Order

  • Order is a sense of order and structure that creates stability. 
  • Order in the life of an individual is represented by the habits and rhythms that structure your day (morning routine, making your bed, working out, journaling, diet) 
  • Order in the life of a business is the standards, procedures, and systems that create repeatable efficiency (scoreboards, SOP’s, 
  • A life with order is consistent and stable. 
  • An organization with order is dependable and scalable. 
  • As a leader, part of your role is to subdue chaos into order in your organization. 

    • Chaos

    • Chaos is the sense of uncertainty, creativity, and ambiguity that creates growth. 
    • Chaos in the life of an individual is represented by the areas in which you courageously venture into the unknown (solitude, adventure, new project, risk, new relationship) 
    • Chaos in the life of a business is any work related to the creative future of the enterprise (strategic planning, vision casting, new projects, risk, BHAGs)
    •  A life with chaos can be creative, fresh, and often fun. 
    • An organization with chaos can be engaging and entrepreneurial. 
    • As a leader, part of your role is to strategically introduce chaos into your life and the organization. 

      • The Relationship 

      • Are you order, are you chaos, or are you the force that mediates between the two? 
      • The impact-driven leader does not avoid the tension between order and chaos. The impact-driven leader wrestles with it. 
      • The day that your life ONLY has order is the day you become complacent. 
      • The day your life only has chaos is the day you become inconsistent. 
      • Structure, routine, and discipline are the breeding ground for creation 

        • Application Questions 

        • On a scale of 1-10, if 1 is total order and 10 is total chaos, where are you right now? **Remember the goal is to maintain a manageable level of tension that keeps you consistent and fresh. 
        • What are the areas in your life, leadership, or business that are crying out for order? 
        • What are the areas of your life, leadership or business that you have earned the ability to strategically introduce chaos? 
        • What rhythms and habits will help you wrestle with the tension?
