On this episode of WOCTalk, we sit down with Amanda Dominguez, BSN, RN, CWOCN to talk about her co-authored, award-winning poster from WOCNext 2019 titled” Post Event Huddle to Decrease Hospital-Acquired Pressure Injuries”. During the discussion, Amanda speaks about how her team engaged the bedside staff within her hospital to identify barriers to care and implementing changes in pressure injury (PI) prevention techniques according to the findings through the development of a PIRATE (Pressure Injury Review AcT and Educate) huddle. By using this huddle model, all interdisciplinary team members involved in the care of a patient with a hospital-acquired pressure injury (HAPI) were required to attend the PIRATE huddle and participate in the initiatives to care and provide action items for care through a PDSA (Plan Do Study Act) cycle. Listen in to learn more about Amanda’s experience with these models and the outcomes her hospital received as a result of the implementation of these important changes to their care and prevention of HAPIs.
