  • Episode 43. [Faith] Is Comparison Keeping You From The Kingdom of God?

    Opening Bible verse: Luke 9:62

When I was in 4th grade I started running track. My dad could often be heard yelling, "Don't Look Back!" as I rounded the final turn.  I was always looking back to see where my competition was instead of facing forward and running my own race.  I lost precious time looking back, therefore, winning my heat, but not the event.

In the opening Bible verse, Jesus talks about just how serious a commitment it is to follow Him.  If you look back, you are not fit for the kingdom of God.

What in your life is causing you to look back or look around at what others are doing?

When you feel the yucky feelings that come with comparison, remember these things:

    1. God loves all of us equally and with a love beyond our human understanding.

    2. He has a plan for each of us.

    3. We all have a cross to bear.

Our crosses may be heavier or lighter than others but it is perfectly weighted for us.  It's just heavy enough to build our muscles so we have the strength to carry out our mission on Earth yet light enough that we can cross the finish line.

  • Episode 41. [Clutter] Easy Method To Organize Back To School Papers

Opening Bible Verse: Luke 4:20 Apparently even Jesus had paper to deal with! Oh the scrolls that seems to inundate us this time of year.  Back to school is like a clean slate.  Fresh crayons and new beginnings! This is the year to get it together. We are going to get organized and stay organized!  Well...let's do our best. In today's episode I share my super easy method for not just back to school papers but my secret to running my home like a tight ship. You will need: 1 3-ring binder with a front and back pocket.  Mine is only 1" thick for a family of 6 plus our dog.  You may need a thicker binder for a larger family. 1 pack of clear page protectors. The box has about 50 so you can do this project with a friend or two to make it even cheaper. Each child will get one or two clear pages to contain all their necessary paperwork. First page for each of my kids contains: Birth certificate Social Security Card Latest physical forms and immunization record Boy Scout Health Forms A, B, C, D. If you are a Scout mom, you know what this is! Bank account number/password/reward card Passport or copy of passport with the original in a safe Baptismal certificate Clearances Work Permit Copy of front and back of insurance card Any other original paperwork that you find yourself needing again and again Second Page for each kid contains: Specifics for that child's homeroom, policies, Zoom links/passwords, class birthday invite list The front pocket of my binder is for temporary storage of: proposals for my home improvement projects Popcorn/fundraising order forms along with the money Permission slips with any checks attached or insurance card copy attached. Any other papers that you will only need for a short period of time and that you want easy access to. Back pocket of binder contains: For my home it is only our long term ski rental agreement. We will need this again in October when we renew our skies for the season. Additional tips for paper clutter: 1. Try to deal with incoming paper ASAP 2. Try to only touch it once.  3. RSVP as soon as invitations arrive and take a photo of the invitation, put the date on the calendar. 4. Make it a game of trying to get rid of each paper that enters your home. 5. Revisit front pocket every few weeks to see if you still need to keep it. 6. If you can quickly find the information online, you can recycle or shred. Don't keep it! Happy Back to school! It's going to be a great year! • Episode 39. [Mindset] Do This One Thing To Move From Foolish To Wise

    Opening Bible Verse: Proverbs 28:26

Just because someone is a successful CEO doesn't mean they also have the ability to give you a phenomenal haircut.  We would never even put those two skills together!  Yet, isn't this exactly what we are doing when we expect to know how to do all the things and do them all well? That's foolish for us to think this way.  In the most important areas of our lives, we were never taught.  Everyday we use money and we eat food yet we are rarely ever taught how to use things in a healthy manner.  How about parenting, marriage, or physical fitness?

So what are we to do?  Seek wise counsel.  You are worth the investment.  You deserve to live your best life. A life of health and wealth.

In today's episode, I hope to inspire you to stop floundering in areas of your life that are so important and to seek wise counsel.

A good coach, counselor or professional should educate, challenge and cheer for you.

    Opening Bible Verse: Luke 12:35-36

  • Episode 36. [Clutter] 5 Minute Declutter With Me. Declutter Jewelry

I know 5 minutes doesn't seem like a lot of time but you will be amazed at what you can get done in just 5 minutes!

As we begin every Saturday declutter podcast, let's set your intention. So whomever or whatever is weighing heavily on your mind today, offer it up as a prayer while you declutter. Turn your work into prayer and grow closer to God every day!

Secondly, set your carrot. In other words, mix the good with the work. So I always listen to a good podcast or a juicy audible book while I clean my house. It gives me something to enjoy while I do something I don't really want to do.

Lastly, set your reward. What will you enjoy when you have decluttered for 5 minutes, wrapped up the bag and placed it in your car or your designated donation zone in your house? Just make sure you are getting these bags out of your house. We don't want to trade clutter for clutter wrapped in a bag!  As you work each time to declutter, get in the habit of getting it out of your house for good!  You can arrange for pick-ups from many charities too! Yes! They will come right to your house and pick up your donations!

Today we declutter jewelry.  Start easy. Start with the stuff that isn't sentimental.  Then as your declutter muscles grow, work on the more sentimental stuff.  In this episode I share with you how I have kept and still enjoy costume jewelry from my Grandmothers. No, I don't wear it, but, I wasn't going to get rid of it either! There is a happy medium!

Have a wonderful week and happy decluttering! XOXO, Gina

  • Episode 35. [Meals] Food Prices Are Soaring! 2 Frugal Meals To Stretch Your Grocery Budget

    Opening Bible Verse: Ecclesiastes 9:7

We are all feeling the pinch at the grocery store right now.  So how can we stretch our budgets and our time between grocery store visits?

That food you have in your house used to be money!  So let's use it!

There is money sitting in your pantry, your fridge, your freezer and in the form of leftovers!

In today's episode I share two meal ideas I threw together this week to avoid going to the grocery store while stretching the budget just a little bit more.

Here are the recipes (roughly) that I made:

    First Night:

Broiled chicken thighs with salt and pepper

    Last bits of frozen veggies

2 Cups of cooked white sticky rice

Heat veggies in large skillet add cold rice and fry with olive oil. Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve chicken over fried rice.

    Second Night:

All the random half filled bags and boxes of pasta

1 15oz can of diced tomatoes

    5 cloves of garlic, minced

    4 Tbls of butter

    2 Tbls of olive oil

    1/2 jar of Kalamata olives

Leftover meat from chicken thighs, diced

Cook all pasta according to package instructions. In large skillet, heat chicken in oil and butter. Add garlic and brown. Add tomatoes and bring to boil.  Add olives at the end. Serve over pasta with a salad!

The other recipe I mentioned was the marinade for the salmon. Here's that recipe:

    1/4 cup real maple syrup

    1/4 Balsamic Vinegar

    2 Tsp of dijon mustard

    Salt and Pepper

Whisk all ingredients together and place in a baking dish with salmon. Marinate in fridge for at least half an hour. Save sauce remaining in baking dish to pour over salmon while it cooks.

I cut salmon into serving sizes and place on baking sheet lined with foil and sprayed with cooking spray. Pour extra marinade over salmon and broil for 3 minutes per side or more depending on your preference.
