Episode # 44. LET'S TALK OPSEC
Operational Security or Operations Security is
really just risk management
General Opsec
Particularly important for survival communities and mutual assistance groups.
OPSEC should be exercised with family bug out location & activities as well as in daily life.
General opsec includes making your house less attractive to thugs, thieves, and looters using outside lighting, video cameras, cutting back bushes cut and reducing hiding places aroung the house.
We talk a bit about situational awareness and being the gray man, or woman, and blending in.
Mission Opsec
(the fun, spy craft type stuff)
Radio Communications:
Remember, everything can be monitored.
For the purposes of this discussion we'll use the Baofeng radio.
They are dual band, dual watch radios can operate "split" which helps with the security of communications.
Codes can be developed for use after SHTF, or even in exercises or daily use, and we discuss examples of codes.
We discuss keeping your transmissions short, triangulation, and rotating your transmitting locations.
Just for fun we discuss verbal runners, dead drops, and signals.

We are unable to do a full podcast tonight, but wanted to share some thoughts.
I always thought the phrase "anoint my head with oil" in Psalm 23 was figurative language for God keeping the psalmist happy.
In studying recently, I came across a bit of history about the sheep and why the shepherd would physically coveer the sheep's head with oil.
This parallel makes Psalm 23 even more meaningful.
We'll be back on Monday.

Episode # 42
As the seasons change, it is a time to check the car bag, or get-home-bag, and rotate food items, replace missing items, and add things yoou may have forgotten.
(Its also a good time to check the smoke detectors & fire extinguishers).
We cover the major items we carry in our personal bags, and discuss some things you can carry in the car.
Your bag will differ from ours, but here are the major catagories we carry, and you should carry as well.
Three ways to start FIRE
WATER and three ways to purify more water
Three ways to have LIGHTING
FOOD items we carry in our bags, (enough for three days)
What KNIFE is in the bag, two other EDC, and an accessory.
CORDAGE has so many uses. What we carry and how to use it.
SHELTER can be carried in your bag, and has multiple uses.
SECURITY is important. Items you can carry if you can't carry a firearm, and some options if you can.

"Being a Prepper is nothing more than making sure that you and your loved ones will make it through the next big thing that is out of the ordinary, planning for all of you to live through till the problem is over." - Bob Childers
Lots of ways to define prepping or preppers.
TEOTWAWKI "The End Of The World As We Know It"
Looked at by many as the "Crazy prepper"
OFF-GRIDDERS/HOMESTEADERS:
Live like what our grandparents just called "life"
A Prepper Is Not someone:
has 3 ARs and a big bucket of ammo and believes they are a prepper; OR....has ordered a years worth of food, but if that is all...
An "prepper" is a person who wants to:
make sure the family is taken care of.
see the family get through the "what ifs"
who takes responsibility to provide for themselves when others must depend on someone else
What does it take to be prepared for most disasters or weather events?
To be prepared be self-sufficient, in any event, for a minimum of 7 days, 14 days is better.
Well rounded preppers don't get so caught up in prepping for what might happen in the future that they ignore relationships, or fail to live in the here and now.
Considerations:
Food & Water
Shelter
Shelter At Home
Shelter For Get-Home Situations
Electrical Needs
Medical - good first aid kit
Security - Adequate for risk
Sanitation options
Tornados, hurricanes, earthquakes, wild fires, and snowstorms WILL happen as we have seen recently.
Maybe this episode will help you and your family get through it much easier.

Episode # 40 is brought to you by Covenant Music and features Krista Lawley singing the title cut from her album, "I've Got A Joy."
Worldwide we have come through a very hard year:
We have experienced Covid Lockdowns, School closures, Economic repression, Political upheaval,
Skyrocketing unemployment, Business closings, Rising prices, Declining mental conditions, Mass depression, and Increasing suicides
How do we come to a point of believing that God really is in control, that He will carry us through this?
We can Praise, Pray, or Meditate
For Christians, praise is worship
Prayer connects us with our creator
Meditation means "To ponder"
Who we are, our strengths & weaknesses,
Our Core beliefs, life's purpose,
Lessons learned,
And our priorities
We end todays episode with one of Krista's original songs,
"I've Got A Joy"
If you would like to hear more of Krista's music, you can find her on YouTube, just search for Krista Lawley.

In Episode # 37 we continue with low cost/no cost prepping activities. This particulat one doesnt cost money, just some time, and can increase your knowledge base exponentially. Here's our recommendations.
Read online articles.
There is a plethora of information on the internet, just sitting there waiting to be perused, and much of it is free. Sure, you have to weed through some poppycock here and there, but there are many trustworthy sites available. Here are some of out favorites.
Our website, of course. www.practicalprepping.info a great place for starting out
prepperwebsite.com a daily compilation of articles from many prepper sites
thesurvivalmom.com a mom who cared enough for her family to start prepping
Prepper.com a site to take you toward sustainability
mdcreekmore.com this guy has skills! He shares them freely.
shtfplan.com - many current event articles as they relate to prepping
theprepared.com a lot of "The best articles"
Join online prepping forums
There is a lot of noise you will need to weed through, and some people don't think it through before answering, like the single mom on a limited budget asking about getting started and was told to buy five acres in a secluded location. Yeah, right. Scroll on, nothing of value.
However, there are some knowledgeable preppers who freely share info. Ask your questions then seek consensus in opinions and you'll usually be ok.
These are good places to glean ideas, take them and customize them to fit your needs.
Facebook, MEWE, Parlor and other platforms have prepper groups, gardening groups, ham radio groups and groups for about any topic. Some are regional groups, some national, and some international.
The persona of the groups can range from warm and friendly to downright rude. Stay out of the drama and just scroll on by where appropriate, but there is good information in some of them.
