  • EP198 The Choice Effect: How Owning Your Choices Builds Confidence

Welcome to Episode 198 where we start out the new month talking about how owning your choices is foundational for self-esteem, and how confidence and ownership of your choices are intertwined.

In this episode we start out a new month all about owning our choices and how that is so important if we want to feel confident, have trust in ourselves, and create the kind of life that truly reflects all of who we are. When we don't own our choices, we often feel victimized by life and ironically end up with a life we aren't happy with or proud of, because we used excuses and denial to keep us from seeing what we needed to change in or der to thrive. We then introduce some ways you can begin to create awareness around the choices you make, and how to take responsibility for the ones you make going forward.

    Key Elements:

    · Talk about what it looks like when we don't own what we choose.

    · Look at steps to take to build accountability around your choices.

    · Explore ways we can build confidence around making good decisions.

"Life is a matter of choices,

    and every choice you

    make makes you."

  • EP197 Building Confidence Means Owning Our Behavior

Welcome to Episode 197 where we look at when we don't take responsibility for our behavior, we can act out in a variety of ways. These behaviors can be harmful to ourselves and those around us and can create a cycle of blame and defensiveness that makes it difficult to move forward and grow.

In this episode we talk about such an important part of self-confidence, and that is owning our behavior, regardless of how we feel or what others may be saying or doing. Our behavior is so interconnected with our communication, so we look at some pretty unhealthy ways we can act in an emotionally immature way, from deflecting responsibility by being defensive to the nasty gaslighting and everything in between. Being an emotionally safe, trustworthy, and honest human is the best way to not only feel better about ourselves, but to create healthier connections with others.

    Key Elements:

    · Identify unhealthy behaviors and how they hurt our relationships.

    · Explore aspects of healthy ownership of how we act.

    · Process steps we can begin taking toward connection and greater self-confidence.

    Just because your pain

    is understandable,

    doesn't mean your

    behavior is acceptable.

We talk about what happens when we don't and ways we can begin to take care of ourselves while honoring others in the process.

A big part of self-ownership is to recognize that we have control over how we communicate our needs and how we prioritize them. By acknowledging our needs and finding healthy ways to express them, we can create stronger relationships and live more fulfilling lives.

    Key Elements:

    · Discuss how and why we may disown our needs.

    · Identify ways we can act on our unmet needs in relationships.

  • EP195 Building Confidence Means Owning Your Feelings Avoiding Manipulation Gaslighting and Blaming

Welcome to Episode 195 where we get serious about a very important part of taking responsibility: and that is owning your feelings and taking responsibility for honoring them and not leaking them out on others. It involves acknowledging and accepting your emotions without letting them control your behavior or manipulate others.

In this episode, we will explore the importance of emotional ownership in healthy relationships and communication. We will discuss the negative consequences of leaking feelings, manipulating, gaslighting, blaming, and acting out, and how these behaviors can harm our relationships and our own well-being. You can't be emotionally immature and feel good about yourself, nor can you have healthy relationships or success in life. Learning to own, and honor what you feel is creating self-trust and lowering your anxiety. Not acting out immaturely means you can connect in healthier, more meaningful ways with others, which can help you feel heard, loved and known.

    Key Elements:

    · Look at different ways we can leak out our feelings.

    · Explore the toxicity of manipulation, blaming and gaslighting.

    · Discuss what it means to take full ownership of your feelings.

    "You are always responsible

    for how you act,

    no matter how you feel.

    Remember that."

  • EP191 Real Self-Care Means Following Through

Welcome to Episode 191 where we dig into how real self-care means following through on what we need to do to take care of ourselves.

In this episode we dive deeper into the idea that TRUE self-care is when we make it real. When we follow through on both holding the line on our boundaries, and taking responsibility for what we have promised ourselves we would take care of. Self-care involves following through with actions that nourish your physical, emotional, and mental well-being. We talked last week about some of the good things and not so good things to have in our life. If you haven't had a chance to listen to that yet you might want to do that first…and come join us back here when you're done so this episode will make more sense.

When you commit to taking care of yourself, it means setting boundaries, saying no to things that drain you, prioritizing rest and relaxation, and making time for activities that bring you joy and fulfillment. Following through with these actions not only benefits your own well-being, but also supports your ability to be assertive and advocate for yourself in all areas of your life.

    Key Elements:

    · Explore the some of the consequences of not following through on self-care

    · Identify how taking care of ourselves is the best way to feel more confident.

    · Identify ways to make it easier to commit and follow through.

    "Part of courage

    is simple consistency."

  • EP190 Real Self Care Means Caring About Your Boundaries

Welcome to Episode 190 where begin the month all about how self-care means caring about your boundaries. The ones you set with others and yourself.

In this episode we start the month focusing on self-care: taking care of your physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Caring about our boundaries is an important aspect of self-care because it helps us protect our well-being and maintain a healthy balance in our relationships – especially our interactions with others. Having clear boundaries means that we are able to set limits on what we are willing to accept or tolerate in our personal and professional relationships. This helps us avoid becoming overwhelmed or taken advantage of, and protects our mental and emotional health. We are focusing on the boundary aspects of saying no to what is NOT supporting us, taking quiet time to listen to our inner wisdom, saying yes to planning and then of course acting, with baby steps to begin the journey.

    Key Elements:

    • Talk about how self-care means setting limits on doing too much.
    • Focus on ways to tune into and honor your inner voice.
    • Process how planning and being proactive can bring in the calm.

    "Be patient with yourself.

    Self-growth is tender;

    it's holy ground.

    There's no greater investment."

    — Stephen Covey

  • EP189 The Best of Connection Episodes

Welcome to Episode 189 where we listen in clips from the top five most listened to episodes about connection.

In this episode we finish out the month with probably the best topic, because it can be a culmination of all the work we talked about in the previous episodes: connection. We need healthy separateness, boundaries, direct communication and to own our needs. Connecting in the healthiest, most authentic ways requires work in all of those, and other areas. It is also what we all crave to feel known, loved, cared about and that we make sense. I think healthy connection is a way to feel that we both belong to ourselves and feel that belongingness with others. Connection is so much more than just healthy communication. It's about vulnerability, being transparent, sharing joys and sorrows as well as things we are ashamed of, afraid of or embarrassed about. Connection is also about shared experiences that bond us to others and give life meaning.

    Key Elements:

    • Explore how connection is more than just healthy communication.
    • Talk about how authentic, vulnerable communication is the key to connection
    • Look at how we can work on creating emotional trust and safety in our communication.

Sometimes if you expose your vulnerability,

    someone else will feel comforted.

It's like we're all in this boat together.
