  • Arrogant, Abrasive and Uncouth: We Review the Reviews of of "Purity in Death"
Here we are again, folks, with another “We Review the Reviews!” This time we review the reviews of “Purity in Death!” So many BS reviews for this book!
We start out with another reviewer who didn’t like the book, so therefore they question whether Nora Roberts actually wrote the book.
Then there’s the reviewer who felt that Nora “made social commentary throughout that was either annoying or incredibly bigoted.” We really wish people would give us examples of what they feel is annoying and bigoted.
Next, a review that feels the book was a “techno-babble bore” and that it copied the movie “Star Chamber.” Although, vigilante movies have been around since movies existed, so, “Star Chamber” didn’t invent that genre. Just visit the page on Wikipedia that lists all the vigilante movies that have been made.
There’s a really pretentious a-hole who writes a really long review about how bad they feel Nora’s “mushy, irritating” and writing is. “Purity” in their opinion, is “lame, “boring,” and “tiring” with “…very poor plot line, character growth or mystery.” Plus, TWO SIMILIES IN ONE SENTENCE?? HOW DARE SHE!!??
Here’s some more things we learn about this book in this episode:
there is a graphic sex scene in this book.
Eve’s tragic backstory is leaned on gratuitously in this series. Also there’s this thing about a dog that’s supposed to be funny but is gross.
    Roarke is pushy and arrogant
Eve just grumped and snarled her way through the book at everyone
Eve’s never in her own office
Eve is starting to resemble Anita from LKH’s series
Eve is “overly arrogant, abrasive, a bully and uncouth”
Eve isn’t really solving her own cases “legally,” she needs to use Roarke and do it by crossing that line
Obviously, since there are no guns with bullets, the right to bear arms for Americans has been taken away
On the good side, some reviewers really loved this book and the series in general, not to mention Susan Ericksen and we LOVE those reviews.

  • Early Eve and Roarke Prototypes with Heidi and Emily of "Romancing the Shelf"
This week, AJ, Jen and Tara are on vacation, so we are re-playing an episode that we recorded with Heidi and Emily of the podcast “Romancing the Shelf”!! However, while they (wisely) cut out all the superfluous and boring parts of our recording, we have kept all that in!
For those who are not familiar with this podcast, Heidi and Emily are reading all of Nora Roberts’ books in order by release date and then reviewing them. It’s a really great podcast that goes in depth into Nora’s books and if you are a fan of Nora Roberts, you should really be listening to “Romancing the Shelf”!
In the month of June, 2021, Heidi and Emily took on Nora’s “Night Tales” series. This series has long been a favorite for AJ and Jen, and over the years we have had many discussions about how we feel that the characters of Gage Guthrie from “Night Shadow” and Althea Grayson of “Nightshade” are, we feel, early prototypes for Eve Dallas and Roarke. So many comparisons between their particular stories match with early in death books, and we go over all of those in this podcast.
PLUS: Heidi and Emily answer our fan questions, so you will learn a lot about them that you may not already know…and they learn some surprising things about each other as well!
    Enjoy!

  • The Podcast in Death Sorting Hat
This week on our show we're talking about Tara's favorite subject: sorting people into their Hogwarts houses! Which house would Eve and Roarke be in? Who's a Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin? Who's a Muggle? Who's a Squib? Find out what we think in this episode!

  • "SOMEWHAT ENTERTAINING" - We Review the Reviews of "Reunion in Death"
Happy "Podcast in Death" One Year Anniversary!
To celebrate this event, we will be releasing this episode one day early!
This week, we are Reviewing the Reviews of "Reunion in Death"!! There are some doozies in this episode!!
Also, while Tara is back, AJ is missing for the first 10 minutes, but managed to call in to co-host this episode from her car.
With these reviews we learn that:
Eve Dallas is no Stephanie Plum (That might be a good thing depending on how you feel about Stephanie Plum).
There are way too many Homophone Twangles in this book.
There is no sex in this book (!?)
There are too many sex scenes and "Bad, Bad, Language."
Eve has shown no growth as a character, is self-centered and mean to everyone. Also, Roarke is a Mary-Sue.
The men in this series are just waiting for a girl fight in the hope that clothes will be ripped off.
Roarke says weird shit during sex
The plot and ending are fairly absurd and laughably ridiculous. So unrealistic.
Mira is kind of annoying, she adds nothing and her analyses are banal.
Some of this series is absolute cringe-making twaddle.
Roarke always gets his way. (Probably news to Roarke)
    This book is "SOMEWHAT ENTERTAINING."
So much has happened in this series during the first year of Eve and Roarke's marriage, they must be exhausted!
Of course one of our episodes would not be complete without some praise for Susan Ericksen, who is bloody awesome!
Also, we appreciate people who can spell Roarke's name correctly.
