• Police have released new surveillance video of the 17-year-old murder suspect who escaped custody after a trip to the hospital Wednesday — and as KYW Newsradio Crime and Justice reporter Kristen Johanson explains, authorities now have a man in custody that they believe was the teen's getaway driver.

• The battle over whether or not the Sixers will get an arena neighboring Chinatown persists, with organizers against the arena rallying outside City Hall Thursday. As KYW Newsradio’s Nigel Thompson reports, it was on City Council's first day back in session with the new administration.

• Philadelphia firefighters and police responded to reports of a fire and gunshots around 3:30 a.m. along the 3800 block of North Marshall Street. After the blaze on the porch was put out, investigators say they discovered several bullet holes in the front door of the home. 

• A ruling has come down and the fate of Germantown’s Colored Girls Museum is no longer up in the air. KYW Newsradio's Shara Dae Howard has the story.

• Police are still looking for a juvenile detainee, 17-year-old Shane Pryor, who escaped from custody while at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Wednesday afternoon. Pryor has been detained since he was 14, awaiting trial on a murder charge.
• SEPTA riders are beginning to see real-time countdown clocks indicating when the next Market-Frankford Line train will arrive. Officials say, however, that the service isn't ready for prime time yet.
• Philadelphia is well-represented again this year by the James Beard Awards. It released its list of 2024 semifinalists on Wednesday.

• A Delaware County woman is charged with felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals for allegedly torturing and killing animals live on Youtube. KYW Newsradio Suburban Bureau Chief Jim Melwert reports.

• New Jersey’s Board of Public Utilities has approved two new offshore wind projects, as it pushes forward despite some recent setbacks. KYW Newsradio South Jersey reporter Mike Dougherty has the story.

• Social media has been abuzz with pictures of those long-awaited countdown clocks in service along SEPTA's Market-Frankford Line. But riders' excitement is premature, as we hear from KYW Newsradio's Mike DeNardo.

• PECO says there has been a recent rise in “spoofing” — instances in which scammers call to get people to cough up money they don’t actually owe.
• The widow of Temple University Police Sgt. Christopher Fitzgerald says she saw "no empathy, just an evil human being" when she faced her husband's accused killer in court on Tuesday. 
• Pennsylvania is failing in its efforts to prevent smoking, according to the American Lung Association. In its 22nd annual State of Tobacco Control report released on Wednesday, the American Lung Association graded all 50 states on their tobacco control policies, and Pennsylvania received mostly failing grades.

• A former Sharon Hill police officer who was assigned as a school resource officer at Academy Park High School is ordered to stand trial on rape and child-sexual-assault charges in Chester County.

• A 35-year-old man has been arrested, accused of being behind the wheel in a hit-and-run that killed a teenage boy in Bensalem.

• Dozens of hospitals throughout the region have launched a new safety campaign aimed at preventing child gun deaths and injuries by encouraging parents to ask questions about guns and gun storage.

• SEPTA plans to erect more substantial fencing in the concourse under City Hall, by replacing chain link fencing in the South Broad concourse between 13th and 15th streets with steel panels and gates.

The KYW Newsradio All-Local — Tuesday, January 23, 2024 (Evening Edition):

• The number of accidental gun deaths among children is on the rise. Officials say last year alone there were about 377 unintentional shootings involving children nationwide. Now, 59 Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware hospitals have collaborated in the launch of a new child gun safety campaign. KYW Newsradio’s Hadas Kuznits has more.

• A former cop who worked as a school resource officer at Academy Park High School will stand trial on charges of rape, and sexual assault of children in Chester County. KYW Newsradio Suburban Bureau Chief Jim Melwert reports.

• A raccoon killed by a pet dog in Gloucester Township has tested positive for rabies. But health department officials say there doesn't appear to be any exposure to humans, only a potential threat to the dog. KYW Newsradio's John McDevitt explains.

• SEPTA plans to beef up the security gates in the concourses under City Hall and at 8th and Market streets. KYW Newsradio’s Mike DeNardo reports.

• Bucks County officials say the 911 computer system is down because of a cybersecurity incident—though they emphasize you will still be able to call for help if you need it.
• Philly police want you to take a look at new surveillance video posted on their social media of the man suspected of stabbing a Temple University employee. 
• An unreliable heater at a Germantown elementary school broke down again. This time the kids were moved to a high school, but parents weren't notified until after the move. That didn't sit too well with some parents.
• Joel Embiid is taking his game to another level and making history in the process. 

The KYW Newsradio All-Local on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024 (morning edition):

• Residents and businesses in Norristown that were without water after a main broke yesterday had their service restored. And in Delran, New Jersey, residents who were affected by a sewer line collapse are no longer being asked to conserve water. 
• An unreliable heater at a Germantown elementary school broke down again. This time, a lingering odor after the repair prompted the students to be relocated — but parents were not immediately notified. That didn’t sit well with them.
• Dayron Burney-Thorn, 17, has been held for trial in the mass shooting outside Roxborough High School in 2022 that killed 14-year-old Nicolas Elizalde and wounded four others.

• Drivers, start planning alternate routes now. PennDOT plans to close northbound I-95 at Columbus Boulevard for an entire weekend next month.

• As we approach the four-year mark since COVID-19, Philadelphia public schools are still seeing fewer 5-year-olds enrolled in kindergarten compared to pre-pandemic times.

The KYW Newsradio All-Local - Monday, January 22, 2024 (Evening Edition):

• Drivers, start planning alternate routes now. PennDOT plans to close northbound I-95 at Columbus Boulevard for an entire weekend next month.
• Philadelphia police are still investigating a fatal shooting inside Society Hill Towers near 2nd and Locust streets Sunday night. One person is in police custody. 

• Whether it’s a popular gigantic water flask or expensive skin care that no 11-year-old needs, kids have been going bonkers over retail trends for decades. But the fact that most of it happens on the internet — and to an increasingly younger audience — is an emerging trend in itself.

• Merion Golf Club in Ardmore will host the 2040 U.S. Open Championship. 
• Monday marks the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade, which guaranteed a woman’s right to an abortion. But Roe was overruled by the U.S. Supreme Court a year and a half ago and has become a major political issue.
