• Dozens of people were forced out of their Northeast Philadelphia apartments Thursday night after flames tore through the building. The four-alarm fire took nearly three hours to get under control.
• The city and its white-collar workers union squared off in Common Pleas Court Thursday as the union seeks an injunction to block Mayor Cherelle Parker’s in-person back-to-work order. The hearing continues today.
• Police arrested a suspect who they say shot an innocent bystander earlier this week in Wildwood, New Jersey.
• There's one more series to go for the Phillies before the All-Star break.

• Three minors were injured, including a toddler, when gunfire erupted down a quiet North Philly street Thursday night.
• John Dougherty, former head of Philadelphia electricians union IBEW Local 98, will spend six years in prison for his conviction on federal bribery and embezzlement charges. The sentence was handed down Thursday in federal court.
• Gov. Josh Shapiro signed off on a $47.6 billion budget Thursday night, which includes increases to public education, economic development and transit systems.
• Blobfest returns to Phoenixville this weekend. The festival that celebrates the classic sci-fi movie "The Blob" turns 25 this year — and organizers have planned the biggest Blobfest yet.

• A convenience store clerk was shot and killed during a possible robbery in the Frankford section of Philadelphia early Thursday morning.
• It'll cost drivers $1 more to cross the four Delaware Port Authority bridges effective Aug. 1, under a plan green-lit by a Delaware River Port Authority committee.
• The 2024 Transplant Games of America wrapped up Wednesday in Birmingham, Alabama. Team Philly has made quite a showing, racking up more than 100 medals.

• Mayor Cherelle Parker may lose in her effort to bring all city workers back to the office full time. A judge on Thursday will hear a request by the city’s white-collar workers union to halt the action. But the mayor has made it clear: If she goes down, she’ll go down swinging.

• Philadelphia prosecutors will not pursue the death penalty for the man charged with first-degree murder in last year’s shooting death of Temple University Police Sgt. Christopher Fitzgerald.

• The excessive heat warning we have been under has expired. Although temperatures remained warm as the sun went down, it didn’t stop Phillies fans from packing Citizens Bank Park and seeing the team stay hot in a hard-fought 4-3 win against the Dodgers.

• Federal prosecutors are charging 54-year-old Gregory Stefan, Jr. of Upper Merion with seven federal counts of wire fraud after they say he sold headstones to hundreds of families in Pennsylvania and New Jersey from 2018-2023 who were trying to lay their loved ones to rest and did not deliver.

• The uncomfortable and dangerous heat is sticking around for another day. An excessive heat warning is in place through tonight. KYW's Tim Jimenez has more from the Art  Museum.
• People who live in Old City have a lot of concerns about a plan to move the Greyhound bus terminal to a parking garage near Second and Chestnut streets — right next to a preschool — but city officials left a public meeting Tuesday night before it even started. KYW's Sunny Morgan tells us why.
• The annual summertime shutdown of SEPTA's trolley tunnel starts this Friday night. KYW's Mike DeNardo reports.
• Does your kid dream of playing for the sixers? The team is hosting 10 basketball camps across the area. KYW South Jersey reporter Mike Dougherty stopped by the first one, in Camden.

• Community members in Old City came out by the dozens to share their thoughts about a proposed bus terminal, pitched to sit at a parking garage, right next door to a preschool. They hoped to voice concerns to city officials but were disappointed when they left before it started.
• The Philadelphia Parking Authority is alerting the public about a recent text scam. The message says the recipient owes money for unpaid parking tickets and includes a link to make a payment, but don't click on it, officials urge.
• A dangerous heat wave over the last few days has been making work more challenging for many in our area. 
• The Department of Housing and Urban Development on Tuesday announced the return of a program designed to help home-buyers purchase fixer-uppers.

The KYW Newsradio All-Local - Tuesday, July 9, 2024 (Evening Edition):

• Lower Merion Police say the body of 84-year-old Nadine Beech was found in Bryn Mawr Tuesday afternoon. Beech went missing after she walked out of Waverly Heights, a senior care center in Gladwyne, around 10:15 Monday morning.
• New Jersey Democratic power broker George Norcross has pleaded not guilty to state racketeering charges. He and four other co-defendants appeared in state Superior Court in Mercer County today to enter their pleas, including former Camden Mayor Dana Redd.
• Dealing with the extreme heat is harder for some than others. Business must go on despite the dangerous heatwave that’s now in its sixth day. KYW’s Conner Barkon talked to some workers who are doing what they can to stay cool and keep things operating.
• A new look is coming to the vehicles of Pennsylvania drivers. As KYW’s Justin Udo tells us, the commonwealth is rolling out some new license plates and road signs as they prepare for the nation's semiquincentennial.

• One of two teens who escaped from a youth detention center in Berks County is still on the loose Tuesday morning, police said. They are searching Bucks County, where the boy is from. The other teen was taken into custody on Monday.
• Pennsylvania could soon adopt a ban on devices that flip vehicle license plates.
• The city is set to announce an ambitious $100 million effort to make the Avenue of the Arts livelier, greener, and, well, artsier.
