The BYU Cougars opened the 2024 season with a 41-13 throttling of the Southern Illinois Salukis and Jake Retzlaff shined in his first career win as he led Kalani Sitake and the BYU football program to the victory with 348 passing yard and three touchdowns while the Jay Hill-inspired Cougar defense got after SIU with pressure and make no doubt as to who would emerge with the W.

Jake then talked about the things he'd like to see Brigham Young University (BYU) clean up, including a need for a continued improvement in the run game on offense, containing the QB run on defense, a need for a more sure-handed showing on special teams and maybe, just maybe, getting a competent officiating crew that cost BYU in multiple circumstances in the win.

Finally, the show wrapped up with listener takeaways from the win including hopes for more from Gerry Bohanon falling flat, thoughts on the run game positives and woes headlined by LJ Martin and Hinckley Ropati, as well as what they want to see from BYU as they now turn their attention to a short week ahead of a friday showdown against the SMU Mustangs out of the ACC.
