Alarmed by the closure of a rural hospital earlier this year, California lawmakers on Thursday voted to loan $150 million to struggling medical centers in the hope of preventing a cascade of similar failures across the state. The only hospital in Madera County closed in December, leaving the community of nearly 160,000 people with no medical center within a 30-minute drive. A town once deemed "most hippie" in Washington recently outlawed drug use after a spike in fentanyl overdoses that included the death of a 5-year-old girl. Edwin Williams, a city council member in Bellingham, Washington, said overdoses became so commonplace in his city that one dead body was left on a bench for 12 hours. Governor Newsom says, he has launched his “Campaign for Democracy” to help project California’s progressive values into the benighted red states of America, where Republican leaders make their citizens’ lives so much worse. President Joe Biden on Monday said the Transportation Department will propose later this year new regulations detailing how and when airlines must provide cash or other compensation and cover expenses for meals, lodging, and rebooking when carriers are responsible for stranding passengers.

Fourteen-year-olds in Wisconsin could serve alcohol to seated customers in bars and restaurants under a bill circulated for cosponsors Monday by a pair of Republican state lawmakers. The current age limit on serving alcohol “causes workforce issues due to an establishment’s underage employees only being able to do part of their job,” the bill sponsors Sen. Rob Stafsholt.

According to the Clovis Police Department, Andrew Dubbels, 47 of Fresno, set an RV on fire that was surrounded by homes near Peach and Shepherd, early Friday morning. A nearby neighbor was awakened by his dog, Charlie, that morning and he just happened to spot the fire. The Madera County Mosquito Vector District is kicking off its yearly giveaway with a free bucket full of mosquito fish. “They're not a perfect solution, but they do help out [with] keeping the numbers down," said Trinidad Reyes, the Operations Supervisor. President Joe Biden is facing new allegations that he participated in a "a bribery scheme with a foreign national" and Republicans are seeking information from the FBI about the matter. Responding to Russia's accusation that the U.S. was behind Wednesday's drone attack on the Kremlin, White House spokesperson John Kirby said it was a "ludicrous claim." Former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio and three other members of the far-right extremist group were convicted Thursday of a plot to attack the U.S. Capitol in a desperate bid to keep Donald Trump in power after the Republican lost the 2020 presidential election. A jury in Washington, D.C., found Tarrio and three lieutenants guilty of seditious conspiracy after hearing from dozens of witnesses over more than three months.
