Netflix series based on her book Surviving Death. This week I am talking to Leslie Kean about the Netflix series based on her book Surviving Death.

BioLeslie Kean is an independent investigative journalist focused on bringing credible information about hidden, paranormal and “impossible” realities into the mainstream. She is the author of the award-winning book Surviving Death: A Journalist Investigates Evidence for an Afterlife and UFOs: Generals, Pilots, and Government Officials Go on the Record.

Surviving Death is the basis for a six-part documentary series on Netflix (of the same name), launched in early 2021, with Kean as a consulting producer. The series is produced and directed by Break Thru Films as a Netflix original.

Kean wrote the epilogue for the book An Extraordinary Journey: The Memoirs of a Physical Medium (White Crow Books) by Stewart Alexander and the foreword to Towards the Unknown: Memoirs of a Psychical Researcher by Erlendur Haraldsson, both published by White Crow Books in 2020.

Kean’s two decades of reporting on UFOs culminated in a series of groundbreaking stories for The New York Times from 2017 - 2020. (See UFOs Media for more detail on these stories). From 2012 to 2017 Kean contributed articles to the Huffington Post. In 2015, she was the subject of the short book Unknown Skies: Leslie Kean and the Case for Rational UFO Investigation by Steven Donoso.

UFOs: Generals, Pilots, and Government Officials Go on the Record was a 2010 New York Times bestseller and has been published in eight additional languages. Kean helped produce the 2011 History Channel documentary “Secret Access: UFOs on the Record” based on her book and has appeared in numerous other documentaries.

Before writing UFOs, Kean was the plaintiff in a landmark five-year Freedom of Information Act federal lawsuit against NASA concerning the 1965 crash of an unexplained object in Kecksburg, Pennsylvania, settled in her favor. In 2007, Kean and filmmaker James Fox organized a large Washington DC international press conference on official UFO investigations, covered by media around the world.

Kean has lectured at American University, Rice University, the Franklin Institute, The Institute of Noetic Sciences, and Omega Institute. She has been featured in print and broadcast media for over twenty years.

In the 1990’s, Kean was a producer and on-air host for public radio and contributed freelance articles to newspapers here and abroad. While spending many years reporting on Burma, Kean coauthored Burma’s Revolution of the Spirit: The Struggle for Democratic Freedom and Dignity (Aperture, 1994; White Orchid Press, 1995, Thai and Burmese Editions).

Infinite Awareness. This week I am talking to Marjorie Woollacott about her book Infinite Awareness: The Awakening of a Scientific Mind. We talk about NDEs and more.

As a neuroscientist, Marjorie Woollacott had no doubts that the brain was a purely physical entity controlled by chemicals and electrical pulses. When she experimented with meditation for the first time, however, her entire world changed. Woollacott’s journey through years of meditation has made her question the reality she built her career upon and has forced her to ask what human consciousness really is. Infinite Awareness pairs Woollacott’s research as a neuroscientist with her self-revelations about the mind’s spiritual power. Between the scientific and spiritual worlds, she breaks open the definition of human consciousness to investigate the existence of a non-physical and infinitely powerful mind.

Marjorie Hines Woollacott, PhD, has been a neuroscience professor at the University of Oregon for more than three decades and a meditator for almost four. She also has a master’s degree in Asian studies, which she began on a teaching sabbatical and completed at the UO while a full-time professor. Her master’s thesis was the foundation for her latest book, Infinite Awareness: The Awakening of a Scientific Mind, which is both a scientist’s memoir and a research survey on human consciousness. Dr. Woollacott is currently the president of the Academy for the Advancement of Postmaterialist Sciences (AAPS) and the Research Director for the International Association of Near-Death Studies (IANDS).

Woollacott’s own research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation, and includes both research in neuroscience and testing the efficacy of alternative forms of therapy such as tai chi and meditation for improving both attention and balance in adults. She also has published studies on sensory contributions to music performance, in collaboration with Steven Pologe, professor of cello performance in the UO School of Music, and studies on attentional network changes associated with meditation practice.

With Dr. Anne Shumway-Cooke, Woollacott has coauthored a popular textbook for health professionals, Motor Control: Theory and Practical Applications, in its fifth edition, and she has written more than 200 peer-reviewed research articles and book chapters. She has been the keynote speaker at conferences in North and South America, Europe, Australia, and Asia, and has taught courses not only in neuroscience and rehabilitation medicine but also in meditation, hatha yoga, and alternative and complementary medicine. Her undergraduate work and doctoral studies were in neuroscience at the University of Southern California.

Near Death Experience. This week I am talking David Bennett about his Near Death Experience and work with the International Association of Near Death Studies.

David enjoys the retired life of a public speaker, author, energetic healer, and transformational life coach. He’s had many appearances on radio and television, including on The Story of God with Morgan Freeman, Doctor Oz, Angels Among Us, NBC National News, and PBS.

David had many transformative experiences; in 1983 He drowned and had a Near-Death Experience while the Chief Engineer of the ocean research vessel Aloha. He experienced a second transformative experience in 1994 when in meditation in Sedona AZ, his childhood home. The third experience occurred in November 2000, when he was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer that metastasized into his spine causing its collapse. Now in remission and retired/disabled his passion includes Working in his woodshop and writing reflections for living an empowered life and sharing them on his weekly Facebook live events “Contemplative Living”

Alien Abduction. This week I am talking to Whitley Strieber about his book 'The Afterlife Revolution'.

Distressing Near Death Experiences. This week I am talking to David Gerrelli about his book on distressing Near Death Experiences 'How To Escape From Hell'

It's estimated that between 4 and 15% of our entire global population experience an NDE. That equates to around 5m people in the United States, 100m in Europe and 200m in China. Only a tiny fraction of these experiences are ever reported.What if they're right? Can hundreds of millions of people be making this up? Are they communicating over some super secret global network to get their stories straight? I like a good conspiracy theory just like the next man, but this one's a little off the reservation. Of the hundreds of millions of NDE's worldwide there is a small, but notable, percentage of destressing or Hellish experiences. These experiences commonly involve Demon's, torture and horrific suffering. How to Escape from Hell: Studies of the Afterlife focuses on these extraordinary stories from all corners of the world. On our journey we'll hear from the witnesses of these experiences, comparing the recurring themes and events. Through my research I'll pose to you answers to the questions we all want to know, but were afraid to ask. Is there even a Hell? Is religion right, will I go to Hell for not following the prescribed path? If I do, how the Hell do I get out of Hell? How do I avoid Hell? Is it too late? Have my dead loved ones gone there?
