Shearer offers a statement about the lawsuit: Behind the ambitious, creative talent that is Hollywood lies a darker side of the entertainment industry little appreciated by the ordinary moviegoer. It's an opaque world of film financing, revenue accretion and minimal profit share. If exposed, as our Spinal Tap lawsuit against Vivendi aims to do, fans will no doubt be horrified at the shameful gravy train that rolls for corporate rights holders at the expense of creators.

* Legendary Comedian Don Rickles has died of kidney failure at 90 years old. He's starred on countless TV shows throughout the 50s-70s, was a headline comedian in Vegas, was the original substitute host for Carson on The Tonight Show and was the subject of an HBO documentary titled Mr. Warmth in which he won an Emmy. He was in Martin Scorcese's Mafia epic, Casino and is know to modern audiences as the voice of Mr. Potatohead in the Toy Story series.

* Though Lucasfilm has said they have no plans to recreate Carrie Fisher digitally, they have been given permission by her daughter Billie Lourde and brother Todd Fisher to use her image to utilize unused film footage to include her in Episode 9. Todd Fisher says.

* It's rumored that David Goyer will land the directing job for Green Lantern Corps. Goyer has directed small features but his biggest was Blade:Trinity, which was considered a step backward for the franchise. Goyer however has experience writing for big movies like Man of Steel and Ghost Rider. Though his directing effort for Blade 3 was panned he did write all three movies and Batman Begins. Green Lantern Corps is slated for a 2020 release.

* With Matt Reeves on board to direct and produce Batman, Joe Manganiello who was going to play Deathstroke the Terminator says it's up in the air if he'll appear in the movie.

* The MPAA has screened Wonder Woman and it will be PG-13 for violence and suggestive content.

* Disney seems to only be competing with itself for box office openers. Beauty and the Beast opened with a huge domestic take of $170 million. It has beaten second place holder Finding Dory but was unable to overtake The Force Awakens. Certainly Emma Watson must be happy. She was paid 3 million to portray Belle but has a performance based contract that can pay her up to $15 million.

* With the success of Disney's animated adapted to live action movies, director of Mulan, Niki Karo says there are no songs in the movie much to the horror of her children. She says she's making an epic girly martial arts movie.

* Paramount, current holders of the rights for The Terminator says it has no interest in moving forward with the franchise after the performance of Terminator: Genesys. Producer David suggests differently.

* Ivan Reitman updates us on the Ghostbusters franchise: We jumped into an animated film [after the last movie] and we are developing [a] live-action film. I want to bring all these stories together as a universe that makes sense within itself. Part of my job right now is to do that.

* It's been announced that Mr. Robot season 3 will be delayed. Bobby Carnivale of Boardwalk Empire, Vinyl and Ant-Man will join the cast as Irving a used car salesman that has no tolerance for games. Mr. Robot returns in October.

* The producers of Game of Thrones has announced that the final season of the show will only have 6 episodes.

* It's rumored that Warner is actively pursuing Matthew Vaughn to succeed Zack Snyder to direct Man of Steel 2. t's also rumored that Warner wants Vaughn to direct several superhero films for them but this is their first offer.

* Logan now stands as the worldwide leader of 2017. Sure, we're only 3 months into the year but this a rare accolade for a R rated movie.

* There are rumors that the Matrix would be rebooted but original trilogy producer Joel Silver has said they wish to create an expanded film universe that would start with a prequel telling the story of a young Morpheus. Michael B. Jordan is the frontrunner to play the part.

* We know that Harrison Ford will return as Rick Dekard in Blade Runner 2049 but it's been announced that Edward James Olmos will return as Gaff.

* We might have a reason why Ben Affleck stepped down as the director for Batman - he announced that he has completed rehab for alcohol addiction. He's been a rollercoaster between almost being divorced, playing Batman, writing, directing and producing Live by Night.

* Bad news for Training Day on the heels of the news of Bill Paxton's death. The show will be moved from it's Thursday slot to Saturday. Historically the most network TV is watched on Sunday - Thursday so the show is in danger of cancellation between the move and the death of one of its leads.

* Samuel L. Jackson, like he's done with many other franchises is trying to maneuver his way into John Wick 3. He has been very vocal about being very interested.

* The show Legion, which we've called "X-Men in name only" will finally make a connection to source material by introducing The Shadow King as an enemy. He will be a villain to David aka Legion and is considered a telepath equal in ability to Charles Xavier, who has yet to be mentioned or appeared on the show.

* When Sony opted to begin working with Marvel Studios to reimagine the Spiderman franchise many spin offs ceased development. One of those spinoffs have been brought back to life by Sony. They claim that we will see a movie based on Venom released in October of 2018. This is being described as a "Spidey Spin off" and there's no word if it'll directly connect to the MCU.

* George RR Martin has announced the launch of Stagecoach Foundation Film Studio which places even more doubt that he'll finish the last two books of Game of Thrones. The 30,000 square foot facility will open in his home state of New Mexico. The Coen Brothers have already announced that they will be using the facility for an upcoming product.

The last strike occurred in February of 2008 over digital royalties of television programs and had a definite affect over programming.

* Denis Villenueve says that we shouldn't expect the Dune movie anytime soon.

* In order to cater to young viewers, Mexican based theater chain, Cinepolis has began installing jungle gyms in the theaters in their southern California locations. The plan is to charge $3 more per ticket for these specialized theaters.

* We reported that there was interest for Kerry Washington to play Domino in Deadpool 2 and X-Force but now Zazie Beetz is official playing the character. Beetz has gained attention on TV starring in Atlanta. Her portrayal of Domino will be her biggest outing so far.

* The X-Men television series developed for Fox that ties to the franchise has been titled Gifted, as in the Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. There's no word if the characters from the movie will appear. The show follows a man named Reed (played by Steven Moyer) who is on the run from the government in an effort to protect his children who have evaded mutant registration. Along the way he meets a group of mutants led by Blink (played by Jamie Chung) who helps protect his family.

* We've lost Bill Paxton at 61 who passed due to complications of surgery. Paxton played small parts in many blockbusters that include, The Terminator, Weird Science, True Lies, Aliens, and Titanic but also found himself in major roles in Twister and HBO's Big Love. He recently starred on Agents of Shield and was also in a TV series adaptation of Antoine Faqua's Training Day. He will be deeply missed.

* Star Wars Celebration is getting close and it's rumored that the original unaltered trilogy will be announced for release on BluRay to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the first movie.

* There are more actors rumored to be in the running to be cast as Cable in Deadpool 2.

* British actress Naomi Harris received the OBE award from the Queen at Buckingham Palace for her role in Moonlight. Before this role she played Eve Moneypenny in the last two James Bond movies. When asked who will be cast as the new Bond she replied that producers are counting on Daniel Craig's return and he'll likely be back.

* On Graham Norton Ian McKellan was asked why he was left out of Logan to which he joked, "When you become my age, you want to move away from these tired old franchises and on to something more fresh. I cry myself to sleep at night. I don't know why I'm not in it, darling."

* Mel Gibson has given an update on his progress to direct the Suicide Squad sequel.

* In a cool wink to the X-Files, The Walking Dead's Dwight, who is a main henchmen of Negan was shown pulling cigarettes from a pack marked "Morley's". This was the same brand smoked by The Cancer Man on the X-Files.

* The new X-Men series that has been announced by Fox and will tie directly into the film franchise has cast Stephen Moyer. Moyer, best known for his role as Bill Compton in True Blood will play a character named Reed who discovers his children have mutant powers and are targeted by the US government. He is the third actor cast and joins Jaime Chung of Once Upon a Time and Blair Redford of Satisfaction. Showrunner Matt Nix popular for Dexter has given no timetable of release but has confirmed Bryan Singer will be directing the pilot.

* Adam Nimoy son of Leonard Nimoy and director of the documentary was interviewed on TrekMovie.com. He spoke of the technology used to recreate Peter Cushing and Carrie Fisher in Rogue One and gave his thoughts on Spock returning to the franchise in the image of his father.

* The BBC is bringing their own comic book based series to TV that is spun off from Todd McFarlaine's popular series Spawn. The show will be called Sam and Twitch and follows two NYPD detectives that investigate the occult. The characters worked with Spawn in the comics and became so popular they eventually received their own title. Director, podcaster and nerd boy Kevin Smith has been selected as the show runner.

* As we know Disney has been taking their animated catalogue and relaunching love action versions of those movies. The Little Mermaid has been announced and Lindsay Lohan has offered her services to star as Ariel. She's also been kind enough to suggest director Bill Condon to direct, the original director of Beauty and the Beast.

* Logan has been getting very positive buzz and Hugh Jackman shares his thought on recasting Wolverine

* Chris Chibnall will be taking over show runner duties from Steven Mofat for Doctor Who.

* Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller tweeted a picture of the cast who will be featured in the new Han Solo movie. The only character in costume was actor Joonas Suatamo who announces that he was officially passed the torch by Peter Mayhew to play Chewbacca.

* We reported that actress Sophie Turner tweeted about a new X-Men movie that would start filming soon even thought the franchise appeared to be in temporary limbo. New rumors are that the movie will be called X-Men: Supernova and it will be directed by Simon Kinberg.

* Marvel's The Inhuman has cast their first actor for the show. Iwan Rheon will play Maximus, the brother of Black Bolt who leads the Inhumans. Maximus is power hungry and opposes his brother's authority. Rheon became one of the most hated men on television for his portrayal of Ramsey Bolton on Game of Thrones.

* Speaking of Ramsey Bolton, Alfie Allen who played Theon Greyjoy has been cast in Shane Black's Predator reboot.

* Guillermo del Toro has tweeted fans to assure them that Hellboy 3 is 100 percent not happening. The movie has a cult following that's tried to petition studios for a third and final adventure but sadly it won't happen. del Toro is currently working on his new film The Shape of Water. He is also the show runner for FX's The Strain, which airs its final season later this year.

* Another big behind-the-scenes shake up has been rumored for Deadpool 2. Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are out and Ryan Reynolds is now working with Drew Goddard on the script. It's also been announced the writer Joe Carnahan is working with Reynolds on an X-Force script. Reese and Wernick were originally the go-tos on that project as well. Carnahan wrote The A-Team movie, Smokin Aces and The Grey.

* It's official, Matt Reeves has negotiated with Warner Bros. and will serve as director and producer for The Batman.

* Ian McShane who had a short run on Game of Thrones and also appeared on HBO's Deadwood has had a tumultuous relationship with some of the fanbase.

* Every few months we seem to receive a plan from MTV network as to how to recapture youthful viewers and become relevant again. MTV/VH1 president Chris McCarthy reveals that the latest plan is to shelf low budgeted scripted shows and move forward with music, reality TV and live programming. He says - We are going to pair those with great reality series. The real opportunity for MTV is bringing back big, over the top, lovable reality characters. That's what made MTV stand out --- great, soapy reality series that appealed to young viewers.

* Lawrence Fishburne believes that the criticism of the DCEU is unfounded and gives his opinion on why he thinks Dawn of Justice is a fine film

* Warner's top choice to direct a sequel to Suicide Squad is Mel Gibson.

* The top three box office leaders are all sequels with two receiving diminished returns. The winner was LEGO Batman with $55 million. It comes in under the first Lego movie, which grossed $69 million on it's opening weekend. The second is 50 Shades of Darker with $46 million almost dropping half of the first film, which grossed $85 million. The third is John Wick: Chapter 2 which came in at $30 million doubling the gross of the first movie that came in at $14 million.

* During his tour for John Wick 2, Keanu Reeves has revealed that there is a script for Bill and Ted 3.

* The main X-Men franchise was thought to be in limbo but Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner who took over the role of Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse tweeted that she'll start filming a new X-Men movie between Game of Thrones Season 7 (which just wrapped) and Season 8.

* Actor Kenny Baker is one of two actors to appear in all 8 Star Wars movies. With his passing last year actor Jimmy Vee will take over the role of R2-D2. Vee has said he had the pleasure of working with Baker, plans to honor everything he brought to the character and is honored to be part of the franchise. In other Star Wars news we are right under 2 months until Star Wars: Celebration the official convention hosted by Lucasfilm. There's rumors that big changes will be announced for non-film properties with a rumored announcement of a Netflix exclusive animated series. It's also revealed that author Chuck Wendig who has authored the Star Wars novels that are now canonical to the universe has revealed the fate of Jar Jar Binks giving the character a final bow to the series.

* The Walking Dead returned with 12 million viewers for it's premiere of Season 7B. That's 1.4 million higher than last season's highest rated episode. 7.3 million of those viewers are in the coveted 18-49 demographic. To put it in comparison The Big Bang Theory gets 14 million viewers per episode but only 3 million are in the 18-49 demo. Walking Dead is still far below it's season 5 premiere, which grabbed an incredible 17 million viewers and it's been announced that Big Bang has been signed on for two more seasons.

* Actress Kerry Washington of Scandal is rumored to be the frontrunner to portray Domino, Cable's partner in Deadpool 2.

* Actor Warren Frost has passed away at 91. After leaving the Navy after WW2 he started his acting career appearing on shows all the way through the 1990s. He made appearances on Matlock, Make Room for Daddy, Quantum Leap, Beauty and the Beast, LA Law, The Stand, Grace Under Fire, The Larry Sanders Show and Murder One. His most famous role was Dr. Will Hayward, the town doctor in Twin Peaks a show that his son Mark co-created with David Lynch.

* After rumors of Ben Affleck's Batman movie being a behind-the-scenes mess, Warner says they are pleased with the script and are moving forward with Ben Affleck's replacement in the director's chair, Matt Reeves. Reeves has experience in television but his first major feature will be the soon to be released War for the Planet of the Apes. A synopsis of Justice League has also been released and hints as the inclusion of Darkseid in the film.

* Kevin Smith announces that he will be bringing Jay and Silent Bob back the screen to lampoon studios doing remakes as the characters try to stop a remake of the fictional movie, Bluntman and Chronic.

* Not a Halloween reboot but a sequel to the first two John Carpenter movies, David Gordon Green and Danny McBride are behind bringing the movie to life. Carpenter claims that "they get it" and might even provide music.

* The Coen Brothers are writing a remake of the iconic 80s film, Scarface. Diego Luna of Rogue One has been cast as Tony Montana and now the Coens are looking for a director. The top names are David Mackenzie who directed Hell or High Water and Patriot's Day director, Peter Berg.
