Number 1: 141: The 1968 Canadian Humanoid Wave with Todd Purse
In episode 140 we looked at a wave of UFO activity that occurred in 1967. Many reported seeing strange red lights and metallic structured craft, and other objects, but few humanoid sightings were reported. In 1968, things got a lot weirder. Throughout Canada witnesses reported strange encounters with humanoids, including luminous men, spacesuit-clad figures, a long bearded naked figure clinging to a boulder overlooking a cemetery, and figure with an ugly face peering in through a window. Number 2: 111: The 1965-67 Series, Part 3: 1967, Complete with UFO Paranoia and Weirdness with Ashley Hilt
As silent wings hovered over the TNT area north of Point Pleasant, the big gray birdman would soon be replaced with bright luminous lights, and mysterious men driving brand new Cadillacs, asking strange questions to Mothman witnesses. 1967 would be the weirdest year of the flap. With humanoid and UFO reports on the rise, intense men in black type activity would accompany the witnesses all throughout the country, along with poltergeists and strange phone calls. The first cattle mutilation case of our modern mythos was reported in September. A new wave of contactees appeared that summer to cause chaos and confusion. In New York, a strange tale would unfold in one neighborhood in Scotia. And what was up with Ohio residents hitting anomalous things with their cars? Number 3: 97: The Giant UFOs of the Yukon with Bex Atwood
The Yukon has this reputation where the sky is a theater itself. It’s a place known for its lights in the sky, where from August to April the Northern Light can be seen against a backdrop of stars. It’s the kind of isolated place that you’d think most UFOs would avoid, but in the mid 1990s, Yukon became a place where enormous UFOs would be reported. The first sightings would come in late 1995 from the nearby Northwest Territories. Leo Norwegian, an elder from the Lı́ı́dlı̨ı̨ Kų́ę́ First Nation came forward in January of 1996 with a sighting he’d had that previous November. From there the folks of UFO*BC would document the sightings of Sarah Baker and Sue Malcolm, twin sisters who owned a gold claim and observed a gigantic cigar shaped object directly over it. Later that year, 22 people claimed to see an object that was approximately a half mile wide. These sightings were so good that they were able to estimate the size base on the triangulation of the reports. Bex Atwood, who is ⅓ of Liminal Earth, and a frequent contributor on NiteDrift with Jim Perry of the Euphomet podcast, joins us to discuss the gigantic UFOs of the Yukon. Number 4: 96: The Space People Roam the Hallways: UFOs as Ghosts with Amanda Paulson
In 1968 Gordon Creighton of Flying Saucer Review received a rather angry letter from a man named F.D. Marrow of Flemington, New Jersey. Marrow, a Klass apologist, was concerned that he was doing a disservice to UFO research by comparing UFOs and ghostly phenomenon. “On this basis UFOs will never communicate with the authorities or the average man, and we will have to depend on mediums, and others with so-called psychic insight for information – and of course such reports can never be substantiated.” As a response, in the September/October 1968 edition of Flying Saucer Review, Creighton published an article called “Strangers About the House” which detailed ghostly encounters with human resembling beings wearing space suits and appearing like TV images. Mediums contacting beings from “other worlds” was nothing new, and in fact, noted medium Vesta La Viesta did so in the 1800s. By the mid to late 1960s, new theories crept into mainstream UFO research, suggesting that these craft may not even be physical, but from dimensions unseen to the human eye. I’m joined by paranormal investigator Amanda Paulson, who has been investigating the paranormal for over 14 years, and is the star of the upcoming documentary, Death is With Me to discuss when UFOs and ghostly phenomenon cross the streams. Number 5: 95: The Year of the Humanoids, Pt. 3: The Pascagoula Abduction with Bradley Netherton
1973 was an unprecedented year for abduction cases. 10 abduction cases were reported that year, 8 of which occurred during a 17 day period from October 11-28. Many of them would become infamous in the UFO community. The abduction of Patty Roach and her children was featured in an episode of In Search Of... alongside the story of Carl Higdon. The model for Brian Scott's repeated abduction experiences would go on to mirror those reported in books by people like Budd Hopkins and John Mack. The Pascagoula Abduction is the most well known from 1973. The story of Charles Hickson and Calvin Parker are among the most relatable. Two men went fishing on the evening of October 11, 1973 and had an experience that people are still talking about today. Years later, additional eyewitnesses have come forward adding more validity to their story. And of course, there is the infamous tape. On this episode of the Our Strange Skies podcast, Bradley Netherton from the Kolchak's Loop podcast joins me to discuss the case, and what the area is like to someone who is local to it.
