We thought, after Return of the Jedi, we’d do a nice simple one with no pressure. Both of us do our best to respond to people who have asked us “Why would YOU like THAT movie?” If you don’t agree…well, I guess we could just put a horse head in your bed and see if that helps.

Sylvester Stallone has the perfect face for a boxing movie. But does his writing and acting elevate this 70s classic into Perfect Movie territory? It’s our final movie of 2023, and we’re going out with a bang as we put Rocky on trial. Pet stores! Sweatsuits! Boxer catalogues! Kissing! Throwing turkeys out into back alleys! One-armed pushups! This movie has it all.  Except a win, of course.

Two regular guys discuss four little women – what’s better on a crisp fall day? It’s a Steven’s Choice, and the guys’ first foray into 19th century literature. Gentlemen calling! Leather binding! Book burning! Star-crossed loving! Writing montaging! Simultaneous timeline running! This movie is real good, and Anthony even experiences a little bit of patriotism because of it.

Two Gomers talk Three Maniacs – Paul Reubens, Tim Burton, and Danny Elfman – who made a  movie that has had a massive cultural impact on the landscape of film over the past 40 years…and it’s about a guy who lost his bike. Also: which sneakers did we wear, or wish we wore, in the 90s? Who’s better, Ernest or Clifford? Why weren’t there more monster truck shows on Saturday mornings? And if you love that fruit salad so much, why don’t you marry it?

RIP Paul Reubens. You made something perfect here and you’re awesome.

What is there to say about this movie that hasn’t been said on hundreds of other podcasts? We don’t know, but we manage to fill up almost two hours gushing and marveling and loving this film. We talk action cold opens, Tom Selleck, the difference between sets and set-pieces, flies crawling into Nazis’ mouths, God slamming things shut, and the perfect postlude. Indy, we love ya.

Party on, Anthony! Party on, Steven! We (finally!) watch this gem of a 90s comedy, and remember the joy of the 90s with gusto. Can I movie this fun be perfect as well? We hope so…Khan needs this one.
