Scott Baldwin is currently at Productboard where he works as the Community Lead & Product Evangelist. He's a product management leader and a long-time member of the Vancouver product community with a deep interest in helping others find their opportunity in product management. Prior to Productboard Scott led product teams at Thinkific, Finning Digital, Central 1 Credit Union, Inovera Solutions, and Blue Zone Entertainment and held various roles in user experience.
In this episode, Scott shares his diverse background, including what working in UX has taught him about product management. He explains the different types of communities (users for feedback, community of practice, community for support) and the value (bringing your users closer to you, cocreating with your user base). He talks about the 5 aspects of introducing new technologies (why, collaboration with people, priorities, processes, talking about the change transparently and getting feedback) and how bringing new technology alone doesn't solve an organisation's problems but helps to bring up new conversations.
