Her background includes medical social work, gerontology, and child welfare, as well as working for a large child-placing agency for several years. Tara lives with her husband and children in the Midwest, and in addition to advocating for the adopted person and speaking and consulting nationwide at conferences, schools, and churches, she works as an Assistant Dean of Students at a lower school with students of diverse racial and socioeconomic backgrounds. Did you know that black women are three to four times more likely to die during pregnancy than white women----regardless of education, income, prenatal care, or weight? In this episode I am chatting with Dr. Quantrilla Ard on the disparities in black maternal health. We discuss her motherhood story including her journey of becoming an Angel mom. 68% of women with a mental illness are parents*. Many are going day to day struggling alone in shame and wondering how to mother with their mental health challenges. My guest, Lindsay Demchak, is with us today sharing her battles with anxiety disorder and wading through dark seasons in her life while being a mom of 2 kids. She also talks about how she has learned to release the shame, resist the pressure to power through, and lean into God for the healing she so desperately needed.
