Perfect Movie

It’s a Steven’s Choice for Father’s Day, and he does his best to prove that this frothy, light, low-stakes movie about a semi-obsessive dad and his entitled daughter (and his goofy wedding planner! Don’t forget him!) does what it sets out to do and is, indeed perfect.

Welcome to the 90s, Mr. Banks!

We had to do a last-minute pivot, but you could do a lot worse than The Firm as your Plan B! We talk fun first acts, diabetes, bald caps, money, the magic of ’93, film adaptions of novels (including Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, and Stephen King), racks of ribs, and Tom Cruise running.

This is a long-awaited (for us, anyway) and super-fun one! Happy Listening!

Wormholes! Dust storms! Crying! TARS! Playing baseball in space! Organ music! With all that, how could a movie NOT be perfect? Join us as we take a deep dive into Interstellar and our feelings around it. And keep an eye out on Instagram to vote for yourself on whether Interstellar is a Perfect Movie. Happy watching, happy time bending, and happy listening!

It’s race month for the Gomers, and they’re putting THE running movie on trial. They discuss the unique “about-something-ness” of sports movies, running in wool trousers and suspenders, and electronic music scores. And of course, a ton of fun stuff along the way!

Happy Running – and Happy Viewing!

We asked for your vote, and you gave it! January is now Star Wars month on Perfect Movie, and 2022 is the OG: Star Wars, Episode IV: A New Hope! We talk our own Star Wars origin stories and what made this movie the cultural touchstone that it is. Also, a couple big things you’ve probably heard a million times and a million little things you won’t hear anywhere else. We love this movie. We are Star Wars guys. Hopefully you have as much fun with this one as we did!

Oft discussed over the past 14 years, we finally put Spielberg’s least favorite movie on trial. Does it achieve Perfect status despite, or even because of, its flaws (á la A Charlie Brown Christmas)? Or will Julia Roberts’ pixie cut push Steven over the edge? Anthony and guest Kosmos Ververelli, both unabashed fans, do what they can in the Gomer Court of Law. The rest is up to you. And your happy thought.

Bangarang!

Graylin Porter (the Blue Dot Podcast, the “It’s Too %$*#! Hot Out” episode of Runner’s Block) joins us to talk about her favorite movie of all time and to balance out our Harrys with her Sally as we discuss all things Meg Ryan, Billy Crystal, Carrie Fisher, Nora Ephron, and about a million other things because there’s so much to consider when trying to decide whether this movie is, in fact, perfect.

Pesto is the quiche of the 80s! Happy Listening!

Get in your station wagon, strap your bike to the roof, drive across the country and get ready to put one of our favorite movies on trial: The Karate Kid. Could you really train for – and win – a championship between Halloween and Christmas? Would painting a fence work to defend yourself against super-bullies? And just WHO is playing that glorious pan flute?

The summer of “movies we just love and have wanted to talk about for a long time” continues with one we’ve been mentioning on the podcast for 12 years: City Slickers! We talk what-if casting, mid-life crises, and whether you could actually own a cow in NYC. Happy yeehaw-ing!
