A year into Covid and while some races are being held, others are not. Our local St. Pat’s 10k is postponed… again. Ironman Texas… postponed. As more and more people are vaccinated, we do see some in-person races happening. But some others are still taking the route of precaution.
We’ve talked a lot about pessimism and optimism the past few shows, and this is one area where it definitely pays to be an optimist.
YES, it sucks when your race gets canceled. You have trained. You have made plans – hotel, travel. You were ready. And now it’s not happening.
BUT, eventually this is going to turn around and more races will happen than not. So if you have a race on the schedule in the coming months, it does not pay to be a pessimist. It does not pay to assume your race is going to get postponed or canceled because others do.
Because while your suspicions may ultimately prove correct, there is always a chance they won’t be. And what’s worse? Being ready for your race and having it get postoned? Or sitting at the starting line of a race you are unprepared for because you were a pessimist?
Stay vigilant. Stay ready. Be trained up and good to go so when this does change, you’ll be prepared.
