* Rian Johnson is in the process of editing Star Wars 8 and in an interview he said when writing and filming The Last Jedi he was inspired by the movies Twelve O-Clock High for the aerial battles and the banter between the pilots and Three Outlaw Samurai for it's pulpy feel and the sword battles. To help him with the grand scale that Star Wars is known for he re-watched To Catch a Thief.

* Chris Miller and Phil Lord have started filming the Han Solo movie and tweeted a photo of the clapper, which read Han's first shot. The film is also being filmed under the name "Red Cup".

* Peter Capaldi announces that 2017 will be his final year as Dr. Who. He's the twelfth actor to play the character and has done so for the last three years. Capaldi says he always is looking for new challeges and doesn't wish to get stuck in a routine. There's no replacement that's been named but there has been support from fans and from former Dr. Who, David Tenant to finally cast a female in the role. Haley Atwell, popular for her role as Marvel's Agent Carter has been a fan favorite for years.

* James Cameron reveals how he's going to make The Terminator relevant again.

* DC character Black Lightning has had a pilot ordered. The show will be produced by Greg Berlanti. It was originally ordered by Fox but has now been moved to the CW. Should it be ordered to series Berlanti confirms that it will connect with the Arrowverse.

* Rogue One has officially made $1 billion dollars worldwide proving Disney has another money-maker on the hands. Following this news director Rian Johnson releases the title of Star Wars Episode 8. It's called The Last Jedi and picks up directly where Episode 7 left off. The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15th.

* Shane Black's Predator reboot has some up and coming stars in Boyd Holbrook of Narcos, Olivia Munn of The Newsroom and X-Men: Apocalypse and Trevonte Rhodes of Moonlight but now they now have a veteran in Thomas Jane who officially joins the cast. The Predator comes out on February 9, 2018.

* The Flash is being entirely reworked over at Warner Bros. Three directing teams have quit over creative differences and now King Arthur: Legend of Sword scribe Joby Harold is being pulled in to do a "page one" rewrite. The film was supposed to be released on March 6th, 2018 but now it's up in the air. As of now, Ezra Miller, Kiersey Clemmons and Billy Cruddup are still on board to star. The movie still has no director.

* Vin Diesel is shilling for yet another franchise that features him over at Marvel. He thinks Groot should have a spin-off

* Godzilla 2 has added it's first star - Millie Bobby Brown of Stranger Things. This will be a direct sequel to Gareth Edwards' 2014 film and has been officially added to the MonsterVerse. This year is the release of Kong: Skull Island, followed by Godzilla: King of the Monsters in 2019. The series will then continue with Kong vs. Godzilla should the franchise catch fire with audiences.

* James Cameron gives his opinion on why the Alien franchise should come to an end.

* Rogue One is now the second highest grossing Star Wars film of all time. $477 million domestically but behind The Force Awakens with a whopping $936 million. It's expected to cross the billion dollar mark globally.

* The "big" category wins from the Golden Globes are Moonlight for Best Drama, Casey Affleck Best Actor in Manchester by the Sea, Isabelle Huppert in Elle, Aaron Taylor Johnson for Supporting Actor in Nocturnal Animals, Viola Davis for Supporting Actress in Fences and Zootopia grabbed the honors for Best Animated Film. The big winner is La La Land picking up wins in all categories for Comedy/Musical including Best Screenplay, Best Director for Damien Chazelle, Best Original Score and Song. La La Land now holds the record for most Golden Globe wins. Not to go home empty-handed Andrew Garfield and Ryan Reynolds kissed each other for their loss to Ryan Gosling.

* It's rumored that Liv Tyler will reprise her role as Betty Ross in Avengers: Infinity War. Due to entangled rights with Universal, the character last appeared in The Incredible Hulk that starred Edward Norton as Bruce Banner.

* HBO announces that Westworld will return in late spring or early summer of 2018.

* We reported last week that Woody Harrelson was in talks to play Han Solo's mentor in the upcoming film based on the intergalactic smuggler. He is now official and shares his thoughts on being in Star Wars. Woody joins Alden Ehrenrich, Donald Glover and Emilia Clark.

* Tim Burton is developing a live action version of Dumbo which may feature Will Smith as the lovable character and Tom Hanks as the villain. Burton was responsible for the massively successful Alice in Wonderland and it's sequel Through the Looking Glass, which was one of the worst bombs of 2016.

* President of DC creative Geoff Johns announces that DC will have another show hitting the airwaves in 2017. He gives no hints as to what it will be but this would be DC's 8th show on the airwaves. UPDATE: As rerecorded this show, DC reported that the new show will be an animated Constantine series that will be picked up by CW.

* It's rumored that Disney will be pushing back the Han Solo film from it's May 2018 slot back to December 2018. There's also rumors that Disney was in talks with Christian Bale to play Han Solo's mentor but it seems that the new favorite to play the role is Woody Harrelson. Han Solo currently stars Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover and Emilia Clark.

* While promoting his new film The Founder, Michael Keaton reveals why he pulled out of the third Batman film.

* And for her parting joke, Carrie Fisher's cremated remains were placed in an urn shaped like a Prozac pill.

* Zach Gallagan informs us that Gremlins will return. He said that Chris Columbus has been actively working on a script. Zach compares the return of the Gremlins similar to the The Force Awakens in that it will honor the first film and original characters while introducing new ones. He said he's unsure if Columbus will return to direct or write the film but as Executive Producer he wishes to get the film correct and avoid the direction of the second film.

* It appears Disney will break the worldwide box office gross in 2016 over 2015's record holder of 2015, Universal Pictures. Universal shocked investors last year with a tally of $6.89 billion last year with successful releases lead by Jurassic World and unexpected hits like Straight Outta Compton. Disney is now $400 million shy of toppling that total and with Rogue One expecting a massive opening, they'll likely beat it.

* Rogue One director Gareth Edwards says he wanted to make Star Wars fans very happy with his film but now he can die happy because he was told by George Lucas that the film was very good.

* Game of Thrones actor Peter Vaughan passed away peacefully at the age of 93. The actor was described as a gentle giant and a consummate professional. He received critical acclaim for his role on British television series Porridge but gained exposure to worldwide audiences as Maester Aemon Targaryan of The Night's Watch.

* Marvel's The Inhumans has taken a step forward. Showrunner Scott Buck who popularized Showtime's Dexter and Marvel's upcoming Iron Fist series has been assigned to The Inhumans, which will debut in 2017.

* Tomb Raider will return to the big screen with Alicia Vikander in the role of Lara Croft. Variety has reported that Walton Goggans will be cast as the main villain. Goggans, a great talent is known for roles in The Shield, Django Unchained and The Hateful 8.

* Fox announces that a new X-Men will begin filming in May of 2017. Rumors and hints that it will be based on Marvel's New Mutants comic series.

* Warner claims they will push back the production of Justice League 2 in 2019 so Zack Snyder can film a passion project titled The Last Photograph. Snyder claims he's wanted to make this film since his breakout hit 300. It follows a war correspondent who is the only survivor from an attack in Afghanastan. The reporter latter meets a spec-ops soldier searching for a family member and hopes this will turn into the story of his career.

* It's rumored that a surprise actor has been cast a spaceship pilot named Branson in Ridley Scott's upcoming Alien Covenant. It's none other than James Franco. This hasn't been confirmed yet but insiders are saying expect it to happen.

* The two biggest rumors regarding Tim Miller's departure as director of deadpool 2 were the desire to make "a bigger movie" and the casting of Kyle Chandler as Cable. He's denied either of those reasons are the case and he wants to assure the nerd and geek community that it was for other reasons entirely.

* With many event films coming Rogue One is the latest film to break Fandango's single sales in a day record.

* Gareth Edwards has confirmed that Rogue One will not have an opening crawl. It will be replaced by a prologue flashback scene at the beginning of the film.

* Greg Berlanti announces that Mr. Mxyzptlk (Mix Yezz Spit) will appear on two episodes of Supergirl. So far there are no details about the character.

* The estate of Frank Herbert, writer of the sci-fi epic Dune has revealed that the license has been acquired by Legendary Entertainment to produce films and television for the property. * Star Trek: First Contact make-up artist Scott Wheeler revealed that in the early stages of developing the film the role of the Borg queen was supposed to go to Cher.

* Star Trek: Discovery the new series available on CBS's new subscription stream service has announced it's first cast member - Michelle Yeoh of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

* The Walking Dead's ratings have dropped to a historic low. There's no need to pull the emergency cord due to it still dominating the tv landscape but it's shed 6 million viewers to almost 11 million, a number that hasn't been that small since season 3.
