Welcome to 2 Tone Legacy a special 10-part audio documentary series of the Ska Boom podcast that focuses on the stories behind the songs that contribute to the enduring legacy of 2 Tone music and its ongoing impact on popular culture. In each episode, I'll be joined by Paul Williams, author of "You're Wondering Now: The Specials from Conception to Reunion" and lead singer of UK 2-Tone band The Skapones. Paul is a noted 2 Tone expert and he'll be sharing his memories and insights on all the songs covered in this series.
While Bad Manners is probably best known for their more lighthearted songs like Special Brew, Can Can and Skinhead Love Affair, one of their most memorable songs may actually be Inner London Violence, the dark and mesmerizing song written shortly before the Brixton and Hackney riots of 1981 that convulsed London and led to similar uprisings in cities all across Britain. In this episode I speak with Bad Manners original guitarist Louis Alphonso about the story behind the song, Gangster Fun singer John Bunkley about how the song influenced him.
Ska Boom is hosted/produced by Marc Wasserman and co-produced/engineered by Rob George and appears on Pantheon Podcasts. Ska Boom is the audio companion to my book Ska Boom: An American Ska & Reggae Oral History available from DiWulf Publishing and Amazon.

This show is a first for the podcast. DYLYN is the first guest I’ve had that I saw live before having on the podcast. She opened for Mother Mother and I was so impressed that when the opportunity arose, I reached out and scheduled this. And I’m so glad I did. DYLYN is an old soul. We chatted about classic rock before we get down to the business of actually talking about HER music! Even though rock was what she grew up on, she began her career as a pop act, complete with background dancers.
But after a serious bout of burn out, she took some time off to go back to school. That’s when one of her dance tracks started getting traction.
She took the opportunity to pivot to the music she really wanted to write. She met up with Ryan Guldemond from Mother Mother to write some music and clicked immediately. She talks about horror movie influences, playing the same encore twice in one show, performing at a fan’s prom, and changing her name as she changed her sound.
She’s a fan of classic rock, classic Star Trek, and was once in a band called Robert’s Plant. So follow her @callmedylyn on social media. Get the new EP that’s out the same day as this podcast drops! Follow us @PerformanceAnx on social media. Treat us to coffee at ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety. Buy stuff with our logo. It was made by Soundgarden’s artist for Badmotorfinger! And check out the other shows on Pantheon Podcast Network. Rate & review us all! And without further ado, DYLYN on Performance Anxiety

Hollywood and Psychedelic history collide when comedian Hugh Romney, moves to LA where Lenny Bruce becomes his manager, improv icon Del Close becomes his roommate and writer-LSD-enthusiast Ken Kesey, becomes his fan! Wavy tells stories of Lenny’s tragic demise plus theatrical psychedelic shows and shenanigans with Del introducing history’s early laser light displays. Find out why The Byrds were involved in Hugh’s courtship of his lifelong love, Bonnie Jean aka Jahanarah and how the infamous Acid Tests (accompanied by house band, The Grateful Dead) evolved when 40 Merry Pranksters appeared unannounced on Hugh and Bonnie Jean’s doorstep, ushering in the memorable question, “Can You Pass the Acid Test?”. Veteran rock ’n’ roll tunesmith Marshall Crenshaw's beloved body of work encompasses ten studio albums as well as a variety of EPs, compilations and live discs. Marshall got his first break in 1978, playing John Lennon in the musical Beatlemania. His songs such as "Someday, Someway", "Cynical Girl" and "Whenever You're On Mind" and the co-write "Til I Hear It From You" by Gin Blossoms are timeless. He has also appeared in motion pictures; portrayed Buddy Holly in the 1987 film La Bamba and has had his songs covered by the likes of Bette Midler, Robert Gordon and Ronnie Spector. He also regained ownership of the five acclaimed albums he released on Razor & Tie and has been working with The Smithereens.

At the start of the penultimate episode of Backstage Pass, giving more than a unique insight behind the scenes into the world of rock and roll, you can hear about a band coming to blows, which was not unusual, doing the hard yards and making the deals, having your own wizard in the company cupboard, making waves of the ocean kind and taking to the high seas, a glowing press review which led to strained relations, the start of big outdoor shows in the UK, the gentleman star drummer who didn’t have a backstage pass and fell foul of onstage security and ESP Lighting giving birth to EST, a trucking company and how they both keep rolling.
