In this episode, we are talking with then wonderful Professor Julie Schmidt Hasson. She has spent many years in the classroom and as a school leader and principal. More recently she has been trying to gain a deeper understanding of the ways in which teachers influence our lives. Julie believes that “Growth and transformation happen when people feel safe, seen, and stretched… just as we did in the classrooms of our favourite teachers.” As a qualitative researcher, Julie has interviewed hundreds of people about the teachers they remember. The synthesis of that research became the Chalk and Chances project, which I founded in 2018. In her words, if it wasn’t for her herMr beloved teacher Mrs. Russell “who knows where I would be right now.”
We all have that teacher, the one that changed our lives. Teachers are the unsung heroes who quite often have no ideas of the impact that they have had on their students.
I hope that you enjoy this discussion with Julie and, if you haven’t done so yet, please reach out to that teacher that made a difference in your life and say “thank you.”
