  • 165. Jo Rawbone: Who Says Introverts Don’t Have Anything to Say?

In this episode, we're joined by Jo Rawbone. Jo discovered she was an introvert when she completed a Myers Briggs questionnaire in 1989. She’d always known that she was different from a lot of her peers, friends and family and now she knew why; she wasn’t weird, she was wired differently. Whilst is knowledge enhanced her self-awareness, it didn’t give her the tools to manage being an introvert in a world that is largely biased towards extroverts.

Over more than 3 decades working as a trainer and consultant with thousands of international clients, Jo saw daily just how problematic this bias can be within organisations: undermining employee engagement, retention and productivity as well as impairing the physical and mental health and well-being of employees.

Thus began a mission: to champion the cause of introverts and promote positive action to address the ‘extraversion bias’. A mission that recently took her to the TEDx stage.

Jo founded Flourishing Introverts to shift this extraversion bias in business by using a simple but robust approach, and to enable individuals to recognise their natural strengths so they can fulfil their potential without pretending to be something they are not. This starts with enabling introverts to identify and own their strengths, something Jo does in her group coaching programmes and 1:1 with clients.

With her clear purpose and unshakable passion, Jo works with companies and organisations to help them recognise and encourage the contribution introverts can make to their business. This is Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in action.

    In this episode, we explore:

    • introversion
    • shifting extroversion bias

                    • 161. Compassion and Allowing Yourself to Experience Life

In this solo episode, Hannah shares some thoughts on the importance of allowing ourselves to experience life to the full. Sometimes we need to give ourselves permission to do the things we love, to create the time for things that bring us joy. And to be in them, in the moment, in our body, and not stuck in our heads.

Hannah also shares a story about showing more compassion towards her partner and the impact this had. Sometimes we can forget (for some reason!) to show compassion to those who are closest to us, holding them to a higher standard than other people. What happens when we consciously try to be more compassionate towards them?

Jeff empowers people to heal their mind-body troubles and take better care of themselves -- because if you don't care for your health, no one else will do it for you. Jeff's holistic background in Mind and Brain Education from Harvard University and Buddhist Studies from The University of Hong Kong provides a way towards lasting wellbeing that feels as good as it looks.

Jeff offers private coaching to integrate the deep inner work of personal transformation in conjunction with developing a strong body, clear mind, and healthy routines to keep you on track. Jeff teaches mindfulness and mediation at Harvard University and is the lead teacher for the Student-Athlete Mindfulness project at Tufts University.
