• Hundreds of pro-Palestinian protestors, calling for an end to the war in Gaza, blocked the Vine Street Expressway for nearly an hour Saturday afternoon. Police say they were part of the group "Party for Socialism and Liberation" and that state and city police arrested nearly 70 of them.
• After the collapse of the Key Bridge, anyone with potential travel plans out of the Port of Baltimore may want to contact a travel advisor.
• Philadelphia City Council’s effort to ban gambling machines in corner stores is being challenged in Common Pleas Court.
• In preparation for America’s 250th birthday in two years, 34 new historical markers will be placed around Camden County to better highlight its history. KYW’s Nigel Thompson was in Lawnside, New Jersey, where a new marker commemorates some of the Black soldiers from the American Revolution.
• The Philadelphia office of the FBI is now accepting applications for a summer program that teaches teenagers about career opportunities at the Bureau.

• Police in Upper Merion have arrested a man accused of breaking into his neighbor’s apartment and installing a hidden camera. As KYW Newsradio’s Nigel Thompson reports, police believe his neighbor may not be the only victim.
• From cruises to highways, the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge after a cargo ship lost power and crashed will certainly have an impact on travel, which could trickle to our region. KYW Newsradio’s Nina Baratti reports.
• Meteorologists are predicting more storms, more hurricanes and more hurricanes hitting the U.S. coastline than any year before. KYW Newsradio’s Matt Coughlin has the details.

• The first game of the Phillies’ 2024 season is in the books, and it was not a good one for the home fans. KYW Newsradio’s Mike DeNardo reports.
• A federal judge has ruled in favor of Congressman Andy Kim in his quest to end the county line ballot structure for elections in New Jersey. KYW Newsradio South Jersey reporter Mike Dougherty spoke with a political analyst about what it means for elections moving forward.
• Pennsylvania was the first state in the nation to fund a home repair program to keep families in affordable housing, but lawmakers failed to fund the program last year. Gov. Josh Shapiro is hoping to get it funded this year and, as part of the effort, he toured a West Philadelphia home that was saved through the program. KYW Newsradio City Hall Bureau Chief Pat Loeb was there.
• Pennsylvania State Police has created social media accounts to gather tips from the public on active investigations, cold cases, and missing persons. KYW Newsradio’s Vik Raghupathi reports the new accounts supplement traditional tools like the state police tip-line and website.

• A day later than originally scheduled, the Phillies are set to take on the Braves to a sold-out Opening Day crowd at Citizens Bank Park.

• New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez will not appeal a judge’s ruling on Constitutional grounds that would have delayed his May trial, his lawyers said Thursday.
• A 32-year-old Philadelphia man who directed a scheme to steal diesel fuel from gas stations has been sentenced to nearly six years in prison.

The KYW Newsradio All-Local on Friday, March 29, 2024 (morning edition):

• Penn graduate student workers will vote to unionize in two and a half weeks, and they’re still on the offensive alongside newly unionized workers on campus still looking for a contract. A new coalition of unions joined elected officials to call out the university for what they called “union-busting” tactics.

• The superintendent of Philadelphia schools says he’s working on a way to curb the disruptive practice of “leveling,” a controversial practice of shifting teachers to match actual enrollment.

• Retired Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer gave a talk at the Constitution Center Thursday evening, where he disavowed the strict legal philosophy that led SCOTUS to overturn Roe v. Wade.

The KYW Newsradio All-Local for Thursday, March 28, 2024 (Evening Edition):

• A 21-year-old man has been arrested and charged with the shooting of a teen at a North Philly recreation center last spring. As KYW's Crime and Justice reporter Kristen Johanson tells us, the defendant was convicted of gun charges just months prior to the incident.
• Stories about squatter’s rights have made national headlines recently. Notably, a TV news crew in New York City captured a property dispute on video. Now Republicans in New Jersey say more needs to be done to protect property owners.
• Philadelphia’s open intake animal shelter is sadly being forced to euthanize dogs for space.  KYW’s John McDevitt reports the facility is full and if you were thinking of adopting a dog, now is the time to save a life!
• A federal appeals judge has struck down a lower court ruling that said the rule requiring Pennsylvania voters to date the outside of their mail-in ballots went against civil rights law. KYW's Conner Barkon has more on the decision.

• A double shooting in Germantown left a teenage boy dead and another wounded Wednesday night. It was also a very close call for a man who happened to be driving by at that time, as a stray bullet went through his window and narrowly missed him.

• A federal appeals court has ruled that mail-in ballots with missing or incorrect dates on the outer envelope should not be counted in Pennsylvania. This decision strikes down a lower court ruling, which said the ballot envelope date requirement is a violation of civil rights law.

• Every time a Phillies player hits a triple, either at home or away, the Phandemic Krew will donate $100 to the Pennsylvania SPCA in honor of a fellow fan and animal lover.

• Philadelphians are known for their quirky parking habits, but if you park on the sidewalk, beware: The Philadelphia Parking Authority is coming for you.
• A school district in Burlington County has discriminated against women on maternity leave, according to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office.
• With rain in the forecast for Thursday, the Phillies postponed their scheduled season opener until Friday at 3:05 p.m. Fans heading to Citizens Bank Park for that first pitch — or anytime after that — should take note of a change to the bag policy. If you can't see through it, you may want to leave that bag at home.

The KYW Newsradio All-Local for Wednesday, March 27, 2024 (Evening Edition):

• For the second year in a row, a rainy forecast has caused the Phillies to push back their home opener. Tickets for the sold out game will still be valid.
• Starting Wednesday, the Philadelphia Police Department will be giving away free steering wheel locks to protect certain Kia and Hyundai vehicles that are susceptible to theft.
• A Northeast Philadelphia man has been arrested and charged for a fatal DUI vehicle crash that happened last November in Cheltenham Township.
• A $250 million renovation project in FDR Park is now facing a lawsuit from neighbors who say the work is an environmental hazard.
• The wait is almost over. One of Philadelphia's most popular cheesesteak joints — Jim's Steaks on South Street — has teased in a Facebook post that it's targeting a reopening date in May. The restaurant has been closed for a year and a half after a fire that gutted the building and a neighboring gallery.

• Dr. Christopher Peters, a professor in Drexel’s College of Engineering, says when he saw the news that the ship in Baltimore lost power and struck a main bridge support early Tuesday it brought back memories from more than 30 years ago when he was in the Navy.  
• The family of an elderly Philadelphia man beaten to death with traffic cones by a group of kids last year says they are frustrated with the justice system after one teen arrested had charges tossed and the other landed in juvenile court. 
• Someone in New Jersey hit the Mega Millions last night.
