Look out! Intermission 3 is here, and it's bringing you a whole new challenge. Just like the sports challenge from the first intermission (which we haven't forgotten about - Nate just hasn't developed his film yet!), this brings with it no prize but a bit of internet fame and the pleasure of engaging in a fun game.
This time round it is a Cheap Camera Challenge; you have exactly twenty Pounds, Dollars, Euros or equivalent (200 Krona, 2000 Yen, 200 HK Dollars, 250 Pesos - We can't list them all but you get the idea) to find and buy a camera (with lens if it's an SLR/rangefinder), a roll of film and to get it developed.
Important points:
- Your budget is inflexible. Going over is going bust.
- The exception is printing; the development cost in the budget is JUST the developing. If you don't have a scanner and need prints or lab scans, you can extend your budget to accommodate that extra expense.
- You only use what you buy. No using filters, lenses, flashes or other accessories you already own. This also applies to cameras you already own. You must purchase something new to you.
- You can only buy local - meaning face-to-face purchases only. Pretend it's 1990 and eBay doesn't exist. Get out there and walk the streets until you find something.
- If you can only find a multipack of film, that's what you've got to budget for. No buying a three-pack, dividing the cost by three and only declaring the per-roll cost. You might be able to fool us but Jesus IS watching.
- Although we're not going to fail you if you buy a plastic 90's compact, we will judge you. Aim higher, people.
- You have until the end of June to buy a camera, and until July the 15th to get your roll developed.
Throughout this challenge there'll be a topic on the Pdexposures Flickr group for discussion and sharing of our experiences and results, and at some point after the 15th, those with the best stories to tell will have the opportunity to write a guest post on Pdexposures.tv to share them with the world!
The music, as is the general way with intermissions, is provided to us by Pdexposures listener Ki Choquette. His beautiful drone-based music can be found at http://kichoquette.bandcamp.com, and is available both on cassette and pay-what-you-want MP3 download. Go give him some money so he can finally buy that MP he's dreaming of.
If you have any questions, don't be afraid to get in touch with us at www.pdexposures.com or via Twitter - Tony can be reached at @coldkennels, Nate is @NMatosPDX, and Simon is also known as @lenire.
Now get hunting!
