  • EP148 Creating change Means Starting with Boundaries

Welcome to Episode 148 where we look at how important boundaries are if we want to change things in our life, especially our self-discipline.

In this episode we focus on an important aspect of self-love, and that is self-discipline. Loving ourselves enough to say no to what isn't working in our life and saying no to hurting our health, draining our energy, and sabotaging good things for ourselves. Learning to practice boundaries and following through even on one change can be empowering and life changing. Change takes courage and it means commitment to taking actual steps to say no to ourselves.

    Key Elements:

    • Identify the ways we can get clear and committed about our self-discipline.
    • Discuss why we may struggle to be more disciplined.
    • Process what some of the consequences might be if we don't grab some structure for ourselves.

"The fact is discipline is only

    punishment when imposed

    on you by someone else.

    When you discipline yourself,

    it's not punishment but

    empowerment."

In this episode we get real about the ways we can hold ourselves back from what we say we want…the healthier habits and the steps toward our big goals that are just waiting for us to begin and maintain. We talk about how old, limiting beliefs, lack of boundaries and lack of healthy support can wreak havoc on the best-laid plans. But we also get into some time-tested ways you can counteract those gremlins and get moving toward your goals.

    Key Elements:

    • Look at how fear is main driver for keeping ourselves stuck.
    • Process the different ways fear plays out and helps sabotage.

  • EP145 Healthy Communication: Assertiveness is More Than Just a Skill

Welcome to Episode 145 where we talk about how assertiveness is actually made up of several aspects that all work together.

In this episode we talk about how assertiveness is actually a package of things that all work together so we can stand in our truth, speak our truth, and live our truth all while being calm, considerate and consistent. Assertiveness is not just a skill, and it's not just one thing either. It's multi-layered and multifaceted, and I believe all the parts are necessary and work together so our insides can match our outsider, and we can connect with others in healthy ways, with boundaries, with self-worth for each, and with compassion. Assertiveness is built and made stronger over time. It may feel scary and awkward at first, but eventually you will incorporate it as part of who you are…someone is emotionally honest, direct, caring and emotionally safe.

    Key Elements:

    • Look at all the parts that help us be more assertive.
    • Process why deeper healing and boundary work may be necessary.
    • Discuss the many benefits of speaking clearly and directly.

I think the reward for conformity

    is that everyone likes you

    except yourself

  • EP140 Building Connection: Assertive Behaviors

Welcome to Episode 140 where explore an important part of healthy connection: the ability to be assertive when necessary.

In this episode we take a quick dip into why being assertive means being honest, keeping the focus on ourselves, while taking care of our own needs and boundaries. I think being assertive is integral to our self-esteem, where we reveal our truth to others, letting go of what they think of it or do with it on their end. This means risking. If we cannot do this, then the communication isn't safe, because then we resort to more passive-aggressive ways of getting our needs met.

    Key Elements:

    • Compare and contrast healthy and unhealthy behaviors in communication.
    • Process what assertiveness isn't, to better understand what it is.
    • Focus on how being assertive is all about taking responsibility.

    Your ability to stand up

for your truth is a muscle,

and the more you exercise it

    the stronger it gets.
