Erik Nordskog is an offshore boat racer and the grandson of powerboat racing legend Bob Nordskog. Nordskog began racing stock outboards at a young age and, at age 18, his grandfather selected him as the navigator for his famous Canada-to-Mexico offshore endurance run. Nordskog maintains facebook pages that document the legacy of Bob Nordskog and the magazine he owned, Powerboat Magazine. Nordskog continues to be involved in offshore racing as one of the commentators for Ocean Cup open water endurance race series. Nordskog shares many great stories about his grandfather’s innovations and life as one of the icons of the performance powerboat industry.

Janet Wilson is the Managing Director of Ocean Cup, an Offshore racing series that sanctions open water, world speed record attempts. The endurance competitions are run, rally style, with staggered timed starts in point-to-point and out-and-back configurations. The racers must be equipped to take on open, unprotected passages with no support. Wilson, who is married to Offshore Endurance racer Nigel Hook, has five Ocean Cup series races scheduled for this year in California and Florida. The shortest race is 106 miles, while the longest race tops 430 miles.

Andrew Games is what you might call an extreme performance boater having built and raced flat bottoms, cracker boxes, and river cruisers. Games has also skied in the Catalina water ski race. Tim Seebold began racing powerboats when he was eight years old. Following in the footsteps of his father, boat racing legend, Bill Seebold, Jr, and his brother, Micheal, Seebold made his mark in outboard powered Formula 1 tunnel boats. After a 44 year career, Seebold retired in 2016, ending the Seebold racing dynasty that had begun with Grandpa Bill Seebold in 1939. But the youngest Seebold’s resume held its own against that of the elder Seebolds as he amassed 19 North American National Championships, seven Formula One National Series Championships, induction into the prestigious APBA (American Powerboat Association) Hall of Champions, and the most total Formula One race wins (37) in US History. 

Seebold’s legacy in F1 racing continues today, outside of the cockpit, as the Managing Director of the F1 Powerboat Championship Series.

York got his first taste of boating when he got an invite to drive a Stock Vee Bottom for a “made for TV” event, Travis Pastrana’s P1 Offshore Invitational. Greg Shoemaker is one of the most recognized authorities on performance powerboats with an unprecedented expertise in performance jet pumps. Shoemaker was instrumental in the development and success of the iconic Daytona tunnel hull manufactured by Eliminator Boats. Shoemaker successfully campaigned the first Daytona drag boat, Underdog. In 1979, Shoemaker left his job at Eliminator and established his own performance marine business, GS Marine, which is still operating today.

Our guest on this episode of Powerboat Talk is circle boat racing legend Duff Daily. Daily has been racing for over 50 years and in 2022, he won his class for the first time ever at the Parker Enduro where his son,  Dustin was his co-driver. Besides his duties in the GN class, Daily, a retired Miami fireman of 35 years, also still competes today, at the age of 69, in a K boat “War Eagle.”

Since he began driving at the age of 16, Daily has won 26 National Championships, 19 World Championships, and has set 20 world records, at least four of which still stand today including the KRR 1/4 mile straightaway mark of 152.93 mph. Standout victories for Daily include the iconic Mike Gordon 100 Mile Marathon that was run annually at historic Miami Marine Stadium. Starting with his first victory in 1970 at the age of 18, Daily won the Mike Gordon GN race eight years in a row and nine out of the 12 times he entered. Daily was undefeated in the GN class for seven years from 1973-1979 and he was an APBA Hall of Champions Recipient eight times.
