  • Ep.78_Robin Sharma_The Victim Makes Excuses, The Leader Delivers Results

In today's podcast episode, Robin Sharma shares the idea that leadership is not solely determined by one's title or position within a company or government.  True leadership is an approach and a way of being, rather than a title or status. He guides you through some "rules" for leadership, including the idea that the leader focuses on possibilities, delivers results, and is monomaniacally focused on a few things.

Robin talks about the fact that most people live lives full of distractions and have lost their ability to think for themselves.

This is a great talk, and Robin Sharma is one of my favorite thought leaders.

Click here to watch the entire talk on Youtube.  If you have not listened to Episode 11 where I featured Robin's excellent book 'The Every day Hero Manifesto,' I would highly recommend listening to that episode as a follow-up to his message in this episode.

    Enjoy!

  • Ep.77_The Art Of Work_Jeff Goins

In this week's episode of Philosopher Insights, I share my favorite insights from 'The Art Of Work' by author Jeff Goins.

The path to your life's work is difficult and risky, even scary, which is why few finish the journey. This is a book about discovering your life's work, that treasure of immeasurable worth we all long for. It's about the task you were born to do.

Through personal experience and current research on the mysteries of motivation and talent, Jeff shows readers how to find their vocation and what they should expect along the way.

If you get some value from these insights, I would highly recommend reading the book  - especially if your purpose or calling is something that continues to elude you

  • Ep.76_Using IMPLEMENTATION INTENTIONS to achieve your GOALS in 2023

In this episode,  I share another powerful goal-setting strategy and the science behind Implementation Intentions and give you some examples and tips on how to create your own. I'll also share some real-life examples of Implementation Intentions I have used and continue to use to help me achieve my goals.

Implementation Intentions are easy to create. All you need to do is turn your goal into an "if-then" statement. For example, if your goal is to exercise more, your Implementation Intention might be "If it's Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, then I will go to the gym at 6 pm."

It's important to note that Implementation Intentions should be specific and realistic, and align with your goals, values, and motivation.

So, whether you're trying to lose weight, start a business, or learn a new skill, Implementation Intentions can help you turn your dreams into reality.

    Enjoy!

  • Ep.73_The Light We Carry_Michelle Obama

In this week's edition of the podcast,I shared my favorite insights from 'The Light We Carry' by former first lady Michelle Obama.

Michelle Obama believes that despite the lack of easy solutions to life's difficult challenges, we can all find and utilize a set of tools to help us adapt to change and stay grounded in uncertain times. In her book, The Light We Carry, she engages in an honest conversation with readers about topics such as how to build strong and genuine relationships, how to find strength and connection through diversity, and how to deal with feelings of self-doubt and overwhelm.

Michelle Obama shares the personal habits and principles she has learned and developed through her roles as a mother, daughter, spouse, friend, and First Lady, in order to adapt to change and overcome challenges. In doing so, she offers the wisdom she has gained from her own experiences to help others "become" more resilient in the face of change.

  • Ep.72_Patrick Bet-David_"I WANT versus I WILL'

In today's Philosopher Byte, I introduce Patrick Bet-David, who shares a timely message as we embark on 2023.

Declaring your intentions can be a powerful way to commit to taking action and achieving a goal. It can also help to hold you accountable for your actions and help you stay motivated. This is exemplified in a story about a son who declares his intention to be the greatest fighter in the world and has the opportunity to improve his performance as a result. By declaring an intention and making it known to others, we are able to stay motivated and focused on achieving our goal. It is also important to remember that while declaring your intentions can be helpful, it is also important to take action and work toward achieving your goals.

"I will do something" implies that you are committing to taking action, while "I want to do something" simply expresses a desire or wish. Saying "I will do something" suggests a sense of determination and agency while saying "I want to do something" does not necessarily convey a commitment to take action.

Today, Patrick Bet-David dives deep into this idea with real-life examples.

  • Ep.71_Discipline is Destiny_Ryan Holiday

Today's episode features one of my favorite authors - Ryan Holiday - and his latest book - 'Discipline is Destiny.'

Ryan Holiday makes the Stoic point for a bold and daring existence in his New York Times bestseller book Courage is Calling (which was featured in Episode 19 of the podcast.)

In this book, Holiday honors the incredible power of self-discipline and individuals who have harnessed it in this eagerly awaited second installment of his Stoic Virtue series.

To master anything, one must first become a master of their own ideas, feelings, and behaviors. Eisenhower is credited with saying that freedom is actually just the chance to exercise self-control.  Without limits and self-control, we run the risk of not only falling short of our potential and compromising our accomplishments but also of ensuring pain and shame. This age-old concept is more pertinent than ever in a society of temptation and excess.

You can learn more about Ryan Holiday by visiting his website - www.ryanholiday.net.

Happy New Year!  I hope 2023 is the year you crush your goals and dreams.
