• Dr. Christopher Peters, a professor in Drexel’s College of Engineering, says when he saw the news that the ship in Baltimore lost power and struck a main bridge support early Tuesday it brought back memories from more than 30 years ago when he was in the Navy.  
• The family of an elderly Philadelphia man beaten to death with traffic cones by a group of kids last year says they are frustrated with the justice system after one teen arrested had charges tossed and the other landed in juvenile court. 
• Someone in New Jersey hit the Mega Millions last night.

• Construction is already underway on barriers that would protect the Delaware Memorial Bridge from the type of collision in Baltimore early Tuesday morning.
• Authorities in Delaware County have called off the search for a young girl who fell into the Chester Creek over the weekend.
• Philadelphia City Council had a lot of questions about Mayor Cherelle Parker’s spending priorities as budget hearings got underway on Tuesday. One big area of focus was the triage centers the mayor proposed to address addiction and related issues.
• Six Family Dollar stores in Philadelphia are among the 600 locations planned to close this year.

The KYW Newsradio All-Local for Tuesday, March 26, 2024 (Evening Edition):

• The Francis Scott Keys Bridge in Baltimore came crashing down into the Patapsco River around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday when a container ship lost power and rammed into one of the bridge’s support columns. Six workers on the bridge at the time of the crash are presumed dead. KYW's Tim Jimenez has the story from Baltimore.
• Recovery efforts in Delaware County have ended for a 6-year-old girl who fell into Chester Creek over the weekend. Dogs were called in Tuesday to help with the search, but came up with nothing. KYW’s Conner Barkon has more from Chester.
• A New Jersey couple has pleaded guilty to running an online love scam operation that took millions of dollars from their victims. Details from KYW South Jersey reporter Mike Dougherty.
• Drivers in the Garden State will soon be paying a little more to fill up their tanks. New Jersey’s gas tax is going up by two cents per gallon each year for the next five years. Gov. Phil Murphy signed the legislation Tuesday, saying the money will go to the Transportation Trust Fund, where it is sorely needed.

• The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed after it was struck by a container skip early Tuesday morning. The ship said it lost power and issued a mayday call moments before the crash. Two people were rescued from the river, but at least six more remain unaccounted for.
• In Delaware County, rescue crews are still searching for a 6-year-old girl who fell into Chester Creek on Saturday.
• Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker’s administration has imposed strict controls on her staff’s interaction with reporters, which can hinder coverage of city government.

• Students who witness trauma may act out at school — or drop out, and their school may never realize why. Through a $1 million federal grant, the Philadelphia School District and Police Department are launching a new program that alerts schools when a student witnesses violence and is affected by trauma in their neighborhoods.

• Crews are back searching for a 6-year-old girl who was swept away in Chester Creek on Saturday. Officials have shifted the operation from rescue to recovery.
• Aramark food service workers at the Wells Fargo Center voted overwhelmingly on Sunday to allow their contract negotiating committee to authorize a strike if new contract negotiations continue to stall.
• A total solar eclipse will be visible across North America on April 8. From Philadelphia’s vantage point, the moon will cover 90% of the sun, going dark for nearly four minutes. The Franklin Institute is hosting a free watch party.

• New Jersey first lady Tammy Murphy is out of the race for U.S. Senate. It comes after the current Sen. Bob Menendez announced he won't be running in the primary as a Democrat.
• Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker is taking an unusual, new approach to funding her priorities by adding them to the current year’s budget, rather than waiting for the new fiscal year to begin in July. 
• We are just two weeks away from the highly anticipated solar eclipse. The afternoon sky will go dark for nearly four minutes as the moon passes between the sun and the Earth. There will be viewing parties throughout the region, including one giant block party outside The Franklin Institute.

• A six year girl slipped and fell into Chester Creek yesterday around 7 p.m. KYW’s Vik Raghupathi is in Delaware County and has the latest on rescue efforts.
• Philadelphia is breaking a record set in 1872 for the most rainfall in a single day in March. The rain has come and gone, but people in parts of South Jersey are still pumping water out of their backyards.
• Nearly 11,000 runners are believed to have laced up this morning for Philadelphia's Love Run Half Marathon. For runners who didn't want to go the full 13 miles, there was a 7K, too.
• Philadelphia City Council begins budget hearings this week, and child advocates lost no time asking them to make changes to Mayor Parker’s $6.3 billion spending plan.
• Philadelphia police haven’t made any arrests, but they have recovered two gun after a man was shot and killed and another injured on Rising Sun Avenue in North Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon.

• A 6-year-old girl went missing in Chester on Saturday after she fell into Chester Creek and got swept away.
• Record rain brought flood warnings across the Philly region, and some residents in South Jersey have been pumping water out of their backyards.

• Food service and hospitality workers at Wells Fargo Center have voted on whether to authorize a strike against Aramark. We're expecting to learn the results of these votes later on Sunday.
