William Seamus Hughes passed away from Pediatric Glioblastoma.   The Willie Hughes Foundation is determined to make sure this does not happen again to any other other boys and girls. Pediatric Glioblastoma is underfunded -- this is how we fund it and end it!!!

MISSION

The mission of the Foundation is to raise funds to find treatments for pediatric glioblastoma and other aggressive pediatric brain tumors through research, clinical trials and other new therapies at Children’s National.

ENDOWMENT

Our immediate goal is to raise $2 million dollars to create an endowment to establish the William Seamus Hughes Professorship in Neuro-oncology and Immunology at Children’s National. It will be the first endowed chair at Children’s National to focus exclusively on these two areas, yielding lifesaving results. This Professorship will guarantee that Will’s fighting spirit lives on in the promise to other families devastated by brain tumors and ensure that every child has the very best chance for a cure.

WHY AN ENDOWED PROFESSORSHIP?

• An endowed professorship is the foundation of new discoveries and innovations at Children’s National, vital to promoting excellence and scholarship
• An endowment allows Children’s National to retain top minds and support groundbreaking work
• An endowment provides a reliable source of funding, giving professors the tools they need to pursue broad-minded and bold inquiries, leading to better outcomes for children.

Fritz Brogan went to Georgetown University, played football, studied political, law, and business — and has never left since — rather I should say Fritz has never stopped since opening his first restaurant — Gin & Tonic.  After plenty of those (G&T’s) for he and I over the years, Fritz has gone on to bigger and broader things in the Nation’s Capital.  Through the Mission Group, six restaurants are currently open for business, with a seventh on the way this summer — Royal Sands Social Club — a tip of the hat to Fritz’s Lauderdale roots!

Chris Remington was a friend to everyone, and, above all, THE family-man. Joe was one of Chris’ best friends. This Friday (4/22) we all will gather to play golf and tell stories and laugh and sip Chardonnay and hug and love — all in the memory of Chris.

WINNERS Lacrosse offers a variety of programs throughout the year (ages 5-14) for DC and Tampa area youth to learn the game of lacrosse and the character skills that come along with playing sports.

All of our boys and girls programs are free and we provide all necessary equipment.

Matt and I have been friends since our Duke days.  In 2001 at Disney World, Matt was our goalie, and led us to an ACC Championship! 

Matt is an even better person than he was player. Matt is universally loved for good reason and puts this love back into the community for boys and girls who need it most. 

On this Good Friday, thank you, Matt, for doing God’s work. 🥍🙏🏼❤️

Greg Lecker is the started at the famed and fabled Columbia Country Club and the author of the Thursday newsletter "Red's Roost" -- which speaks to the tradition, news, culture, legend & lore of our club and the beautiful game.  Greg also is a frequenter of Augusta National -- he tells stories from both sides of the ropes when we sat in the studio about one year ago today!

Kate Snedeker’s father was diagnosed with GLIOBLASTOMA about this time last year. Kate is a college sophomore and in the fall and with her father undergoing cancer treatment, Kate put love into action and started GRAY FOR GLIOBLASTOMA FUND — which is recently= gained non-profit status, and whose end goal is to raise money and awareness so that Glioblastoma is put to an end.  In the words of Kate from the GFGF WEBSITE:

Glioblastoma Multiform is the most aggressive and deadly type of brain cancer.  The cause of Glioblastoma is unknown and there is no known me those to prevent the cancer.  Since GBM is resistant to conventional therapies, treatment usually involves surgery, after which chemotherapy and radiation  therapy is used.  Even then, only 25%of GBM patients survive  over a year.
