In today's episode, I share my two favorite insights from 'The Power of Starting Something Stupid' by Richie Norton.
Use an app to launch some birds at pigs. That looks incredibly foolish. But in 2011, the Angry Birds developers made $106 million in profit. Walt Disney reportedly lost his job as a newspaper employee because he lacked imagination. After just one performance, Elvis Presley was asked to leave the Grand Ole Opry, claiming he was "going nowhere." According to experts, no one would ever listen to music stored on digital files, and international video chats would never be possible. All of these concepts were first seen as being silly, but as we have shown, sometimes the stupidest ideas are the finest.
I loved this book and would highly recommend it. There is no time like the present to bring your stupid idea to life. In fact, stupid ideas are the new smart in 2023.
In today's podcast, I decided to share one of my favorite goal-setting strategies - it's my favorite because it's simple, quick and most importantly it's effective.
The system is called W.O.O.P - Wish, Outcomes, Obstacles, Plan. It was created by Gabriele Oettingen and it's backed by science. If you have struggled to set goals and achieve them, then I believe you now have a new tool for life's toolbox.
The challenges we believe will prevent us from realizing our goals may instead be their enablers. WOOP allows us to think about the future while also imagining the internal barriers that stand in the way of our dreams. According to studies, WOOP has supported individuals in finding solutions to issues such as lowering stress levels, increasing work engagement, and improving time management. It has helped adults have healthier relationships and lose weight while also consuming less alcohol. The use of WOOP by kids and teens increased their academic effort, attendance, and achievement.
If you want to learn more about WOOP and the wonderful things it may do for you, please check out www.woopmylife.org or download their WOOP app on your mobile phone to get started today.
Happy holidays and thank you for continuing to support the podcast.

In today's episode, I explore my favorite insights from David Brooks great book - The Second Mountain.
The Second Mountain seeks to give a methodical framework for living a life committed to self-transcendence and self-improvement. In particular, Brooks contends that four key channels—vocation, marriage, philosophy (or faith), and community—should be used to access and effectively integrate this way of life.
I loved the book and faced a real challenge putting this note together, as I was tempted to capture almost every piece of wisdom he shared.
Enjoy!
Happy Holidays and thanks so much for listening in 2022.
In today's episode, Ed Mylett is back and today he is sharing a brilliant analogy for life.
Life is like a Pinata - and if you understand why you now understand the number one skill of successful people.
Successful folks stay in the game LONG ENOUGH to COLLECT LIFE's CANDY, which is the ONE major distinction between them and unsuccessful people.
The best ability you can have is availability. The best ability is to show up every day to take your swing at your dream and then keep swinging.
The reality is that your most incredible skill—resilience—is what it takes to win.
In that sense, life is like a pinata: you want the prize inside, but you have to keep banging on it until it cracks. Most people give up too soon.
Today's talk is available on Youtube: It's called - "Watch This When You Feel Like Giving Up | Ed Mylett.
Remember, don't quit before your get life's candy.

In today's Philosopher Byte, author and motivational speaker Jack Canfield shares an important message about setting goals. As we hit the final month o 2022, many people are looking to set goals for 2023 and what Jack shares in today's talk is really important - you need to be specific with your goals.
Jim Rohn was quoted as saying, "Don't set a goal to have $1 Million dollars for the money; set a goal for $1 Million dollars for the type of person you would need to become to be worth $1 Million dollars."
As Jack reinforces today, it isn't always the result that matters, its about focusing on the type of person we are becoming in pursuit of our goals.
Jack Canfield is the founder of 'Chicken Soup for the Soul', one of the most popular book series in the world.
