By 1987 Aerosmith had gone from 70s rock gods to broken up & broke to reunited while clean & sober.  The band and Geffen records desperately wanted a hit after 1984's overlooked Done With Mirrors.  Rock n Roll Hall of Famer John Kalodner suggested the band work with outside writers to generate some hits.  Steven Tyler and Joe Perry were reluctant at first but Desmond Child, Jim Vallance and Holly Knight helped get them on the charts with Dude Looks Like a Lady, Rag Doll and the megahit Angel.

Buoyed by their collaboration with Run DMC the year prior, the band went on to incredible success with over 5 million sold in the US.  That success would only grow in the coming years with Pump and Get a Grip and Permanent Vacation was their big comeback record.  MTV blasted their videos night and day which would continue through the next several albums as well.  It's fun to look back on this one as it changed Aerosmith's trajectory and is the cornerstone of the greatest comeback in rock.

It's been 3 months since I recorded the most recent episode of Love That Album. Real life interfered with being able to do something fun like speak into a microphone about great music. The show had to go into hiatus.

It's with the utmost joy I can say.....welcome to episode 161 of Love That Album.

The hiatus is going into....ummm...temporary hiatus as I present my annual episode of favourite discoveries / first time listens of the year. Normally, I speak with a number of my favourite co-presenters about what they enjoyed, but I wanted to get the show back on track in a quiet and easy way, so this time around it's just me.

I present 3 albums I heard for the first time in 2022...then I very briefly add a few more at the end of the show. What do I focus on???? You'll have to download to find out. I hope you'll enjoy my thoughts and recommendations.

Thanks to you, dear listener, for not unsubscribing LTA from your podcast app of choice....I assure you that I intend to do the show for a long time to come. A huge thanks to anyone who sent me messages to find out if I was alright.....your kindness has meant a lot to me.

Download this episode of LTA from your podcast app of choice. The wider back catalogue of episodes can also be found at http://lovethatalbumpodcast.blogspot.com.

Mark Thompson grew up loving radio, comedy, and with an appreciation for the absurd. These qualities made Mark uniquely qualified to create one of the most iconic morning radio shows in history. The Mark & Brian show started out in Birmingham, Alabama, but within a year, made its way to Los Angeles and 95.5 KLOS. It quickly became the #1 morning show in the #2 market. Mark & Brian were inducted into the Radio Hall Of Fame in 2020. Mark's memoir, Don't Bump The Record, Kid: My Adventures with Mark & Brian is out now, and he steps into our virtual studio to regale us with some of his (mis)adventures.
