Welcome to Episode 140 where explore an important part of healthy connection: the ability to be assertive when necessary.
In this episode we take a quick dip into why being assertive means being honest, keeping the focus on ourselves, while taking care of our own needs and boundaries. I think being assertive is integral to our self-esteem, where we reveal our truth to others, letting go of what they think of it or do with it on their end. This means risking. If we cannot do this, then the communication isn't safe, because then we resort to more passive-aggressive ways of getting our needs met.

for your truth is a muscle,
and the more you exercise it
the stronger it gets.

Welcome to Episode 139 where we talk about how taking the emotional risks in the moment is the only way to create genuine connection.
In this episode we take it a step braver. We are actually going to go a little more in depth about connection, and how important emotional intimacy is to our relationships. Why we NEED to bare our souls and be there when others bear theirs…to heal, to connect to belong and to feel alive. We need this to experience the richness of life.

Welcome to Episode 138 where we explore what to work on if we want to become more grounded and confident when we connect with others.
In this episode we talk about making the connection real…in the moment, and how so many of us struggle to feel confident and grounded enough to connect genuinely and take relational and emotional risks in real time. We talk about how confidence is built by doing some core work on our boundaries and self-trust, then by practicing healthier communication in the moment. By looking at some examples of how to show up more grounded, we also contrast this with ways NOT to. I then give some guidance to what to expect, what's normal, and what to focus on when you are practicing.

Welcome to Episode 137 where we give an overview of emotional connection, and ways this month we will dive into how to get better at it.
In this episode we do an overview of how this month we will be going a bit deeper on emotional connection, specifically ways to actually put it into practice. We defined it and talked about why it matters so much to our well-being and determines not only the quality of our relationships but the success and longevity of them. We then take a few moments to look within at what our beliefs and experiences of emotional intimacy are, and maybe where we want to start growing.

Welcome to Episode 136 where we define aspects of a truly trustworthy, emotionally safe person.
In this episode we discuss how trustworthy people are those who have SHOWN that they can be trusted. With our money, our time, our friendship, and our vulnerability. Clients who get themselves out of toxic relationships then ask me well Mar "Now What? I don't want to pick another unsafe person!" This episode is where we explore what characteristics trustworthy people have or are at least diligently working on.
Key Elements:
"We're never so vulnerable
than when we trust someone –
but paradoxically,
if we cannot trust,
neither can we find
love or joy."

Welcome to Episode 135 where we get honest about ways we can try to control outcomes rather than get close to people.
In this episode we get honest. Honest about some of the ways we can hide in our relationships, and even to the extent that we lose who we are and create enmeshment which just leads to resentment. We talk about self-abandonment, and the different ways we can play that out. When we do these things, we aren't being vulnerable, and we especially aren't being emotionally honest with ourselves or others. This hurts our connections and hurts our self-esteem.

Welcome to Episode 134 where we explore why our early experiences with boundary violations can imprint us to not let people in later.
In this episode we talk about an important aspect of the ability to be vulnerable, and that is all about our first experiences. The boundary issues that happened meant that our sense of self was threatened, our sense of emotional safety and trust and our ability to have a close, connected adult relationship…not to mention being healthier parents ourselves.

We need to feel trust
to be vulnerable
and we need to be
vulnerable in order
to trust."

Welcome to Episode 133 where we start the new year exploring why healthy connection with others is a core need, and how it isn't easy for everyone to establish.
In this episode we talk about how this month's focus will be on connection, why we need it, what healthy looks like and what is doesn't, and why even though it's so important, many of us are not that great at it. So, all month we're going to dive into this concept, and bring along many of the truths we've been talking about on the show, but I really don't think we can talk about them enough. We will be exploring the concept of healthy, vulnerable connections, why we may struggle to make and keep them, and how to work on having more meaningful ones every day.

Welcome to Episode 132 where we look ahead to what we want our life to look like in the coming year or so.
In this episode we identify what we want to either begin working on or continue to work on so we can reach our goal of becoming the best version of ourselves. Then we do the hard part: evaluating how ready we are to truly do this, as well as ways to get back on the horse if we fall off. This isn't a lofty idealistic episode about New Year's resolutions. It's about Let's get down to it realty about what you want and what is really possible.

Welcome to Episode 131 where we take a moment to do a year-end retrospective of our life.
In this episode we take a moment and look back on how your year has been…from things you are proud of, to the difficult things and all the learning, practicing, realizing and coming to terms with as you walk along. We benefit from the self-care of reflection, validation, and honesty as we evaluate what's happened and how far we've come.
