In the world of mythology, the phoenix stands as one of the most enduring symbols of resilience and teaches us that true strength is not defined by the absence of hardship, but by the ability to rise after being consumed by it. Imagine, for a moment, hearing the sickening sound of your own flesh being torn open, feeling your head nearly severed, your body stabbed, slashed, and disemboweled. Picture your attackers walking away, convinced that no living being could survive the savagery they’ve inflicted. But here's the twist: they severely underestimated the woman at the center of this story. A woman who, like the phoenix, rose from the ashes of unimaginable brutality, emerging not only alive but more powerful and resilient than ever. This woman—whose journey is marked by pain and horror beyond comprehension—became the embodiment of unbreakable willpower. This is the case of Alison Botha, whose harrowing tale is one of survival, strength, and an indomitable spirit that defied death itself. Please listen with caution.

On April 3, 2011, a cemetery worker in South Africa stumbled upon an outrageously gruesome scene: large quantities of fresh blood and drag marks leading to a pair of blood-soaked jeans, and beneath that, a naked young adult male, butchered, eviscerated, and dismembered, barely recognizable as human. Cold as ice, this young man had been brutally stabbed and skinned; and when his remains were uncovered, they were missing numerous body parts, including his head. This is the absolutely devastating case of Michael Van Eck, who was murdered and flayed by a depraved woman posing as a romantic interest, Chané van Heerden (known as "The Female Ed Gein"), and her disturbed boyfriend, Maartens van der Merwe. Steeped in pseudo-occult practices and sadistic ritualistic behavior, this savage case is regarded as one of the most heinous murders in South African history. Please listen with caution.

We’ve all felt it—the spine-tingling sensation that someone or something is lurking, watching us from the shadows. That an inanimate object, specifically a doll, has somehow come to life, piercing its gaze through the veil of stillness. In the eerie corners of Key West, this creeping dread becomes almost tangible in the presence of Robert the Doll, a stuffed creation with disturbingly lifelike features: a stitched mouth, button nose, and wide, soulless black eyes that seem to follow your every move with a sinister intelligence. Although Robert the Doll may have been intended as a charming toy, anyone who lays eyes on him knows that his haunting expression conceals dark secrets best left undisturbed. Robert is not just a doll; he is a vessel of dark magic, cursed (if you dare to believe), and ready to unleash havoc and despair at any moment. This is the story of the most haunted doll in the world. Happy Halloween!

On February 13, 2024, a man received a call from his grandchildren's school informing him that their mother, Kristina Joksimovic, a former Miss Switzerland finalist, had failed to pick them up. After collecting the children and bringing them back to their home, he searched the house for clues as to his daughter's whereabouts, and found a large black garbage bag in the basement laundry room. Trembling, he peeled back the plastic to make an absolutely gruesome discovery: Kristina’s signature cascade of golden blonde hair, still attached to her severed head. The horrifying sight raised countless questions, most hauntingly: What had happened to his beautiful daughter, and where was the rest of Kristina? The answers would soon reveal themselves in a manner that shocked and horrified the world. Because parts of Kristina’s remains were discovered soaking in a chemical solution, while others, devastatingly, had been pureed in a kitchen blender. This is the shockingly brutal and heartbreaking case of Kristina Joksimovic.

In Part 2 of our two-part coverage of Robert Hansen, also known as the "Butcher Baker," we explore his twisted motives and gruesome methods of killing. Hansen would lure vulnerable women to his remote cabin and engage in a sadistic ritual, which involved hunting them down like defenseless prey in the vast Alaskan wilderness. Often, in a particularly cruel twist, he would release his ensnared victims just to chase them through the woods with a rifle, savoring the hunt and inflicting maximum psychological torment. Hansen's horrific legacy left at least 17 innocent victims buried beneath the cold Alaskan earth, their tragic fates sealed by his sick ambition.

Robert Hansen, infamously known as the "Butcher Baker," terrorized Alaska in the 1970s and '80s and embodied the terrifying essence of a methodical predator stalking vulnerable prey. In Part 1 of our two-part coverage of Alaska's most prolific serial killer, we delve into Hansen's troubled upbringing and the disturbing behaviors that ultimately led to the deaths of countless innocent women. He was a deeply twisted individual who believed he had the right to determine a woman's worth and, even more horrifically, to violently eliminate any woman he deemed "indecent" or unworthy of existence. Our exploration of Robert Hansen in Part 1 reveals the complexities of his twisted psyche and the societal factors that may have contributed to his inexcusable, heinous actions.

In this episode, we are joined by special guest, comic and podcaster, Joanne McNally.
In an unsettling defiance of nature, the young perpetrators behind the horrific death of 14-year-old Ana Kriegel in Ireland in 2018 committed a crime so brutal that it pierced through society's veneer of trust and altered perceptions of youth and innocence. Ana's killers, referred to as Boy A and Boy B, were just 13 years old at the time of the offense, making them the youngest convicted killers in the Republic of Ireland. Their trial exposed the brutal and premeditated nature of their atrocious crime, revealing deep-seated issues surrounding youth violence and the mental health of young offenders. The case garnered intense media scrutiny, leaving the world grappling with a torrent of heartbreaking questions and few, if any, answers.

Driven by a twisted need to possess her married lover, Koshizô Ishida forever, a woman named Sada Abe strangled him, castrated him, and carried his severed genitals in her kimono—ensuring, in her mind, that he would remain hers for all eternity. Amidst the modern neon glow and ancient temples of 1936 Tokyo, Sada's life was sadly shaped by trauma, longing, repression, and erotic obsession. After training as a low-level geisha and meeting Koshizô, Sada became deeply infatuated, and their scandalous relationship blurred the lines between love and obsession until it spiraled into a dangerous fixation - one that drove Sada to committ a horrific act of violence in an effort to possess him forever.

At 3:26 PM on Thursday, December 16, 2004, Becky Harper made a gruesome discovery that no parent should ever have to see: her 23-year-old daughter, Bobbi Jo Stinnett, lying dead in a pool of blood on the floor of her Missouri home. The scene was a vision of gruesome chaos, and Becky struggled to comprehend the horror before her. As she continued to absorb all the horrific details, her breath caught in her throat as she realized that Bobbi Jo’s abdomen had been violently ripped open. And, heartbreakingly, the baby she had been carrying for nearly eight months was gone. All that remained was a severed umbilical cord. This is the devastating case of the brutal murder of Bobbi Jo Stinnett and the shocking abduction of her unborn daughter, Victoria Jo. It is also the chilling story of Lisa Montgomery, the deeply disturbed perpetrator who became the first woman to be executed by the federal government since 1953. The details of this episode are extremely graphic in nature - listener discretion is advised.
