In this episode we discuss: "Having A Positive Mental Attitude and Survival Mindset, And Dealing With Stress"
"Having A Positive Attitude And A Survival Mindset"
"A positive mental attitude will not let you do anything, but it will let you do everything better than a negative attitude will". - Zig Ziglar
" Whatever the mind can conceive, and believe, the mind can achieve" - Napolean Hill
"We become what we think about" - Earl Nightingale
We all know people who are so negative that we often hate to see them coming. We also know people who are so positive, to quote Ziglar again, they "would go after Moby Dick and take the tarter sauce with them."
In such a time when we need to use our preps or put our emergency plans into action, the stresses mount up. Stress can impede our performance in areas of memory, decision making, and multitasking, as well as increase fatigue.
Two basic types of stress: chronic stress and acute stress.
Chronic Stress
Remove the stress, if possible
Take some deep breaths
Take a break
Break things down in to smaller tasks
Count to 10 before speaking or responding
Take a break from news & social media
Develop Regular routines
Prepping relieves stress & worry
Make a plan and work your plan
Acute stress
Train to handle acute stress
Visualize Scenerios
The mind doesn't know the difference between visualization and the actual doing of a thing.
A Survival mindset says, "I am ready, I will prevail"
A survival mindset is the prepper mindset. We decide ahead of time that we will survive most any situation and that we will do what it takes to protect our family.
Decide ahead of time what you will do.
Acknowledge there will be stress
Plan for the stress
Plan a course of action
What are you willing to do to save your family or to save your own life?
Are you willing to turn others away when there is little food?
Are you willing to take another's life?
We decide ahead of time that we wont let the situation drag us down.
We prepare. We train.
We visualize scenarios so that when we get there we are prepared because in our minds, we have already been there.
Find ways to relieve your stress
Have some fun

Please share this episode with friends. Here is the direct link: https://practicalpreppingpodcast.buzzsprout.com
Practical Prepping focuses preparing for the events we are most likely to face, weather events, power outages, supply chain interruptions, shortages, and financial issues.
We've never put any real time into aliens, zombies, asteroid strikes, EMPs, or nuclear war, ... until now.
Through watching world events and doing a lot of research, we've come to have some concerns about the growing possibility of a catastrophic failure of the electrical grid.
A catastrophic failure could be caused by a CME or an EMP, or even through sabatage.
That's our discussion for today, EMPs and CMEs.
We discuss actual EMP tests and the results, as well as several recorded CMEs, and the probability of future occurrences.
There are now nine contries (of which we are aware) that possess nuclear weapons, and others are progressing toward having them. Some of those are not friendly nations.
Several EMP commissions have studied the issues, but efforts to protect critical infrastructurees have not been undertaken.
Even the commissions report that either a CME or EMP would thrust us back to life in the 1800s, 90% of the population would die, and it would take over a year to recover.
We discuss the affects on the power grid, supply chain, economics, vehicles, on life as we know it.
The threat of CME and EMP are real, and will be devastating, but there are some things we can do to prepare.

There are five economic indicators to track in order to measure the economy.
Inflation
Employment figures
Housing
Spending
Consumer Confidence
Inflation First:
We are seeing some real red flags with inflation..
We look at some current inflationary examples.
Most notably gasoline, diesel, and energy.
Gasoline prices have increased around 75% in our area in last six months.
Rising fuel costs raises transportation costs, which raises the cost of everything at the cash register.
Food prices are increasing and package contents are shrinking.
What once was A "pound" of bacon, or coffee, is now 12 ounces. Happening with many products.
We are paying more for less.
Add to the inflation caused by the stimulous package, the fact is that we are experiencing huge shortages in some areas.
Demand is up, as people are spending stimulus funds, seeing it as "free money" but it is far from free.
Supply is down due reduced production due to reductions in available workforce.
Get ready. Infation is here, and more is coming.
EMPLOYMENT
Job openings are at all-time high, yet we have a 6% unemployment rate vs 3.5% before covid.
Its not a lack of jobs, but that the current government benefits are so generous that we are paying 3% of the workforce to stay home, there is no incentive to find a job
When more can be made sitting home than working many WILL stay home.
Government benefit is causing a shortage in the workplace, and businesses are having difficulty finding workers.
Some businesses are paying people just to show up for interviews, paying "sign-on" bonuses, and facing increased costs of labor.
HOUSING
Housing market has seen an increase in pricing.
Locally, houses are being sold faster that they are being built, and sales become bidding wars. Houes are selling for higher than asking prices.
SPENDING
Demand is greatly outstripping supply. The economic stimulous is creating demand that is higher than the potential of the country to produce over the next couple of years.
CONFIDENCE
Normally, consumer confidence drives the rate of sales in durable goods. The more confident consumers are that they will be able to make the payments, the more likely they are to buy. The less confident, the less they are to go into debt.
Look at the other side of confidence - the confidence of the investor. The investor can be the individual OR the corporation.
Individuals invest money in a number of ways, including starting businesses and investion in existing businesses. That's what the stock market is - investing in existing businesses.
Businesses invest by expanding facilities, hiring more employees, buying new processes, upgrading equipment like computers and machinery.
Biden's tax proposals are counter productive to economic growth and economic health.
His proposed increase from 21% to 28% discourages business expansion, which creates fewer jobs.
Doubling long-term capital gains for wealthy investors to 43% discourages investment.
Investing is always a risk, and if investors are going to be taxe

Age, weight, physical, and mental conditions can be challenges in SHTF situations. We must stay active and get in shape both physically and mentally.
We discuss some of the "comorbidities" we learned about during the covid pandemic.
In this episode we discuss focusing too much on one area of prepping as well as prepping with a lack of family support. We cover lack of storage space, lack of skills, and lack of thoughtful planning. Lastly, we cover buying and testing quality gear before we stake our lives on that gear.

Episode #58 Gathering Intelligence Before SHTF.
Honestly, gathering intelligence is a lot more fun to do than it is to talk about, but we need to know how, and like any other skill, we get better as we practice.
In this episode we discuss three aspects of intelligence gathering. Those are:
Open source intelligence (OSINT)
Cyber intelligence (CYBINT)
Human intelligence (HUMINT)
Open source intel. (OSINT)
OSINT sources can be divided up into six different categories of information flow:
Media - newspaper, magazines, radio, television, alternative news sites, and foreign news sites
Internet - online publications, blogs, discussion groups, user created content such as Youtube and social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. A good example is While the media was saying "peaceful protests" posted social media videos were showing buildings being burned, people being beaten, looting, and massive destruction.
Public government data
Government reports, transcripts of government hearings, press conferences, and speeches
Professional & academic publications
Journals, symposia, academic papers, even dissertations & theses
Commercial data
Commercial imagery, financial assessments, commercial weather, and especially satellite photos.
Cyber intel. (CYBINT)
Properly formed cyber intelligence is born out of analysis.
Analysis of data allows better decisions
It often involves crunching data, computer modeling, weather modeling, and military models.
Human intel. (HUMINT)
Propper Ground truth depends on getting "Eyes on" the, or at least first hand accounts.
In some situations we need to do personal recon. In others we can gain information directly from friends, family, or listening to ham oporators, but we must separate fact from opinion or rumor. We do this by correlation of data.

Episode # 57 "Bugging Out, Avoiding, Survival Situations, And Surviving Grid Down"
Too much emphasis Is placed on bugging out, and building a BOB is often the first thing many new preppers do.
Sure, all the sexy gear and gadgets are fun, and we romanticize the iea of living like Grizzly Adams, Jeremiah Johnson, or Tom Hanks on the movie "Castaway"
The truth is, we should Bug Out Only when we cannot survive where we are, or bugging out increases our chances of survival, or when we can no longer access or obtain resources necessary to survive.
We discuss avoiding survival situations.
An ounce of prevention better than pound of cure.
WE want to be Proactive rather than reactive.
Have a plan.
We touch on situational awareness In public places as well as In the outdoors.
Check the weather and news before going somewhere. What is the environment, temperature, terrain, and water availability?
We cover carrying appropriate backup gear, letting someone know where you are going and expected return time, and then check in with them.
We get into some of the gear we should be carrying, and a survival mindset.
Finally we talk about Surviving Grid Down Situations.
It's All about safety, having a plan, and staging supplies in different areas of our house.
Communications will be a MUST in surviving a grid down SHTF, and we discuss that.
(We have done several podcasts on communications, so check out episodes #12, #13, #15, and #16.
We also have articles on communications on the website at www.practicalprepping.info)
Skills, skills, skills, did we say skills? You MUST have skills to survive a grid down situation. We talk about that.
