Happy New Year! We are back kicking off 2023 with a three part series on Alien Isolation by Keith R.A. DeCandido. The game that it is based on, also called Alien Isolation is by far one our favorite games of all time. It's set a decade or so after the disappearance of The Nostromo, the ship featured in the original Alien film. The main character is the 20-something daughter of Ellen Ripley, named Amanda, who is on her way to Sevastopol Station which claims they have received the Nostromo flight recorder, and possibly information on her mother's whereabouts. And that's when things go horribly wrong.

So listen in as we read, recap, and review Alien Isolation to kick off 2023! It's going to be a great year, and we thank you for joining us.

Today we are looking at a short story set in the Bioshock universe with special guest Evelynn from the YouTube channel I Am Error! The story takes place shortly before the events of Bioshock Infinite and was released as part of the leadup to the release of the game.

If you are looking for something that is a "good nuanced handling of the issues handled in Bioshock Infinite" well, you're looking in the wrong place. We had a good time though dissecting what went wrong with this book, as well as what went wrong with the game that it is tied to.

New series! ICO was a game made by ICO team in the early 2000s. The game released after it, Shadow of the Colossus is must more well known but a lot of the "quiet world" design elements were first shown off in ICO. This book which was released a few years later, was written by Miyuki Mizabe and translated into english by Alexander O. Smith.

So far we have been having a great time with the book! In this episode we cover the first chapter and a little bit of the second which adds a bunch of story and context to the game.

Welcome to the FINALE of Dark Souls: Masque of Vindication. This book was terrible. Not going to pull any punches. What you are about to listen to is a podcast episode featuring two men just absolutely losing their faith in a book.

During the Whaddya Playin segment, Kevin gets really nerdy about Marvel Snap, a collectible card game for your phone featuring Marvel Characters. See it's actually really good because it's– oh I'm being told to stop talking about it.

Enjoy the finale of Dark Souls: Masque of Vindication. There is no Masque. Or even a Mask. It's a bummer. Next week we will be starting what is shaping up to be an EXCELLENT book in Ico: Castle in the Mist, which is based on the early 2000s game ICO.

Welcome back to Dark Souls: Masque of Vindication! We had a little more trouble with this section and it feels like we are starting to go off the rails a little bit with this book. We are introduced to some new characters. Those characters go away though so don't get too attached. Phil's cat interrupts by trying to climb the grate on his computer. It's a barrel of laughs and fun! 

We really want to stress that we think Michael Stackpole is a good author, and that we have, in fact, read a bunch of his stuff and it was good. Regardless. This book!
