• A 15-year-old boy, who acted as lookout for three shooters and a getaway driver, and who helped coordinate the March 6 mass shooting in Northeast Philadelphia, is now in custody, according to Philadelphia police.
• The Philadelphia-area nonprofit The Wardrobe is celebrating National Smart and Sexy Day by outfitting women in need with appropriate work and job interview attire for free.
• Surgeons at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston made history with the first successful transplant of a genetically modified pig kidney into a living person. This comes on the heels of researchers in Philadelphia who took a pig liver one step closer to human transplant viability. These breakthroughs could one day ease the logjam of human organ transplants.

• Amid a rash of gun crimes, SEPTA has ended a pilot program that used artificial intelligence to detect guns on the system.
• Philadelphia City Council members got into a rare public tiff at Thursday’s meeting, when the Council president refused to allow a woman to speak about the war in Gaza during the public comment period.
• Wednesday marked the official start of spring, but some unseasonable heat earlier in March brought an early beginning to allergy season.

The KYW Newsradio All-Local — Thursday, March 21, 2024 (Evening Edition):

• Police arrest a fifth suspect in connection to the mass shooting at a SEPTA bus stop in Burholme that injured eight Northeast High School students two weeks ago. At a press conference Thursday afternoon authorities said the 15-year-old suspect was the lookout. KYW Newsradio's Matt Coughlin has the latest.

• A Montgomery County jury found two people guilty of murdering a woman in the drive-thru of a Cheltenham Dunkin, while her 11-year-old son was in the back seat. KYW Newsradio Suburban Bureau Chief Jim Melwert reports.

• Tensions ran high Thursday at Philadelphia City Council when the council president cut off a speaker during public comments. KYW Newsradio’s City Hall bureau chief Pat Loeb has the story.

• It was moving day for the Battleship New Jersey, which is long overdue for painting and maintenance. It’ll stop first at a dock in Paulsboro before ending up at the Navy Yard. KYW Newsradio South Jersey reporter Mike Dougherty was at the dock as the ropes came off.

• Authorities are investigating after a body was found inside a burning garage in Southwest Philadelphia.
• A quick-thinking police officer likely saved several lives during a three-alarm fire in Royersford, Montgomery County on Wednesday.
• A Philadelphia man is accused of stealing a handful of cars around the city with an unconventional and rather conspicuous tool. Police say Lamarr Miller, 44, used his tow truck to bring the vehicles to a junkyard.

• Philadelphia's Greyhound bus terminal may be moving to yet another temporary location -- across the street from its current spot in Northern Liberties. 
• A City Council committee on Wednesday passed a bill that would require tax preparation companies to inform low-income clients that they are entitled to free help with their tax return, despite hints from industry witnesses that the bill might be challenged on First Amendment grounds.
• The popular Southeast Asian market at FDR Park announced it would delay its opening this spring, but fear not. It’s not going anywhere. The market is in the process of electing its first board, a move those involved in the process say will give the market and its community the voice and power it needs long into its planned future.

• The last remaining suspect from the bus stop shooting in Northeast Philadelphia that wounded eight teenagers was taken into custody. KYW Newsradio's Tim Jimenez reports U.S. marshals found him in Virginia.
• Fire crews worked for hours to extinguish a blaze that destroyed the clubhouse of a 55-plus community in Montgomery County. KYW Newsradio's Conner Barkon reports from South Wales.
• Students at Philadelphia's Edison High School now have an extra incentive to behave well and get good grades. They can earn time in the school's new e-gaming room. We get the story from KYW Newsradio education reporter Mike DeNardo.

• U.S. marshals in Virginia on Tuesday caught the fourth suspect wanted in connection with the March 6 mass shooting in Burholme. They say he was hiding in an Alexandria apartment with a woman who has ties to Philadelphia.
• A Philadelphia judge upheld five murder charges and four attempted murder charges against Kimbrady Carriker, the man accused of gunning down nine people in Kingsessing last summer. 
• Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are calling for an overhaul of New Jersey’s school funding formula, as they say it is too unpredictable year to year and leaves many school districts caught off guard.
• The Drexel University women’s basketball team is headed to the NCAA tournament. The Dragons are the No. 16 seed in the Portland Regional and will open up against the top-seed Texas Friday afternoon.

• The fourth suspect wanted in connection to the mass shooting that injured eight Northeast High students at a SEPTA bus stop in Burholme has been captured.
• An emotional day in a Philadelphia courtroom, as the man accused of killing five people and injuring four in the Kingsessing neighborhood last July finally has his preliminary hearing. 
• Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle say New Jersey’s school funding formula is too unpredictable year to year leaving many districts caught off guard. 
• There's a little too much of the Atlantic in Atlantic City. Weeks of winter storms have washed away much of the sand from the gambling resort's north-end beaches. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has a sand replenishment project planned, but it might not start until late summer or the fall. So now, Ocean, Resorts and Hard Rock casinos are asking the feds to speed it up.
