, we must be living lives that are whole-heartedly devoted to Him. “Choose today whom you will serve….but as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”

What promise are you still waiting to come to fruition? And how long are you willing to hold onto that promise? This week, Brian Barr continued in our Joshua series. As the allotments for the tribes of Israel are established in the Promised Land, Caleb reminded Joshua of God’s promise for his portion of land. For 45 years, Caleb remained wholehearted to the Lord, believing that God would come through on His promise. God blesses those who do not waver in their faith and devotion to God. Let us be a people who, like Caleb, remain wholehearted to God and believe Him for an inheritance in this life and in the life to come!
