Today, with fidget spinners in hand, the Tunes & Tumblers regulars sit down with Waterparks’ Awsten Knight to sip on a spirit-free glass of cherry, cherry and, surprise surprise, tuna fish. Jk, it’s more cherry. While we discuss everything from synesthesia to Lilly’s cynical takes on music’s industrial commodification, we bop our heads and tap our toes to the tune of “Brainwashed,” Waterparks’ newest single off their upcoming album Intellectual Property. Cheers!

Continuing our '90s series, we're pleased to talk about Sponge and their hit "Plowed," and the memories and stories we associate with both! We talk about the band's origins, the epic music video, seeing them play at a late-night "secret show" at South by Southwest, and how they are still on the scene touring and making music.
On the way, we talk about recent concert experiences, including what it was like seeing the legendary New Order on their recent tour.

If you’ve ever watched a movie, you’ve heard music from John Williams. He’s one of the greatest classical music composers of the last 100 years and one of America’s most accomplished musicians. His music has won 5 Oscars, 25 Grammys, and four Golden Globes. The only person with more Academy Award nominations is Walt Disney himself.
The list of movies he’s written to the music to is practically a guide to American cinema: ET, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Home Alone, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Superman, Star Wars. Should I continue? He also wrote the music for the Olympics, Sunday Night Football,
On this episode of Prisoners of Rock and Roll, we’re going to mix it up and take a look at the music of John Williams.

We first had country music writer and aficionado David Cantwell on in 2019 to discuss his excellent book The Running Kind: Listening to Merle Haggard. The new edition expands on his earlier analysis and covers Haggard's death and afterlife as an icon of both old-school and modern country music; in fact, David considers it a whole new book!
We talk about the appreciation, opinion and perception of Merle since his death and, of course, the many Merle Haggard songs that have been covered by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Elvis Costello, Tammy Wynette, the Grateful Dead and many others!

Punk Rock Month rolls on! Week 2 is all about the musical brainchild of Greg Ginn, co-founder of Black Flag, the teenage owner of his electronics company, and head of SST Records! The Imbalanced Brothers explore the varied phases of the band, its somewhat fluid vocalist role, until they found the man who solidified the spot!
Both of the guys get into it, but Markus dives deep into the wormhole in this episode! His enthusiasm and knowledge shine throughout! As often happens they both discover things both forgotten, and previously unknown. Hope that you discover something, too!
