Today I (Joti Brar) spoke with Garland Nixon about imperialism's systematic use of divide and rule tactics to maintain its grip on power and its ability to loot the world.
We discussed how the root of the Kashmir crisis, as with so many other problems on the Indian subcontinent, lies in the British stirring up of communal tensions and the bloody partition of that land, which aimed to keep all India's people permanently poor and exploitable. And how the solution lies in breaking these patterns and building rapprochement and cooperation between India-Pakistan and India-China.
We also discussed the two uses of fascist forces which imperialism turns to as its system loses legitimacy in the eyes of the masses.
First as an ideologically-motivated spearhead for enforcing its flagging domination abroad. This has been a continuous policy of the imperialists and is particularly evident today – as is evidenced by the fascist proxy mercenary forces of Banderite Ukraine, of zionist Israel, and of wahhabist Syria, Sahel and Xinjiang, as well as in the rabid anticommunist proxies of south Korea, Taiwan and Venezuela. All of them bankrolled and directed by Anglo-American imperialism.
Meanwhile on the home front, outright fascism will be the last resort of finance capital in the face of a rising working-class movement for socialism. In the meantime, we have a controlled 'far right' opposition that acts to coral one section of workers back into the camp of social democracy ('Vote Labour to keep the fascists out!') while another section is conned into believing that figures such as Britain's Nigel Farage, France's Marine Le Pen, Italy's Georgia Meloni and Germany's AfD represent some kind of real rebellion against the system.
In fact, these bogeymen are as much servitors of finance capital as are the Labour party social democrats. They would not otherwise be given so much publicity! Their fundamental purpose is to promote a hysterical narrative around immigration that aims to keep the working class divided and weak – and looking to its class enemies for salvation.

Confirming what might have been anticipated about how sincere the Labour party was in its pre-election pledges to bring in a ‘New Deal for Workers’. So much for working-time directives. With the ubiquitous spread of mobile communications, more and more workers are finding that their employers expect that the fact that they can be reached anytime anywhere means that they should be ready to respond to work calls and emails at any time of the day or night, including on days off and holidays. Not only individuals but their families are paying the price, all adding to the steep rise in the numbers suffering severe burnout from overwork in Britain.

Failure to mobilise against job cuts at Grangemouth reveals the fraudulent nature of Unite and SNP leaders. Once again, the vagaries of the world market take precedence over the needs of British working people. Not only is Grangemouth the only oil refinery left in Scotland, meaning that with its closure a skilled workforce and vital function will be lost, but energy prices in Britain could be instantly curtailed by nationalising the whole industry and running it to meet local demand. Instead, all energy production in Britain is carried out as a part of the world energy market. Its product sells for world market prices, even if it is produced on home territory, and its production centres are shuttered if their costs are higher than those in competing countries. Without nationalisation of such key industries and their reorganisation according to a central plan, neither energy or any other kind of sovereignty is possible – and British workers will continue to pay a heavy price.

Today I (Joti Brar) spoke with Garland Nixon about how the Trump regime’s theatre over immigration and tariffs is likely to accelerate rather than hold back the decline of US imperialism.
We talked about the capitalists’ inexorable drive to find the cheapest possible labour-power. This is what drives the export of industries to where labour, land and raw materials are cheaper. And it is also what drives the need for ILLEGAL (ie, hyper-exploitable) immigration.
Florida’s plan to reverse child labour laws is a perfect illustration of this need. The employers have neither the intention nor the ability to pay living wages to US adults, so now they have set their eyes on working-class kids as a cheap source of hyper-exploitable non-unionised labour.
We talked about the education system under conditions of declining imperialism and the difference between a socialist approach to work and education and what is allowed to workers under capitalism.
And we discussed the way that constant immigration hysteria is used to keep the working class divided against itself, allowing the capitalists to maintain themselves in power and force workers to bear the burden of the system’s economic crisis.

And we discussed the need to distance ourselves from the noise and distraction of surface details that make up the news cycle and educate ourselves to see the systemic drives that underpin the policies of all the imperialist governments, which are facing imminent economic catastrophe as a result of the global capitalist system’s worst-ever crisis of overproduction.
