The toxic air emissions and dust from the operation of one of the largest zinc smelter facilities in the United States became a medical nightmare for scores of local residents exposed to potentially harmful by-products of arsenic, cadmium and lead. In 2004 ten residents filed an environmental class action, known as Perrine v. DuPont, on behalf of themselves and others against the responsible companies for property damages, medical monitoring and punitive damages.
