In this episode, I share a story from my college days when I was hustling to make ends meet and wound up modeling nude for the art department. One day, I walked past the campus art museum and saw a life-sized painting of myself—ass cheeks and all—displayed right in the front window. People pointed, some laughed, but I didn't flinch. I owned it. That moment taught me a lesson I carry into business and leadership today: eventually, the world is going to see the real you, and when that happens, you can either shrink back or stand tall.
We live in a world obsessed with curation—perfect captions, polished images, and "authenticity" that's been edited into a brand. But the truth always shows up. Your team sees how you lead under pressure, your clients see what your culture actually looks like, and the people closest to you see if your confidence is real or just performance. Leaders who last don't run from exposure—they use it. I break down examples from Lady Gaga, Dave Chappelle, and Elon Musk, all of whom were mocked before they were celebrated, but who understood that hiding their weird would only dilute their power.
Authenticity doesn't mean dumping your trauma online or pretending flaws are strategy. It means being willing to own your story—the hustle, the grind, the mistakes, and the scars—because those are the very things that make you credible. In this episode, I talk about why your credibility as a leader doesn't come from being flawless, but from being real. When the world inevitably sees the real you, make sure it's not a façade—make sure it's a masterpiece worth putting in the front window.
Welcome to The Spinoso Podcast hosted by CEO, doctor, comic book geek, and car guy, Alex Spinoso. I help people and companies grow - especially in the medical business. While my experience and expertise is in scaling all types of medical businesses to 7, 8, 9-figures or more, I can be a mentor to anyone who wants to take ownership of their lives, become a better leader at home and at work, and overcome any obstacle that stands in their way.
